Off the back of another thread I realised am ridiculously organised and my house is always tidy, always ready for visitors etc didn’t realise how tidy I was until I started commenting on and reading the other thread. So just a fun, or nosy AMA.
maybe there’s nothing to ask 🤣 thought it might be interesting though…

@Morphinesucks Why do you have a dryer that you never use?

Because I can’t reach up to put the clothes in it and turn it on. (I’m disabled and it’s over the washing machine) and my partner is blind (awaiting surgery for rapid onset cataracts) and he can’t see what he’s doing to set it going.

the house is being renovated - the plan for the utility room is that it’ll be beside the washing machine.

Do you have the type of job whereby when your finish time arrives you can literally stop "down tools" and go home or do you have to work over until things are complete?

Do you have the type of job whereby once you have finished and come home, that's it, you are done for the day? Or do you have e mails, online work etc which has to be done out of hours?

Are your children of the age whereby they go to bed and stay there rather than coming out several times. Do you still have to help with bathing and toilet training etc.

I suspect that your life is hugely different to mine. But congratulations on the tidy home. Mine looks like a literal tip.

Yep, unless I am in the day of a deadline I can close the laptop and I work from home 2-3 days a week. My workplace is only 15 minute drive away so my commute is minimal. My eldest DC walks to school, and I dropped my youngest on the way to work. I will put my youngest to bed, but it’s more of a formality at this stage, telling him to get his pyjamas on, tucking him in and having a little chat about the day or sometimes we do a word search together. Then I’ll pop into my eldest and make sure ready for the morning. She likes to put her hair in the sock curls and she listens to music while she’s doing that and then gets herself to bed so I’ll say night night to her as she’s doing that.

@TaupeMember you are the one who is misinterpreting what is being said.

If you dont know anyone without a dryer, then it says alot about circles you move in,

There you go again...

sundayfundayclub · 30/08/2025 14:12

@Morphinesucks but why are you telling the OP she doesn't need one?

Kitchenbattle · 30/08/2025 14:13

Butterflyarms · 30/08/2025 12:03

In that case I am impressed and jealous. I feel I spend all my time cleaning, to the detriment of spending time with children etc, and the house is still a tip 😭

Do you think it makes a difference that everyone is all in together? Or is it the lack of junk and random sentimental possessions? What's the biggest thing?

Also, where do you hang damp towels and wash cloths? Mine are over a door to air...

Damp towels go on the towel rails in bathroom, previous house they went on a radiator. Sometimes I’ll pop them on the line outside too.

Sorry if its made you upset.

No I am just confused why you would come on to a housekeeping AMA thread to tell the OP having a dryer is a luxury & she didn't add a disclaimer. 🤷🏻‍♀️

sundayfundayclub · 30/08/2025 14:12

@Morphinesucks but why are you telling the OP she doesn't need one?

No one needs a drier. Not even my dd.

the op is fortunate to have a large house with space to store things, the money to pay for appliances to make her life easier and she doesn’t have the environmental awareness of some, who would baulk at using wipes.

it doesn’t seem like there’s much of an ama beyond that. And the comment from one poster (not the op) that untidy people were just lazy upset me.

anyway I hope everyone has a lovely rest of their day.

Catsandcwtches · 30/08/2025 14:17

I’m one of those people without a dryer, as there’s no room for one. Small house, two kids. I get why people are saying do washing once a week, but I couldn’t get it all dried. There would be no space to hang everything up. So heated rail dryer and daily washing it is, works for me.

Nothankyov · 30/08/2025 14:17

@Kitchenbattle no offence but there is nothing to ask in my view. Some people make their house their priority and others don’t. My house is always clean and organised as well it’s not impossible. Depends on what you want to make a priority. Neither approach is wrong as long as you’re happy with it.

Kitchenbattle · 30/08/2025 11:38

Yes I have similar and then a smaller little open container for boxes of paracetamol etc

ha ha... I've put mine in see through stackable microwave cartons. I've labelled them as I got tired of being asked for everything all the time. Its in one of the smaller cupboards that didn't really fit anything else. They STILL can't put them back in the right box, put the lids on or put them back in the cupboard. I have to do it every day or it would be "Where are the plasters?" If I complain, I get eye rolls or even "Well you never put them away!. (who organised and labelled them in the first place!) - one of life's small frustrations I guess.

I have found that sticking on a podcast or good audio book helps me to get through the boring stuff more quickly.

I am in awe of your organisation OP.. it must lower stress levels..

sundayfundayclub · 30/08/2025 14:18

@Morphinesucks so you are arguing that the OP is environmentally irresponsible because she has a dryer & no one needs one.
You do have one but aren't using it until your renovations are finished & you will then use it & it would be helpful if your dd had one.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

I use a big plastic box for medications/vitamins. I don't have a cabinet or drawer available. The only way I've found so far to group them is with see-through plastic bags, e.g. one for paracetamol, one for decongestants. Can you help me find a better way?

@Gwenhwyfar this is my set up for the medical cupboard. Sounds similar to yours. Most used things in the basket at the front. It’s all in a top cupboard. Hope this helps. ☺️

I was interested in this thread because I sometimes feel like things are never straight. Its miles better than it was as we gradually worked on the place, but I am interested to see how other people manage it, or fit it in around everyone else.

Why are you so angry?

I won't respond to you any more as you're either having a bad day or just determined to twist what people are saying to get some arguments going.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 not to be rude but that made me laugh. I wish that would do for me and him. I would need (and am planning) two matching cabinets that size or bigger if I can in our en-suite (planned also) to hold our drugs between the two of us. And we also have a medication fridge. Which is currently in the bedroom.

@Morphinesucks I can see why you think I have no environmental awareness but I want you to know that I actually do. Yes, I use wipes. I use them because it makes my life a little bit easier. Lots of people take shortcuts to make their life a little bit easier and that’s one of mine…but in terms of my environmental awareness. I try my best. I have often picked up letter on the beach and filled up bags. I have done it through work games. I recycle. And I’m very particular about what goes in each bin. I bring my plastic bottles back. I don’t buy excess crap. I bring my glass bottles to the bottle bank. Etc etc… someone asked why I can’t use a microfibre cloth? Because they end up stinking and I’m not leaving it sitting in a basket to stink all week until I do my washing on Saturday. Nobody is perfect, but I try my best.

I'm definitely not admitting how many towels I was a week!! 😱😂

Morphinesucks · 30/08/2025 14:25

I mean I’m laughing at myself. Not you op. We have plastic boxes for drugs for each of us. They’re currently all in matching large see through tubs in the upstairs hall. With a week’s worth sorted out and put in a box below the sink in the bathroom. We sort out a weeks worth of drugs for each of us on a Sunday night. Well. I do. Coz he can’t bloody see to do it.

Would a similar set up in your beside tables work? So they are all next to the fridge? My friend has similar as she’s diabetic, I understand it can take up a lot of space. ❤️

Morphinesucks · 30/08/2025 14:03

I know loads of people. I consider myself fortunate to have one.

plenty of people don’t have a drier. My DD doesn’t. She lives in a one bedroom apartment and there isn’t room for a drier.

my partner is going to go down once he’s had his surgery and re-jig her bathroom to fit a drier over where she has her washing machine (yes, in her bathroom) but she currently doesn’t have one.

for many years as a single parent to three kids living in a small house with no utility room or garage I didn’t have one either.

I wasn’t being rude. I didn’t think I’d been clear. And to be honest, I wouldn’t use wipes for cleaning because of the environmental impact - especially if you’ve room to store things, what would be the big deal with a microfibre cloth and a spray cleaner?

Have you looked at washer dryers? We have one where the dryer condenses into the same place as the washer water drains into. We only use it for bedding and towels in the winter - everything else on airers - but it works pretty well and doesn’t take up any extra space

sundayfundayclub · 30/08/2025 14:26

@LoafofSellotape don't you know towels are a luxury! 😆

That’s absolutely fine - that people are interested. I have always kept my house super clean and everything is in its place - it’s hard work. But I think it’s highly dependent on people’s circumstances that’s all. I don’t think people that have their house less tidy than mine are lazy or dirty - just different priorities. I also dont think it’s wrong if they are happy with it. We all live differently and that’s just the way it’s meant to me.

The plan once we do the en suite is to have the fridge in there. But thank you. We use the bedside tables for pants and socks just now as the house is being renovated so I’d have to put them somewhere else. And there’s nowhere else for them to go. Unless it’s the plastic tubs in the hall 🤣🤣🤣

Im sure you're a very organised and tidy family, but...

You have a big house, multiple bathrooms, four of you...

I call bs.

No way do you put a wash on every saturday and thats that all done for the week, bedding and towels included 😂

Your 10 year old cleans their own bathroom? To a high standard?

Im sure youre more organised than most but there's defo some porkies going on here!

I literally said he will keep it clean and I will check on it…I have no need to lie. He keeps his cleaner than his 12 year old sister tbf 🤣
