Off the back of another thread I realised am ridiculously organised and my house is always tidy, always ready for visitors etc didn’t realise how tidy I was until I started commenting on and reading the other thread. So just a fun, or nosy AMA.
maybe there’s nothing to ask 🤣 thought it might be interesting though…

Ah, so you’re out of the house and asleep most of the time. Are your kids also?

Well my kids are school age so home at the same kind of times yeah.

Is your partner also tidy and organised

coravantexel · 30/08/2025 07:35

How often do you declutter, or is that something you do as you go along? Do you have a system for doing this? My house is clean but we have way too much stuff and it’s a constant battle.

Are your family cooperative or do you have to clean up after them a lot?

Kitchenbattle · 30/08/2025 07:36

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 30/08/2025 07:16

How many kids do you have and what ages? How much do you get them to do?

They are 12 and 10. They are in charge of keeping their rooms and bathrooms tidy. (But I will still glance my eyes over DS10 bathroom because well…he’s 10.
they put all dishes in the sink or dishwasher when finished.
mo eating anywhere except the kitchen table. I will make allowance ls when they have a few friends to sleep over but they are in charge of tidying.

@NoRomeoPMK = placemarking

Yes- i want to be on the thread and started a post but realised I had nothing to say really. So placemarked instead. :)

3teens2cats · 30/08/2025 07:37

Do you pick up after your partner and kids? Or do they have the same good habits?

coravantexel · 30/08/2025 07:38

@JustStopItNorathere is a bookmark feature you can use to do this now, if you click on the three dots it will give you the option. You can “watch” the thread too if you click on the three dots in the original post Smile

My house is always clean and tidy too. It takes hardly any time to clean.
Even as a child I would always put things away rather than dumping stuff on a table.

I know where every document or item is in the house. My Son was n law always says I should be in project management as I'm organised and a problem solver. he often asks for my advice on house projects.

It doesn't make me an oddball it's just the way I am. Everyone has a quirk/skill that to others is genius/freaky.

My husband's is horribly disorganised, my daughter jokes that without me my husband would have to get PTS.

I declutter as I go a lot. Like when they grow out of clothing I have a bag in the boot of the car for charity that the clothing will go in an and I drop it when it’s full. I don’t but unnecessary items to be honest. Although my clothing would be an exception on that, I have several black T-shirts for example, but they all
get used and I have ample space so it’s ok.

Never after my partner, the odd time after my kids, but not a lot anymore.

Are you really thin? One of those people who never sits down and burns energy always being busy?

Id like to be one of those people!

🤣🤣 I wish I was thinner, I’m 5’3 and I weigh 9.5 stone, I’m a solid size 10.

Do you have a large house and/or lots of storage and/or few possessions?

There always seems to be so much stuff everywhere in our house: toys, artwork, equipment, paperwork, cables... At least the books have shelving, they're the one thing that reliably gets put away by everyone 😂

TranceNation · 30/08/2025 07:45

Was your mum the same with tidiness and cleaning when you were growing up?

I think we must have different kinds of households. Laundry isn't just a pop a load or two in on Saturday morning job here, it's a load a day or system meltdown.

I have 2 loads today, my washer is 10kg. Right now it has my dds school shirts (3 from this week) other white undies etc a light pink hoody, a couple of my white t’s and about 4 towels and some tea towels.

next load is darks, so pretty much everything else.
I actually did a load on weds as I was wfh..and my ds had gone for a sea swim on Tuesday night so I was washing his towel, my dd’s sports gear, and ds’s bedding. I loath put on a tiny amount so I chose to change his bed as he had darker beddding.

See I'm a 'clean and tidy as you go' kind
of person, but dh is a 'leave it and do it in one big session' kind of person. It's how his mum is, so how he was brought up to do things. I have spent the last 30 years telling myself, it's not wrong, just a different approach. Although to be fair he is far more like me now.

But when do you do bedding usually, you MUST do more than 2 loads a week?

Even a 10kg washer won't fit 3 sets of bedding.

Why does your daughter only wear 3 shirts a week at school and not 5?

Surely that's because it's they've only just gone back and it's a part-week? Not exactly sinister.

THISnewbeginning · 30/08/2025 07:52

Do you / your dc wear clothing a few times before washing?

This was exactly what I was thinking! I've recently managed to get into a bit of a routine of doing it daily and it's making a big difference but if I miss a day then backlog starts to become unmanageable...

They have their own bathrooms? How big is your house?

I often think my house would at least look tidier if it was a bit bigger as the clutter would be more spread out!

3teens2cats · 30/08/2025 07:54

I was saying to dh the other day I can't understand why we create so much washing. There is only dh and I and 18 year old ds at home now. Thing is adult size clothes take up more space in the machine! Plus all beds are now doubles or king size. Adults get through more towels. Plus ds work clothes do get filthy so can't be reworn. I need to wash everyday to keep remotely on top of it, plus several extra loads at the weekend. It felt like much less when I had little boys.

Reanimated · 30/08/2025 07:56

Do you restrict what is happening around the house to prioritise keeping it tidy? So say, would you discourage some arts and crafts for something easier to pack away or, choose meals with less prep work to keep the kitchen tidier?

She was at school 4 days this week, the one from Thursday was perfectly clean, she has a half day on Friday’s, she showers every morning.

bedding I do one bed a week so next week is dd, the week after is my bed.
