@Doidontimmm

Wow just saw this thread! I’m getting married soon and worried about being cold at night. What would be good as a cover up (prefer something I can wear again so not too bridal). Not fussed if it’s casual as photographer will be gone lol. I’m 5” size 10.

Gorgeous dress. Would you wear something like a pashmina? Or if you're really worried about the cold,a little faux fur jacket?

@Nadamar

What a fab thread!

Looking for some modest wear ideas please?
I currently live in jeans, bodysuits and checked shirts but want something lighter for spring/summer.
I’m v pear shaped but lately carrying weight around my middle

There are some gorgeous summer co-ords on the high street this year which I think could work. Zara also have some lovely printed options.

I really want to wear the hush Floriza skirt to a wedding but unsure how to style it - in a curvy 14. Usually wear with trainers and t shirt/biker jacket but would love to wear it more formally!

I'd go for something sequin like the attached or something structured like a satin Bardot top or asymmetric top. https://www.na-kd.com/en/products/one-shoulder-shirred-satin-top-beige?CountryCode=GBR&utmsource=google&utmmmedium=cpc&utmcampaign=uk-css-shopping-smart-GS1660-000529-0005-581&dfwwtracker=30134-754618&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6qqhPGW9wIVo2LmCh0FIgmlEAQYAiABEgJq3fDBwE

I've been shopping and the best places I found for nice t shirts/tops were the White Company and weirdly M&S. I was so impressed by what M&S have to offer at the moment. My DD1 is 29 and has also bought loads from there. They seem to be doing something very right at the moment.

I could do with some help please. I seem to still dress the same way I did when I was 16 even though I'm now 40 with 3 kids!
My go to style is jeans tshirt and trainers, but I just feel like I look so frumpy and mumsy. I'm 5ft 4, 11 and a size 14, I pretty much have no waist and a really flat bum! If I ever try and wear anything high waisted or like jeans that are supposed to give you a better shape I just can't breathe!
I'd like to look a bit more "grown up" and not like a mum who's dressing like a teenager... Oh one more thing, we're a bit strapped for cash so needs to be on a budget. Thanks in advance.

Great legs but I have huge boobs and a tummy, short torso. They just make me look fat which I hate. Any suggestions for a nice dress shape and also a casual day outfit?

I'd go for jeans, t shirt and a lightweight blazer with trainers or a casual day dress and denim jacket - have you got anything like that in your wardrobe?

I've attached three dress shapes. This is more for shape than style as I don't know your age/style etc. The best shape is a v neck, button down or wrap for your bust. If you've got great legs then show them off. There are little tricks you can work into your wardrobe such as the mint dress has detail on the lower part of the dress so this draws your eyes downwards. The mint velvet dress has a tie waist so this allows you to position it where you want and elongate your torso and also allows you to create definition between your bust area and waist. Avoid anything high waisted, you want to balance out your shape and draw the eye downwards and elongate your top half. Vertical stripes are also good for this.

Thank you. These are lovely shapes. I do wonder if the extra fills and tie waste just add volume to what feels like an already fat frame but I know what you mean and agree about the v neck and wrap styles.

I think most people just don't realise what suits them. Confidence is also a big issue. A lot of people think they can only look good when they lose weight. A lot of women also get lost in their style after having children. Basic items are well fitting jeans and good underwear as these form the basis of most of our every day wardrobe

River island do a great pair of mid rise bum sculpt jeans https://www.riverisland.com/p/blue-molly-mid-rise-bum-sculpt-skinny-jeans-780812. Also check out the F&F at Tesco contour jeans and push up jeans for a less £ option.

Once you've got the jeans nailed, pair with a nice top for an easy every day look. Something like this would look great with jeans and a nice summer sandal. This kind of style is good for creating shape https://direct.asda.com/george/women/shirts-blouses/blue-floral-print-peplum-v-neck-blouse/GEM936039,default,pd.html?cgid=D1M1G20C4

Similarly, this M&S style which you could wear with light denim jeans and sandals or trainers for day time or dress up for evening or smarter occasions with black trousers and a heel https://www.marksandspencer.com/animal-print-puff-sleeve-peplum-top/p/clp60559444?intid=mobileappppdpshare

If you're up for wearing a dress, this is a great every day style www.matalan.co.uk/product/detail/s2897321_c211/green-floral-midi-tea-dress-green the waist seaming and elasticated back seam adds definition to the waist and the floaty bottom half creates shape to the bum and hips

@ConstantlyCooking

What would you suggest for a mid-50s apple with long slim legs and a big bust but I have a very short body so my top half is not long enough for many dresses and tops.

Can I ask if you've tried buying from petite? One of the main measurement differences between main range and petite is shoulder to hem so petite is definitely for those with a short torso. The fit is the most important thing.
Otherwise, there are things you can do to create the illusion of a longer body such as a v neckline which opens up the neck area, elongates and draws the eye downwards and this also works very well for a big bust. An obvious one but avoid anything high waisted or anything with a seam or tie that sits high up on the body. Also wearing your top untucked such as this blouse and trouser outfit as an easy way to make your torso appear longer.

Ooooh yes please! I’m totally stuck in a rut when it comes to jeans. Been wearing skinny jeans forever, I’ve tried mum jeans but they make me feel so frumpy and short of leg. I can’t work out if that’s because I’m wearing them with the wrong tops and shoes? I’m often in my trusty white trainers.

I’m 52, 5ft6 and size 8. Unfortunately I’ve got a long back/ waist, a bit of a pot belly, and short legs. Thank you

I have fairly short legs and I really rate the M&S mum Jean as it is high waisted and quite slim in the leg so it gives me a nice shape. I've tried others and they go saggy and make me look stumpy. How are you wearing your tops and what tops are you wearing with them? The straight leg is also a good shape for elongating the legs. These shapes are actually much easier to pull off then a skinny with trainer as this can really shorten your legs.

I'm 31, mum to a 1 year old, size 12. Work 4 days in the creative industry. Still stuck on joggers and jumpers. Have a lovely wardrobe of dresses but rarely wear them. Hate trousers and jeans as I'm pear shaped. Any quick easy ways to feel like my old sophisticated and glamorous pre baby self?

This is so lovely! Fab advice!
Please can you help me?
I’m late 30’s, 5’ 2”, 10-12, holding weight on belly and hips. I used to live in skinny jeans but they just feel so tight and restrictive so now just wear workout leggings (but without doing the actual workout!) I bought new straight leg jeans and they look stupid on my shape and also ‘girlfriend’ jeans but I look like mc Hammer back in the day.
I walk to from school and have a baby so tend to wear trainers or dainty converse as need to be comfy. I also feel the cold!
Any suggestions on bottom half’s please or dresses I can layer up with? I don’t feel my age but certainly look it!
Thank you so much!

Thank you!
Bit of a tricky one with the need to be warm. What about layering up with a longline gilet? Very much on trend but great for layering.

I also thought about knitted trousers such as these topshop petite ones www.asos.com/prd/200483687?acquisitionsource=pasteboard these would look cool with trainers, a black tee and a leather or denim jacket. This is a great Co ord www.dorothyperkins.com/petite-wide-leg-trousers/BQQ02675.html?color=115

Re the girlfriend jeans, which ones did you try? They shouldn't be really baggy, the girlfriend is a slimmer version of the boyfriend jean

Loving your work on this thread @frillseeking! I have already noted some nice things from replies to other people that resemble me Smile

Could you recommend a dress for a formal evening black tie style do, for a very short (5ft.) plump and busty size 20? Budget options would be great as not sure if I'll get loads of wear out of it. Seems like not much of this around in summer. Any help would be terrific, thanks.

I feel like they're a bit short now and I'm a bit heavier.. I'm actually an hourglass vs a pear and have usually liked quite nipped in waists and a high neckline but don't think it's very fashionable and I don't want to look like a 50s throwback. Climate here is quite hot so tight sleeveless midis are all the rage but my arms aren't Michelle Obama like..
