Anyway, as I say, I’m from Wigan. If anyone is remotely interested, ask away.

I read that thread and actually felt sorry for Wigan 😕

How do you eat a pie? In Notts we ate pie with mushy peas on top, where I live now it comes with mash and liquor

Ok. I wrote out some answers and lost the post.

We really do love pies. It is a serious business. If I take a pie round for my dad he always wants to know where it’s from.

FYI the best pies in Wigan are Galloway’s party pies. This is very outing because everyone knows I love them.

The pier is a music hall joke. It does actually exist but it’s a tiny little jetty thing in the canal (or the cut).

I love Stuart Maconie. He is one of those northern men who are brilliantly clever, in a lovely northern way. See also Andy Burnham, Shaun Keaveny eat al.

Are there areas in wigan that are becoming gentrified? I've only ever been to the haigh hall area, but I thought it was gorgeous and couldn't understand the hate for Wigan.

Thank you. Just googled the pies. I remember a big row at uni (Nottingham) for what we all called bread roll, love the idea of a pie in one

Some of the semi-rural areas of Wigan are truly lovely but I can’t see gentrification in the true sense happening if I am honest.
That said, there are places like Leigh where loads of houses are springing up because they are fairly well accessible for Manchester and other places (despite the lack of train station) and where because of the location, house prices are fairly low.
