Have you got any “found family” - people who have become so close they feel like the family you never had?

mnahmnah · 13/08/2025 20:50

Have you always had a lack of family, or have you sadly lost everyone already?

And do you mean not even aunts, uncles, cousins etc?

FancyNewt · 13/08/2025 20:51

Do friends fill the gap?

Ok a full and more comprehensive answer to your question is yes, I do get lonely.

However I was MUCH more lonely 20 years ago when DID have family members. The reason is I was going through a much more difficult time psychologically 20 years ago than now

Me too.
Thank goodness for friends and my cat.
It’s hard never being anybody’s priority but on the upside I can please myself.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 13/08/2025 20:52

Do you mean blood relatives?
How have you got to that point? EG losing people earlier than expected, being an only child of only child etc
Are you ok with it?

RollerSkateLikePeggy · 13/08/2025 20:52

Are you worried about the future, with no one to help you out when you get older?

Who will you leave your money to ( if any left!)

Do you feel vulnerable? Are you financially covered? Do you own your own home/did you inherit much? Is your mortgage paid? What do you do for birthdays, Christmas etc?

Yes I feel vulnerable

yes I’m financially covered

I don’t own my own home

I inherited a lot

haven’t got a mortgage

Sorry to hear that youre feeling vulnerable. What would help you feel better? Would your found family step up a bit more for xmas/birthdays if they knew how you felt, or are you ok with not doing much for those times?

If its ok with you, id like to ask more questions...

Whereabouts in the UK are you based? Did you inherit enough to buy a small place for yourself, or did you inherit any property? Or is your inheritance enough to cover rent for the rest of your life? What do you do for work?

I’m based in the west midlands

yes my inheritance is enough to cover rent for the rest of my life

I don’t work at the moment partly due to having to deal with my fathers death and his estate and things that have arisen out of the latter admin tasks etc

im not bothered about Xmas/birthdays

Are you into travelling? Once your father's estate has been dealt with, would you spend the rest of your days exploring the world?

Is there anything about not having family that is freeing?

(Weird question I know, but for context I have a toxic family dynamic, so that's where I'm coming from).

mcmooberry · 13/08/2025 21:13

Do you have or would you like a partner? 52 is still young, your best years could easily be ahead of you.

Kendodd · 13/08/2025 21:22

What do you put for next of kin/emergency contact on forms?
Do you have a will?
Do you have a best friend?
Or any pets?
