As title! I’d love to be earning £500,000 or £870,001 but that’s life!

Oh God. Take my advice . WHatever you do don't buy a pony!!! I have one ( stupid citywoman moves to country , "I've always wanted a pony") . Country people laugh and sell you one for an extortinate price. You spend the next few years trying to catch the damn thing. They are evil incarnate. Buy a horse . They are lovely ( sorry OT)
Enjoy what sounds like a lovely life with your DD.
The cat though, once they start missing the litter box, things go downhill from there. Personally I think they do it on purpose just to prove what arrogant sods they are. Lock the catflap. It's the only way!!

🤣I had a pony when I was growing up. We lived in a council house with no money but my accentric mother ‘bought’ her off some travellers😱 then kept her in a nearby field! But had to keep moving her because the council kept coming round.

My cat gives nothing back. She really doesn’t🤣 she just causes more work. She won’t go through the flap, instead just cries to be let in!

The dog isn't even trying. He's disrespectful, abusive and leaving you got carry the full mental load singlehandedly. He could be a rescue dog, drug unit, cadaver dog, guard dog, entering crufts competitions or at very least a tok tok or instragram dog. There's huge demand for dogpics. Time for action or an ultimatum.

You need to get your ducks in a row, take a copy of his dog license while he's out of the house. Photocopy it and keep it in a safe place. Maybe consider getting a tracker for his collar to see who he's been sniffing around. Make him sleep outside.

It doesn't matter if you are stoney broke, every solicitor, easily found online, will give you a free consultation. If you get a free consultation off every practice, it's the equivalent for full legal representation, just take notes and represent yourself.

You need to do this before you become his full time carer in his old age.

🤣🤣

I did have a free half hour but then he was nice to me for a day so we’ve decided to see how it goes. At my age, I’m worried I won’t meet another dog. Or if I do, he could be worse than this one.

No I can’t! I am a single parent with no family! If I don’t take her to school, she won’t get there! She’s 7!

In an old job a manager suggested i drop my kid at the school gate and someone would surely see her in when the gate opened. Like yeah no worries i will drop my 4 year old at the school gate at 8.15am when no one is there, to wait 35 min by herself, cant you do that OP ? 😂 im kidding.

And if OP is earning 13k doesnt that mean she will be paying tax assuming on a 1257 tax code.

StarDolphins · 23/03/2024 08:50

marmaduke12 · 23/03/2024 08:28

Geez OP. Get her to walk down the median strip of the main road, surely that's quick. So lazy! She could pick up the shopping on the way home with her busking money.

🤣 Kids of today don’t know they’re born being picked up from school!

I might just get her to quit school & get a job. A window round would be perfect for her. She cleans my windows really well for a £1 - uses £2 worth of glass cleaner, but still.

Why aren't you claiming universal credit, op?

InTheUpsideDownToday · 23/03/2024 08:51

BrightHorizons24 · 23/03/2024 06:02

I think the OP's post is misleading because it doesn't state until further in to the thread that she has NO MORTGAGE and NO RENT to pay.
This is a bit mad - yet another thread about someone privileged.
I earn 3 x your salary in a professional career, slog my guts out for it, paid 37.5hrs a week but work 47.5 hrs a week with daily unpaid overtime which is expected in my job, and I have a mortgage to pay. Reading your breakdown of finances I think you are better off financially than I am.
You are incredibly vague about how you found yourself in the EXTREMELY PRIVILEGED position of having paid your mortgage off at such a young age. Saying ' I overpaid my mortgage and made a little bit from selling my 1st home, then made a little bit more from selling my 2nd home' is bollocks. You can't overpay your mortgage by that much each month that you end up mortgage free by your age - there is a cap on how much you are allowed to overpay each month. And you don't profit enough from 2 home sales to totally pay off your mortgage by this stage in your life.
There's BS going on.
Your income, given that you have no mortgage or rent to pay, is the equivalent of a much higher earner.
You are in, yet another, privileged position.
So don't bother being all sarcastic about other threads when you yourself are in a privileged position.
I'll be paying my mortgage off until I'm 68. It's the only way I could afford to buy a teeny tiny semi with box rooms and I earn 3 x what you do and work way more hours.
Lucky you to have no mortgage/rent which means you can have a terrific quality of life and an amazing work/life balance by only needing to work 20 hours a week.

Edited

I'm a single parent too with no mortgage now. Over the years I've overpaid when interest rates were cheap and been frugal with money, no fancy holidays, expensive hobbies, old car, not going out for meals a lot. Buy clothes and home ware stuff from charity shops or Vinted now.
I've just prioritised being mortgage free and secure.

Why did you put a wink in the title ? Is it code ?

🤣 just chuck ‘em through the gate, not our problem!

I do pay a bit of tax, I’m sure it’s about £20per month.

This is exactly what I’ve done!

I LOVE Vinted, everything comes from there bar underwear! all my DD’s clothes & shoes are from here too. I am also very lucky as she’s slightly smaller than my friends girls so I get hand me downs!

Yes Vinted is fab isn't it I sell as well as buy so make a bit of extra money that way.

I don't even look in normal clothes shops any more. I buy stuff in a bigger size sometimes and just alter it using my sewing machine.

Peak District is lovely ☺️

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 23/03/2024 09:02

So delighted with this thread, fair cheered me up! Not withstanding the drain the rest of your household is on your resources, it's made me more confident about taking early retirement (due to ill health) as my income will be roughly £1k a month. I knew this was enough to live on - house paid for. May have to consider paper rounds for ddogs as a but of pin money!

Thank you, I do love it here😃

Amazing isn’t, I’ve just recently started selling. Didn’t go great though as someone bought most of my stuff as a bundle & somehow it had 50% off🤣 oh well!

I don’t but in normal shops now either! I love it!

Is it that you won't claim, or just don't think you will be entitled? Have you done a calculation?
Seriously, you need to check.

Get them started asap as they soon get used to doing absolutely nothing apart from lounging on the sofa🤣

Its doable I think. Yes you can’t get a new conservatory or the latest car or phone but it’s all fine.

When I want to treat myself, like last month I bought Doc sandals (New from Vinted) I just cut down my weekly food shop bill for the month. Lots of jackets/tuna salad etc.

I hope you enjoy your retirement.

@BrightHorizons24 you cant compare apples and oranges.

You have no idea in which oart if the country the OP is living. I suspect you are somewhere ‘down south’ where prices are higher.

Fwiw where I live you can get a 2~3 bed house for £150k
