What products do you endorse?

I just don't get why people feed the need to be "influenced". Why do you think what you do is useful/necessary to people's lives?

Influencer? What do you flog?

How does it actually work ie do you get sent contracts for your work and how do you negotiate compensation?

I’m trying to come at it from the other side: I run a small business and want to approach some local influencers to see if they’ll advertise us. But I literally don’t know what to write!

I don’t want to appear unprofessional or like I don’t know what I’m doing (even though I don’t honestly!), and I don’t want it to be a casual arrangement in case we spend money on them and they don’t follow through their side.

Do you pay tax like all other freelancers?

What do you think it is about you that is aspirational?

How do you feel about encouraging people to buy crap they don't need?

What qualifies you to "influence" people?

@DanseAvecLesLoup it's quite a niche area I'm in so don't want to say specifically. Let's say animals / pet products!

@RaraRachael never had an intention of 'inflluencing'.. started as a hobby account and grew massively and now it's an income stream. I don't see it as actually influencing anyone. It's just a way if making money in a field I love. In very happy.

Can one just call oneself an influencer, or does one actually have to prove that someone has in some way, been influenced?

@AvoNw if your a small business reach out directly to relevant influencer, don't be shy. Some will have Media Packs with fixed rates for services.. others will be more casual and will work on a gifted basis. A lot of us are looking to establish legit buisness relationships and longer term deals so look at who aligns with your brand and values and who has the same audience as your target market.

Is influencer the new name for sales person?

@PortiasBiscuit people started calling me an influencer when my following grew and brands started wanting to pay me.

Don't you feel grubby taking money for doing fuck all? And knowing that you're getting people to spend money they don't need to spend?

What was your job before you were an influencer?

Just asking as I follow a vague relative who's a wannabe influencer. All her posts consists of are speeded up videos of her tidying her house, links to hideous clothes that I can't imagine anyone would want to buy and endless tat she buys with her child's name on etc.

She's my only experience of influencers so obviously not all are the same.

Thanks @PercyPigfangirl, that’s exactly what we’re looking at at the moment - we’re starting by looking at people who are already genuine customers and do already do reviews and shoutouts etc without us asking.
