Since there have been a few hair related threads lately I thought people might have questions.

Thank you LoreliaRoryEmily I figured she was pulling a fast one. Thanks again.

LorelaiRoryEmily · 16/04/2019 13:27

@flicketyflack I’d say at that length you’d be better straightening it for a while? My hair is wavy too and when I have it cut like that the only way it looks good is straight or properly curled which is hard to do yourself(even for me!)

@LorelaiRoryEmily amazing thanks! Great thread!

ChipInTheSugar · 16/04/2019 13:30

I have done my own post but here goes anyway ...

Had my hair bleached yesterday and it's a bit bright! Will purple shampoo sort it out or shall I ask for another toner. I'm going to get the Bleach London Smoky shampoo.

Pics of now and what I would like:

Thank you so much @LorelaiRoryEmily

You were worried about no one responding and lots of people are!

My pic is in my first post - wonder why you can't see it? Never mind! Better for your eyes 🤣🤣🤣

I have a Q.

I recently had a full head of highlights as I'm greying on my crown (was blonde with a dark root stretch). The hairdresser was really impressed with how well the darker bits had lifted and that was that. As I was leaving the salon owner gave me some pumps of their purple shampoo in a bag and said on first wash leave it on as long as possible to even out any brassiness. There wasn't really any but there were some bit that had gone white blonde. Looked fine. Came to wash it and left it on 20mins, I had purple highlights, it was so bad. So I got some head and shoulders and washed it about 8times and then put on a treatment and all is well again.

Wow sorry for the essay. But I'm not scared to use anything purple but can see a brassy band appearing? What to dooo?

balloonyellow · 16/04/2019 13:33

A hairdresser burnt my scalp badly when bleaching it 1 year ago now. I had a lot of sores and bald patches but a lot of hair has started to grow back. I’ve completely left my hair alone, I don’t use products or hair dryers/straighteners. Do you think it would be okay to have my brown roots done yet? Would highlights be best to blend them into my bleached hair?

Megan2018 · 16/04/2019 13:34

Do you mind if clients don't want the small talk?
I hate all the chatting. I just like to disappear into my own little world and not have to talk. I like watching them work on my hair though.

RomanyQueen1 · 16/04/2019 13:34

I'm going for the hair cut of a lifetime soon, two months waiting list but she's world class. Grin

My question. I went to hairdresser last July, she said she would put a wash on my hair a brown colour, I said no.
However, she told me it was temporary and would last for 20 something washes, it's still here now and growing out.
She didn't do a colour test first, I thought she had to do one.

mrssunshinexxx · 16/04/2019 13:35

Thank you

Margot33 · 16/04/2019 13:39

@LorelaiRoryEmily
That's great advice. I shall let the hairdresser do it one more time then probably let it grow out. Best AMA post I've seen! Thank you.

LorelaiRoryEmily · 16/04/2019 13:43

@chipinthesugar your hair it still quite yellow. I would probably put a bleach bath in it before another toner. Go back to the hairdresser and let them sort it out.
I’d be concerned that a toner so t do a lot on it with all that warmth remaining. When they’ve fixed it grab yourself a bottle of echosline S6 shampoo online

OP posts:
LorelaiRoryEmily · 16/04/2019 13:43

*toner won’t do a lot

LorelaiRoryEmily · 16/04/2019 13:46

@chickenapesh use the purple shampoo but mix it with a regular one and don’t leave it any longer than 5 mins!!

You shouldn’t need it if she was confident she’d done the colour properly though. I’ve never done that in my 20 years.

If it’s very noticeable go back and ask her to sort it out for you.

I have had my hair bleached at ends and would like to go back dark. Browns show alot of red in my hair, what number brown would be a good colour thats not to dark and doesnt have red tones?

Thank you.

LorelaiRoryEmily · 16/04/2019 13:48

@balloonyellow once your scalp has healed and the hair has grown then yes I would colour it again.
Hilites will be the best option for you to get rid of the roots and avoid putting any colour on the scalp. And god don’t ever let anyone put bleach in your scalp again. Poor you

LorelaiRoryEmily · 16/04/2019 13:49

@megan2018 I Don’t mind at all. I usually figure it out very quickly and leave them to their thoughts. I don’t always feel like chatting myself

OP posts:
LorelaiRoryEmily · 16/04/2019 13:52

@Romanyqueen1 by rights yes she should have skin tested you if you were a new client it hadn’t had colour previously.

I’d be more concerned about the fact that you said no and she did it anyway though! Did she charge you?
I hope you get an amazing haircut!

chickenalapesh · 16/04/2019 13:52

I'm probably being overly picky so will mix as you suggested. Interesting though, I've been blonde before and never needed to mess with purple stuff! Thanks

LorelaiRoryEmily · 16/04/2019 13:55

@pointlessusername something on the level of a 6. Numbers of the tones vary from brand to brand so ask for a brown with maybe golden/Carmel warmth instead of red. Be very clear and tell them you do not want red.

Sundaychiller · 16/04/2019 13:55

Any tips on doing a decent blow dry at home please, I have fine hair which looks fine for a bout 2 hrs then flat and messy!
Thanks great thread BTW

slowdownplease · 16/04/2019 13:56

If a client comes in with lice, but they don't realise they have, how do you discretely tell them?

RomanyQueen1 · 16/04/2019 13:59

Lorelai

Thank you very much. I did agree but only when she told me it would wash out. I said no as they usually end up going orangey red on me and look awful, which of course has happened. I won't go there again.

The big appointment is with Vicky Queen of Curls in Manchester, I've waited for ages and so excited.
s My hair is similar to this, but awful condition.

LostStars39 · 16/04/2019 13:59

Do you see many customers with trichotillomania? (Where they can’t help pulling bits of hair out)
I always feel so ashamed going to the hairdressers and just try and act surprised as to why I’ve got loads of inch long clumps of hair :(

PointlessUsername · 16/04/2019 14:00

@LorelaiRoryEmily

Thank you. If i may ask another question please. My hair is quite thick, stylist will always say that i need layers but even with having different stylists i always think the layers look to choppy and you can see the lines so it almost looks asthough i have different cuts in one hairstyle iyswim.
