Hello, I'm a TRA - ask me anything

AlphaTransWoman · 14/10/2023 22:25

Good evening,

I'm a transgender rights advocate. I say "advocate" rather than "activist" because I believe in constructive debate and consensus building rather than the hostile, shouty kind of activism that gets us nowhere.

I am here because I am genuinely interested in seeing if there is some kind of compromise that can be reached between pro trans and gender critical views. Obviously this is difficult because we may disagree about something pretty fundamental. I feel passionately that trans women are women (at least in the psychological and social sense), so there's an obvious divide if you do not.

The question is, can we find ways to co-exist and find an acceptable way forward on some of the difficult issues that arise around trans acceptance? So I'm happy to have a go answering anything you care to ask in good faith. Who knows, we might even make some progress.

I think sex is largely a state of mind, yes.

I know I say this a lot, but you've really got to wonder how these people think babies are made

Well, meditation I should think. Really really concentrating on their womanly feels, really really hard. And then the magic happens

WallaceinAnderland · 15/10/2023 18:08

Finally, we get down to it. Hair, clothes and makeup. It always is.

However OP. None of these make you a woman. Women have a variety of hair styles and clothes and many don't wear any makeup.

Women is born not worn.

possibly if one person gets really hairless and another becomes extra assertive, the humours fall into balance and the magic stork makes a deposit in the gooseberry patch

or something

countrypunk · 15/10/2023 18:09

@AlphaTransWoman Do you believe sex is a state of mind in all other mammals too? How do you explain that all mammals ever have been conceived by the fusing of a single egg (from a body that produces large gametes, ie female) and a single sperm (from a body that produces small gametes, ie male)? What do you call those body types? Because I, and everyone else up to about 2015, call them male and female, before gender identity ideology took hold of society.

If sex is a state of mind, can I identify as male and start producing sperm?

I mean come on OP. You've got to be on the wind up. I cannot take 'sex is a state of mind' seriously.

I can't tell you how wonderful it is to have a real set of breasts if you've lived for several decades without one

I hate to break it to you but you still don’t have a real set.

Set? SET????? Is he collecting? Show me a women anywhere anytime who calls her breasts a SET? One? One SET? How many sets can you have?

AFieldGuideToTrees · 15/10/2023 18:14

I think the best thing was the clothes. Walking into the office for the first time wearing a woman's suit and blouse made me feel amazing, liberated and powerful. Everyone was commenting on how wonderful I looked.

In an ideal world men who wanted to could do all this without pretending to be women and still be told they look wonderful.

Sadly, the trans movement seem determined to try and keep everyone constrained in stereotypes. So much so that men (and women) feel they need to pretend to be the opposite sex in order to dress how they want, call themselves what they want, and do whatever they want to their bodies.

Which they really don't.

countrypunk · 15/10/2023 18:15

Maybe he has various sizes to choose from, depending on whether he's wearing a work suit or clubbing gear.
He's basically admitted that womanhood is a costume, so why not?

A real woman would know we collectively call them a brace of breasts.

Oh I see, it's not a real set as in they are part of his body. Its a real set as in I bought this set of chicken fillets that are real and I put them in my bra and they exist.

No wonder few in the movement want to discuss anything, and scream TERF! and LITERAL VIOLENCE! when anyone asks a question, it would soon become obvious to the whole world what a load of nonsense it all is.

I've already covered the issue of sex specific spaces and explained that I share women's concerns about these.

But not for the same reasons, eh?

itsmyp4rty · 15/10/2023 18:26

It seems OP that you agree with 2 pretty main GC views - that trans women shouldn't be in women's spaces and should have third spaces and that children shouldn't be given puberty blockers.

The thing is you say TWAW but then say TW shouldn't be in womens sports or prisons etc. If you really thought TW were women then why would you think that they shouldn't be in women's spaces? They'd just be women in women's spaces.

IMO it seems more like you think TW are TW and women are women and it's not wrong to be a TW but it's not the same as a being a woman. Otherwise if you thought biological men could magically change sex and become women then you'd think that you had the right to absolutely everything women had, surely?

I've never understood why TW couldn't just accept that they were TW and that that is not the same as being born a woman. But your views seem fairly consistent with being GC to me regardless of your reasons for thinking you are trans or wanting to be a transwoman.

What I'm really interested in though is what you think GC views are? And what the difference is between your TRA views and others GC views are?

TheOccasionalFag · 15/10/2023 18:26

I'm actually disgusted by this fucking bull shit.

I really wish there was a way for trans women to TRULY experience what it's like to be female for just a week. All of the shit thrown at you in all its painful, misogynist, unfair, terrifying glory.

I guarantee they'd all run a fucking mile in the other direction.

Fucking absolute bollocks. All of it. Entitled bull shit that I have no time for. Get your head out of your arse. Unbelievably offensive shit.

Just fuck off.

popebishop · 15/10/2023 18:42

It seems OP that you agree with 2 pretty main GC views

  1. that being female-bodied is in some way linked to being a woman.

I mean, that's quite a fundamental one.

TheOccasionalFag · 15/10/2023 18:49

Every single thing that has traumatised me in my life has been as a result of me being a girl or a woman. A female .

Had boys do and say inappropriate things to me during my primary years. And then in my teen years. Regularly.

Because I was a girl.

Someone tried to rape me when I was 20, walking back to my house. He punched me in the face when I miraculously managed to resist. I still bear the scars 20+ years later. I'm afraid to walk anywhere alone.

Because I am a woman.

I worked for almost 10 years in a male dominated industry. Listening to sexist, demeaning bullshit that made me (in my younger years) feel unable to advocate for myself and further my career.

Because I am a woman.

I experienced an extremely traumatic birth which left me with severe tears and a prolapse which I'm still dealing with.

Because I am a woman.

As a result of the same birth experience, I had my peroneal nerve severed and I couldn't walk for almost a year.

Because I am a woman.

I was in an abusive relationship, he tried to strangle me in my own home.

Because I am a woman.

But you've got a 'set of breasts' and a business suit.

So you're just like me!

Honestly, this shit needs to stop.

I am beyond offended.

The height of entitlement. You can dress however you like, I couldn't give a shit.

But call yourself a woman?

You should be ashamed.

@AllProperTeaIsTheft

"Ha - so, for example, it's fine to say that women are naturally more nurturing and houseproud, so it's only natural that (low-paid) jobs in the care sector (which many men would regard as demeaning), and the bulk of all housework, are done predominantly by women, as long as men pretend they don’t think those tasks are inferior?"

I'm curious about something. If, as you suggest, I'm only pretending not to think that female roles are 'inferior', why on earth would I want to live as a woman?

so how do you live as a woman?

Have you taken a 17% (have seen 25%) pay cut?
Do you make the tea and get meeting rooms ready at work? take the minutes?
Do you do a disproportionate amount of the housework, childcare and meantal load?
Do you budge up to let men manspread on public transport?

How exactly do you live as a woman?

MrInbetween · 15/10/2023 18:51

@TheOccasionalFag ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

ZuttZeVootEeeVo · 15/10/2023 18:55

Wouldn't feeling "liberated and powerful" in womens clothes be dysphoric, given its men who "generally like to be assertive and in charge of things, women are more likely to to be kind and take a supporting role"?

Take that power suit off sharpish!

TheOccasionalFag · 15/10/2023 18:57

And FYI, I don't particularly like what I see in the mirror either.

But as I'm a grown fucking adult, I suck it up and get on my life. Thankful that I'm healthy and free.

God I WISH I could identify out of being a woman, but as I have a grip on reality I know this is just a wish and it's never going to happen.

So I make do. I suggest you do the same. Like the rest of us.

You're not special.

You're like everyone else.

The strongest post yet.
And, op, you can substitute all her examples with very very similar ones of mine. All because I am a woman too. Me fucking too.
I'm so angry you think your euphoria at dressing in a sodding blouse makes you equal to us, a part of our category, with shared experiences. FYI, I never got a hard on from accidentally touching my 'set'.
