What did you think about the Line of Duty finale? Can you believe it? ( don’t let your weight define you)

Crinolinelady · 03/05/2021 22:22

Do you get very uncomfortable in hot weather?

Hollywolly1 · 03/05/2021 22:26

Maybe like a lot of people going on a diet (me included)you expect to lose the weight in a very very short time then give up.
I think the very fact you started a thread about it here speaks volumns, you are trying change and I believe you have the will power to do just that.
Go to a professional dietician forget diets, start doing a walk even 1klm a day and build up but I'd say allow yourself treats otherwise it would be impossible to stick to it.
Let the past be just that and move forward to healthier days,so many people are in the same position.
Best of luck to a new you

@BentBabyBastard I certainly couldn't afford a takeaway every night on a nurses wage - even at £10 a night x 30 = £300 per month! That would be more than 10% of my annual salary, before tax! However I suspect that it costs the OP about double that, at least, based on what she's listed that she gets from the takeaway; curry, rice and at least 2 side dishes.

BashfulClam · 03/05/2021 22:41

Yeah overnight oats will solve your weight issue (they are also vile and smell awful). It’s a full mind and emotional shift, I’ve lost 1 and 1/2 stone lately (without vile overnight oats) I’ve lost weight and gained it back before (I was skinny in my 20’s).

GeorgeandHarold66 · 03/05/2021 22:59

Could you use another weight loss buddy? I have loads to lose too and this thread makes me want to give you a hug! It's so much more complex than eating overnight oats and going for a walk isn't it?

Have you ever tried hypnosis?
**@MorrisZapp* and @kayakingmum*

A few months ago I was eating really healthily and dropped a few stone. I've put a few stone on with some stressful situations that have come up so here goes;

Fucking hell, i'm so embarrassed to admit this but

Morning: McDonalds breakfast (mcmuffin meal and 4 hash browns - OMG) and a pancake meal if I am WFH. If in the office I grab 2 pasties from Greggs. Disgusting, I know. The other day I had two pasties, a bag of crisps and a mini cake loaf.

Lunchtime: Can be anything from pasta to sausage and chips to McDonald's again if WFH. Office is usually a chicken salad or a healthy vegan burrito and yoghurt.

Tea: Takeaway very regularly, which consists of a curry, rice, samosas, lamb chops. It's a lot. Another tea can be baked potato with lashings of coleslaw and cheese. Another favourite is sausage, mash and lots of gravy.

Snacks inbetween: scones, cakes, chocolate.

I have put so much weight on the past few months I can physically tell and I have started to get epic 'back fat' which I have never had before. It's dire.
You have only written on this thread about what you eat. Do not overlook what you drink either. Sugary drinks and alcohol could easily add a thousand or more calories to your daily diet and water or herbal tea are better replacements.

YouKnowItsTrue · 03/05/2021 23:43

Are you concerned about diabetes?

Gobbeldegook · 04/05/2021 00:06

Are you happy? Flowers

UrbanRambler · 04/05/2021 00:11

OP, your honesty and confidence is impressive. I am also a comfort eater, and love food, so I was salivating when I read about your food choices. I love the fact that you own your choices and make no excuses - respect to you for not shying away from the facts.

I've been a couple of stone overweight for years, but have managed to lose about 20 pounds over the past year, by cutting down on fatty foods and doing long daily walks (I gradually increased the distance to 5 miles a day).

I think you will find your own path to weight loss when you are ready. You're awesome, you'll do it, I feel sure.

Anne1958 · 04/05/2021 03:07

Have you considered getting a gastric sleeve?

It’s not really a case of choosing which surgery you’ll have. It also depends on your eating habits.

1forAll74 · 04/05/2021 03:56

I don't go along with this comfort eating thing, and piling on weight, when you know very well,it can cause lots of health problems.
It could affect your children's attitude to food, and if not could worry your Husband,or other family members.

kayakingmum · 04/05/2021 06:33

Thanks for the response. It's an interesting topic.
Do you think companies like MacDonalds should take more responsibility for the harm they are doing to the country's health? Maybe they should be taxed more or forced to change its menus? I'm not sure.
No doubt some people go to MacDonalds occasionally, but I'm sure (like with betting shops) a lot of their business comes from a small number of people.

JinglingHellsBells · 04/05/2021 08:13

I feel very very sorry and concerned for you @RainbowBriteUk. But what I've noticed is that the questions I've asked around your emotions/therapy and what may lie behind your binge eating have been unanswered. You've alluded to job and relationship upsets which most of us have experienced, but we deal with these in a different way.

I just wonder if you are still carrying a lot of emotion over these, or your response to stress and unhappiness is to eat - a form of self-abuse which others have mentioned here. It becomes a pattern that is hard to break without professional support - therapy.

If you are already having support for your MH issues, is it helping your eating? The over-eating is a symptom of something much deeper going on, so I just hope your MH team are aware of it and supporting you. Do look at the support offered by BEAT which is free and by phone. Hope this might help you.

whataboutbob · 04/05/2021 08:25

I echo jingling’s post. I’ve been an NHS dietitian all my working life. One group of patients I felt I let down was young women who were binge eating to cover up an emotional pain somewhere in their life. The primary emotional upset was not fully acknowledged and dealt with, it was as if overeating was an easier/ distracting problem to deal with. Please consider therapy, Overeaters Anonymous might be a good place to start.

ChaToilLeam · 04/05/2021 08:31

Hi OP, I’m another comfort eater and have been heavy for most of my life. If you don’t mind a suggestion, I would say have a look at Rebelfit, it is an approach to health and fitness which puts your mindset first. Weight loss isn’t the first priority but can happen as a result of improved self care, awareness of overeating triggers, overall better nutrition and being more active. I dropped 50lbs over the last couple of years, am very active and eat well, still end up face down in the crisps from time to time but overall my health is much improved and my doctor is extremely happy. Perhaps this could be an approach for you?

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 04/05/2021 08:51

It's often said that alcoholics have their own 'rock bottom ' before they are finally in a place to decide to tackle their problem.
Do you know what it might take for you to be able to turn things around? You must be adding to your mental health issues by living the way you do, fertility problems etc?
I hope you can access help and be where you want to be Flowers

You can buy carrot sticks and bottles of water in MacDonalds. It's about personal responsibility, I hate this culture of its all someone else's fault.
Iwonder08 · 04/05/2021 08:57

Were you overweight as a child? Do you think your parents fed you too much/not healthy food? Do you blame them?

SueSaid · 04/05/2021 09:56

I didn't suggest oats would 'solve the op's weight issue'. I said it's a start. They are a cheap, filling healthy breakfast rather than having McDonalds. Also @BashfulClam you don't have to sniff them, just soak overnight in milk or yogurt add fruit then eat. You mustn't have such a defeatist attitude.

BashfulClam · 04/05/2021 10:37

@JaniieJones I couldn’t help but smell them, I opened the jar I had them in and the smell made me retch. Their are many other healthy breakfasts that don’t smell like a shit inside a sweaty sock I certainly don’t eat things that reek. I am not defeatist as I said I have lost 1 1/2stone.

Gwenhwyfar · 04/05/2021 11:41

She also gets McDonalds quite often, which is probably more like £5 so similar to what someone might pay for lunch at a work canteen.

Gwenhwyfar · 04/05/2021 11:44

"You can buy carrot sticks and bottles of water in MacDonalds."

Not very appetising though is it? Their salads are no good either. However, their veggy burgers and filet o'fish don't seem to be that unhealthy or high calorie so I agree that going to MacDonalds isn't in itself a problem.

Gwenhwyfar · 04/05/2021 11:48

You weren't asked for your advice and OP has already said she knows about healthy food, just finds it hard to stick to, so it wasn't helpful.
