My child was in a S Club Juniors, ask me anything

In 2001, my child auditioned for a CBBC show called ‘S Club Search’ and got a place in a child pop group who initially were meant to support S Club 7 on a one time support gig basis. This band was called S Club Juniors, later known as S Club 8.

The band ended up taking off and we basically had to sign or children away to Simon Fuller’s management to release a single. The kids were given tutors and chaperones, and spent most of their time in hotels (the ones London based stayed either their parents) or on the road. After that, they went on tour and I only saw my child once every couple of months. It was brutal but I knew that’s what they wanted to do.

they released two albums and the second one didn’t do that well, Simon Fuller tried them on a TV show called I Dream, however that also tanked. My child will admit that themselves. They all got dropped when aged 14-17. He said they had grown out of their roles a bit.

Now they are in their late thirties and trying to get back into the entertainment industry fully but it’s difficult. They’ve never quite got over their time in the band. They released music but it never really went anywhere. They would never say so, but it doesn’t help them that two of their fellow band members went on to become big stars, both were in a chart topping girl band and now are TV presenters.

their band (minus the two still-successful members) were meant to reunite for a TV show a long while ago, but for various reasons it didn’t happen. When S Club reunited, S Club juniors didn’t get asked to reunite as there was ‘no call’ for it and only a few were up for reuniting. (My child, and another boy and girl member)

they are still acquaintances with S club 7 and went to Paul Cattermoles funeral.

I know my (now adult) child doesn’t regret the choices they made as a child, but feels sad as an adult.

I’m confused as to who you have messaged, the fb person and the ig person are the same person and not a parent.

no one started a pile on though, I just said I was gutted it wasn’t true and that they’d also doxxed themselves, at which point they deleted their ig and mumsnet account.

So weird.

I've reported the posters/ thread, as I think it's wholly unfair that enough details have been linked so that someone who shouldn't have them, is now stalking people who have nothing to do with the thread on social media. People who have probably never been in a pop group, who simply have the same surname. That's really stalker behaviour, you need a better hobby.

I’ve been reading this thread now and again because it’s been quite interesting. It did seem a bit strange though.

I think it was very obviously fake. The big clue is that the person scarpered the minute they were found out.

I wouldn't bother the ex band members with it. No one is at threat and even if it was a family member, nothing was revealed that you wouldn't have otherwise read in interviews.

If only the OP would come back and just confirm it’s real and that they used somebody else’s instagram to send a link then everybody could enjoy it knowing it’s real! I guess we’ll never know unless proof is given. Shame really. They only people who could confirm it are the band really and it seems people don’t want to reach out to them even though I really don’t think it’d be that bothering to drop 1 a message or comment somewhere they’re just normal people. I would but I don’t even use social media enough for my profiles to look real so doubt they’d answer me

OP has deleted their mumsnet account haven't they? A reason why it was almost certainly fake.

I doubt they would respond to any message really because it sounds so weird. I'd just leave them be.

If everything in this is believable to you (and I didn't see anything that screamed fake) then enjoy it regardless.

Have a little think about why it is inappropriate to message people who were in a band that ended 20 years ago, who now have very different lives, who apparently/ probably aren't in contact with each other, to contact them to say hey, we were really enjoying all this gossip about your teenage years 20 years ago, can you just verify whether it's true? It's not a very nice thing to do really, is it? As you said, they're people too.

I don’t see it as gossip I see it as answering those who were fans at the times curious questions. I don’t think stuff like how did they achieve this dance move or what music they like is gossip? Why are you making out that they’re huge A list celebs who can’t have a basic interaction online. I’d just say are you aware of this thread and have you given consent for it to be in place? Everybody is mostly an adult on this thread? It’d just be nice to know the nostalgic thread we’ve had is real

They don't owe fans any answers though and A listers or not, I do think it is weird to ask them about it.

I really enjoyed the band when I was young but it was 20+ years ago, we've all grown up and they have moved on from it.

I'd just let it go and accept that it very likely wasn't real.

There is absolutely gossip on here- who fancied who at the time, feelings about how some of the band have been more successful than others, snippets about cameras trying to get up skirt on the underage girls and camera angles they don't like, how their parents got upset because some people had more lines than others.

I'm not saying don't do it because they are celebrities, I'm saying don't do it because it's crossing so many personal boundaries of these people, and because the only reason you want to do it is to confirm it's not bullshit- which really, honestly, makes no difference to your life if it's not. This is a band that was around 20 years ago, it really won't affect your life whether the fact someone said about which hotel it was or whatever is a lie or truth.

I’m not actually interested enough in whether it’s real or not to bother emailing them about it. If it makes you happy to think that it’s genuine then if I were you I’d just walk away from the thread yourself it’s real! None of the details given were particularly exciting, and I don’t think any info was given that probably isn’t already in the public domain from interviews etc.

If they wanted an interaction about it online, I'm fairly certain they can/ could organise it. An Instagram live or a message to a fan page would have it set up in no time.
