My daughter agrees with me that transgender women have no place in women's sports and in safe spaces. Public toilets are a difficulty because she now looks female and would cause discomfort for others in a male toilet. Generally she tries her utmost to avoid using them

This is good. Who would it cause discomfort for if he uses the men's toilet?

YouWontHearTheLastOfIt · 13/11/2023 14:04

How old is your son ?

Deadringer · 13/11/2023 14:04

It must be very difficult for you op. Objectively, would your child pass as female?

TerfTalking · 13/11/2023 14:04

Do they come into the women’s toilets and/or changing rooms with you?

Do You now or have you ever suspected your child is gay or are they on the autism spectrum?

ahhh, answered above, thank you. very sad your child feels this is the answer to their feeling different.

EvelynTent · 13/11/2023 14:05

I also worried that she might be pinning her hopes on the transition to become what she saw as a 'better person'. I discussed these types of issues with her but she was determined and is much happier

Op I'm so sorry you are getting such awful responses about what must be an incredibly difficult thing for you to deal. I commend you for having the emotionally strength to love your child unconditionally through this.

arethereanyleftatall · 13/11/2023 14:06

Do you honestly believe he is a she?

EvelynTent · 13/11/2023 14:07

I do worry about the health implications of cross sex hormones- but I have to acknowledge that her mental health is far better since she's started treatment and I suppose that has to be weighed alongside her physical well-being

Have you encouraged your son to get the psychological support he needs to understand that he is not and can never be a woman?

Do you know that being autistic he was always vulnerable to social contagion and that you are perpetuating his psychological damage by going along with this?

Deadringer · 13/11/2023 14:08

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 13/11/2023 14:04

Just offering some support here as mumsnet is very anti trans, It must be very hard for you to procesd

What does anti trans mean? Does it mean hating people who identity as trans? Or does it mean not believing that people can change sex? Genuinely hoping for an answer.

EvelynTent · 13/11/2023 14:08

Do I believe she is a she? Difficult question- I don't believe she is female but I know she feels like 'she' so I respect that. I've concluded that respecting this is basic courtesy

Is he an AGP?
How would you feel if he was?

Because she's a great parent and not a bigot

TerfTalking · 13/11/2023 14:10

Another couple of questions, what does the child’s father think of all this?

do you think your child would have said they were a girl had they been this age ten years ago?

EvelynTent · 13/11/2023 14:10

I've no idea about AGP. There wouldn't e much I could do about it so I'd just have to love and accept my child as they are

* ...she now looks female and would cause discomfort for others in a male toilet.*

And what about the discomfort, and worse, caused to others by using a female toilet?

Does he look female?
How, in what way?
Is it a dress and lipstick?

EvelynTent · 13/11/2023 14:13

Her father has the same attitude as me pretty much. Would she have been the same 10 years ago? I don't know. She says she always felt something was wrong but it only came into focus at puberty when she wanted to be a girl and then eventually heard about other transgender people. She didn't accept it for some time and waited until 18 to tell me.

Do you think/hope he'll grow out of it?

(I am using he because that is what I believe he is, as I believe sex is immutable, which is a protected belief and I believe allowing people to choose pronouns is harmful to women and children, and thus I won't be a part of it).

EvelynTent · 13/11/2023 14:14

I don't think she would cause discomfort in a women's toilet as people assume she's female. As I say she tries not to use them

What does identifying as a woman in gender terms mean for your child?

This is hate speech and I have reported it.

You have no idea how your son is making women feel, it is highly unlikely that any one assumes a male is a female because so few trans women pass.
