Following on from the previous thread, this is a new one for spring summer requests

@frillseeking thank you for the link to the Boden jacket, I actually have that one! It's ok but very straight up and down. What I'm really after is something more like a traditional Austrian boiled wool jacket but with a waist! So shorter and Dame shaped rather than fridge shaped.
I'm loving this thread, so many amazing suggestions, thank you!

What about something like this? If you look at the green colour, you can see it on the model and it looks very shaped. Maybe worth a try!

Absolutely perfect @frillseeking I have ordered.😊

frillseeking · 23/04/2022 23:52

@RubyRubyRubyDiamond I’ve attached a few ideas. Do these work with your ‘funky’ vibe? From a fit perspective, the jumpsuit has a tie waist which conceals the tummy. The skirt is in a crinkle fabric which is always good for skimming over the tummy area (same as anything pleated.) and the dress has shaping at the waist which brings you in but doesn’t cling to the tummy. These are all from the petite range and available in size 14/16.

Love these thanks!

You're welcome. I also realise I didn't come back to you re the work jacket. Is it the bust area that you're struggling with?

OP posts:
RubyRubyRubyDiamond · 24/04/2022 16:39

Yes it is - Pebberberry fit with the bust but drown me as they’ve no petite and the 80s style blazers don’t fit on the bust😁

frillseeking · 26/04/2022 09:07

@Whatelsecouldibecalled the in between stage can be so difficult, I remember it well! I do think maternity style is very personal as it very much depends on your bump and how comfortable you feel. A lot of people swear by the hair band trick and bump bands but this never worked for me.

I would definitely suggest some maternity leggings and more stretchy denim styles such as jeggings to see you through until you can fit into maternity jeans properly. Asos, H&M and Jojo are great. Also have a look at Vinted.

Otherwise, anything stretchy (sounds obvious but it's true!), elasticated waist or with shirring will work. I've attached some styles that would work and the beauty with these is that they will be good post baby.

OP posts:
frillseeking · 26/04/2022 09:11

These are just ideas but they are outfits that will work for the majority of your pregnancy because they are stretchy. The co-ord is a great piece because you can wear the top undone with a little cami underneath or wear the top over a tight midi dress or wear the trousers with a shirt or tshirt- lots of outfit variations. Same with the leopard dress- this has a lovely shirred bodice so plenty of stretch and room for a growing bump. You could wear this with a leather jacket for evening or a denim jacket. I also think the stripe tshirt dress is super versatile - you could chuck a khaki shirt over the top if you're feeling a bit self conscious or tie a nice white linen shirt at the waist for a trendy look but it's just a very easy shape that looks pulled together but comfortable. Hope that helps

@Alabamahammer

I could do with some help please. I seem to still dress the same way I did when I was 16 even though I'm now 40 with 3 kids!
My go to style is jeans tshirt and trainers, but I just feel like I look so frumpy and mumsy. I'm 5ft 4, 11 and a size 14, I pretty much have no waist and a really flat bum! If I ever try and wear anything high waisted or like jeans that are supposed to give you a better shape I just can't breathe!
I'd like to look a bit more "grown up" and not like a mum who's dressing like a teenager... Oh one more thing, we're a bit strapped for cash so needs to be on a budget. Thanks in advance.

River island do a great pair of mid rise bum sculpt jeans https://www.riverisland.com/p/blue-molly-mid-rise-bum-sculpt-skinny-jeans-780812. Also check out the F&F at Tesco contour jeans and push up jeans for a less £ option.

Once you've got the jeans nailed, pair with a nice top for an easy every day look. Something like this would look great with jeans and a nice summer sandal. This kind of style is good for creating shape https://direct.asda.com/george/women/shirts-blouses/blue-floral-print-peplum-v-neck-blouse/GEM936039,default,pd.html?cgid=D1M1G20C4

Similarly, this M&S style which you could wear with light denim jeans and sandals or trainers for day time or dress up for evening or smarter occasions with black trousers and a heel https://www.marksandspencer.com/animal-print-puff-sleeve-peplum-top/p/clp60559444?intid=mobileappppdpshare

If you're up for wearing a dress, this is a great every day style www.matalan.co.uk/product/detail/s2897321_c211/green-floral-midi-tea-dress-green the waist seaming and elasticated back seam adds definition to the waist and the floaty bottom half creates shape to the bum and hips

Thank you so much, I'm looking at the jeans now. I've been looking at a few peplum style tops lately and I think they will really work for me.

frillseeking · 26/04/2022 15:39

@ConfusedGin I've attached some ideas for you. The best shape for formal would be a straight leg. However, wide leg is also very good for your shape and you can get a subtle version, they don't all have to have masses of material in them. The belted style I've attached from New Look is a peg which is normally tapered but you can see this style is a relaxed peg which means the cut will be more generous. The M&S style is straight but has stretch which is also another thing to consider to help with fit but of course you don't want anything that clings too much as this will emphasise rather then enhance.

Hobbs do this bestselling straight leg style which is also available in petite:

@ConfusedGin these also look good from DP’s. Although not the most exciting of shops sometimes, places like DP‘s, New Look and Wallis have been doing petite ranges for a long time so they know their stuff and you can pick up some good pieces. I’ve also attached a couple of casual jumpsuit ideas. I love the linen revere collar option, this is a real wardrobe staple that could be dressed up or down and again has that relaxed leg without being oversized. I might have to buy this one!

@frillseeking
Hello was wondering if you might to be able to help
I’m 4ft10” very slim/scrawny size 4-6 small waist & hips but 30e chest finding it very difficult to find clothing that fits as sizing appears to be coming up so much bigger (I have some 20 year old French connection dresses that are a size 8 which fit beautifully) I’m 62 haven’t bought anything for so long as it’s such a mission.
Usually wear Topshop jeans/tops & trainers
Thank you

I missed some of these messages as there was a bit of a flurry in the middle of the thread. I think the key is to look at shops who are notoriously on the smaller side. For example French brands such as Sandro and Maje feature the cropped, petite aesthetic heavily and start at a size 6 but they come up very small. Reiss have a dedicated petite range that starts at a size 4 and because their look is particularly tailored, you will find that the sizing is on the small side but pieces do sell out very quickly. And Other Stories also have a selection of styles in a size 4. Zara do XXS in some pieces and are notorious for being small. I'd also have a look at the Outnet as designer pieces tend to be on the small side as well. Is there anything particular you're looking for?

Oh thank you for replying, trousers are a particular problem especially on the hips would love some straight leg jeans as well haven’t bought any dresses for a long time as got tired of sending stuff back & tbh I’ve lost my way fashion wise would like to smarten up a bit I suppose.
shoes/trainers another issue as the ‘old’ size three appears to come up a lot bigger.
I do have some nice jackets/blazers/bikers.

Thank you! I like the look of the New Look relaxed peg - I've always liked how peg trousers of others but just assumed they wouldn't work on a larger pear shape as I was then and my big chunky calves.

Will definitely take a look and order some options - I had a work event recently and realised I now have no black smart event clothes with pockets which are a must when running events.

I felt great in the dress I wore which is from the Rachel Stevens collection at Oasis, it was just ruined by the papers in my hand all night!

frillseeking · 27/04/2022 15:07

@dontcallmelen ive attached some
summer workwear ideas. I’ve gone for relaxed, tailored workwear as this looks chic for summer and looks smart without looking stuffy, particularly if your current style is fairly casual. There’s scope here for pieces to be mixed together to provide the essence of a capsule wardrobe. Hope this helps!

@LittleSnakes sorry it’s taken me a while to come back to you. I’ve attached some every day pieces. Any of the dresses would look great paired back with trainers or sandals and with a little denim or leather jacket thrown over the top. Love the linen pull on trousers. A really good alternative to jeans and v on trend this season.

Thanks frillseeking! I’ve name changed but you just posted for me. I love the linen trousers but might need a more practical colour. Also really like the bright blue shirt and the striped T shirt. I’ve just bought a leather jacket so that’s handy.

My sister wants me as a bridesmaid at her wedding. Have you got any ideas for a 6ft tall size 16/18 with big boobs. Ideally she wants me a long dress. Really struggling.

Not sure if there is a colour scheme but I've found a few options. David's bridal do a really extensive tall range and have endless colour options so I'd definitely recommend having a look there.

You were really helpful with my earlier request but things have moved on a touch in that now, DS’s mum is wearing the same sort of dress I was intending to go for.
So now I need to look at jumpsuits or trouser suits for a wedding.

Just to recap, I’m 5ft 5(ish), hourglass size 8-10. I like boho type style but I also quite like 7/8 cigarette trousers and jackets.

DS says he wants glitz and glam so sequins but I think that I’d look like an Abba tribute band.
