@2000lightyearsaway123 hopefully some of these might be to your taste and give you some outfit inspo or some shops to explore. Enjoy your night on the tiles!

Can you recommend any shaper underwear that actually works?

I'm 5.10" so needs to work for a longer torso. I'm a size 16 with big boobs

Ancientbride · 08/04/2022 20:15

Do you have any ideas for a late 50’s bride? 5’5, size 10 bottom but sometimes a 12 on top. I keep up with fashion and like to look cool, even a bit edgy. I’m really struggling so hour input would be amazing

Thank you!

The first one is nice but I’ not keen on the back. I also like the VW but it’s maybe too weddingy? Totally love the Galvan but with the trousers it’s probably a bit more than I want to spend. Really do love it though.

I should have said that I’m also not sure about wearing white. I’ve not been married before but wonder if I’m just too old for white?

Great ideas though, thank you!

Any suggestions for 'night out/drinks & dinner in town' dressing for a 50 year old 5' 7" size 12 blue eyed blonde inverted triangle? I have big shoulders and boobs so need to be careful i dont wear baggy things or i look like a box on stilts.

Perhaps more of an ivory colour rather then the true white as this can look harsh against the skin. I love the elegance and clean lines of something like this

Hi @frillseeking
I need a little jacket for work.
Wool or boiled wool, must go in at the waist so not a blazer.
Something really simple that can go over dresses or Boden Richmond trousers.
Not suit material as that just looks like a mismatched suit.
Twenty years ago I had the perfect thing from the Gap (when they didn't make their clothes out of tissue paper).
The big problem now is getting something that isn't cut like a fridge.
I'm 5' 6" and a size 12

Are you me? Grin I have this issue so i tend to get jackets lightly tailored to go in at the waist, otherwise I look like a box.

Its v tricky to find this type of thing. Tailoring has gone very longline and quite relaxed so can be very boxy in shape. Wool might be a bit tricky to source at this time of year but here are a few options

Ooooh @frillseeking
That is helpful, thank you.
Whistles is somewhere that's never crossed my radar.
Not sure about the middle one but the Wolf and Badger one looks good. I was looking at the Rumour brand on the W&B website last night!!
Thanks

Hello @frillseeking I am 46 , problem with big tummy area and don’t like showing my legs. I am off on a weekend break to Barcelona. Do you have any style advice for comfy clothes during the day with lots of walking, touring the sights? Thank you xx

It's also worth keeping an eye on zara as they do lots of little trophy style jackets which are under the blazer category.

Also love this neat little Me + Em style. Would look fab with the Boden trousers
@frillseeking, I'd love you advice on what would you wear with summer dresses or a midi skirt if you wanted to wear them to work and sandals / white trainers are a no no.
Good question. Something like this could work

I don't like showing legs either in warmer weather so my go to pieces are jumpsuits, midi dresses and casual trousers. You want to be cool and comfortable so keep it loose and casual. I'd wear one of these with a nice sandal or trainer, cross body bag and little denim jacket

Any good shaping underwear to suggest?

frillseeking · 09/04/2022 17:27

@FingersCrossedSA

I'm looking for a dress for a family wedding. I'm my head I'm thinking a blue/green silky wrap dress with short sleeves and ending just below the knee (and flattering on a slight tummy!).
Any suggestions please? Or any other ideas please?
I'm 5'3", size 10 with average size everything! I also have short hair if that makes a difference.
Thank you! x

Thank you @frillseeking, I really like the kurt gieger shoes you linked. I've ordered them in nude to try. ❤️

Whitney168 · 10/04/2022 12:06

My whole wardrobe desperately in need of an overhaul - actually, that's not even true really, if I could fit in to the nice stuff I'd mostly be fine.

However, shoes is where I really struggle at the moment. What shoes should I own for the dreaded 'smart casual' - lunches out with friends etc. I really seem to struggle here - I own smart and I own scruffy, but I don't do well in between (clothes and shoe-wise, to be honest).

So - my ask is recommendations for some shoe suggestions that are 'current'. (Big feet, so nothing too clumpy.)

What a lovely, helpful thread !
Early 40s, 5'9" and size 12 - with weight carried on my belly. I actually feel lost as to what I'm supposed to wear and where I'm supposed to shop! I struggle with things digging in to my belly so I've fallen into a bad lockdown habit of wearing joggers and trousers that I'd previously have never worn out the house but now seem appropriate to wear any time 🙈 can you suggest something for me for everyday wear?

Benjaminbunnyslettuce · 10/04/2022 22:17

Any suggestions for just general every day wear (mum of two) for someone who just generally has zero sense of style and so normally just wears jeans (or jeggings Blush), hoodies and trainers and has done since being a teenager when the plan was just not to be noticed and it sort of stuck? I’m 5ft 6 and size 8/10. Thank you!

I think an all in one is best as separate shapewear can produce rolls in unwanted places. I also prefer softer fabric shape wear that you can breathe in rather than anything too rigid. Skims are very good:
