Since there have been a few hair related threads lately I thought people might have questions.

@sundaychiller do you have a good hairdryer? A good dryer with a narrow nozzle for concentrated airflow and a decent round brush. A nice sized one. Most people use way too small. Also for fine hair a styling product and light finishing spray are your friend. Fine hair needs help to stay put!

@slowdownplease oh god I’d just take them away from other clients, quickly explain that there’s something that I think is lice, tell them how to treat and offer to reschedule. And reassure them that it’s not a big deal!

@pointlessusername you need someone who is better with their scissors. Layers should blend into your hair, not stand out and look like another haircut on their own. Long, blunt cut, square layers are what I’d give you

@Romanyqueen1 wow! I’d love that myself!! Very few colours actuallybwash our. Almost none apart from toners. Anyone who tells you they will is lying. At least you know now.

Come back and post a pic when it’s done!

Thanks for the reply I was thinking of changing my hairdryer as I used a better one in a hotel recently. Can you recommend one please and a brush thats not too expensive, cant afford a dyson! my hair is shoulder length.

Thanks very much

@Loststars39 I have one client who has it. She’s very young and has only inch long hair on the top of her head. My heart breaks for her. She just can’t stop. I help her by looking after the long hair she still has and helping her to maintain her wigs when necessary.
I give her appts when there’s no one else in the salon and I never comment on it. We both know it’s there and we both know why and I’m not judging her or anyone in the same situation.
It’s heartbreaking and makes me wish I could fix it for them.

I understand too it’s very difficult to explain it and if I saw it in someone who hadn’t told me I would make no comment on the shorter hair.

Don’t be ashamed. No decent hairdresser would think anything of it at all. Flowers

@sundaychiller personally I don’t rate the dyson at all. Wouldn’t waste my money on it. Parlux 3200 compact, about €100 here. I know it’s a lot but my mother still uses my first one, it’s 20 years old! And for brushes do you have salon services? Or anything like it? Heat retainers, they’re usually black handle and silver barrel, all sizes under €10 great brushes last years. I use them in the salon

I have very thick, wavy hair which used to grow fairly quickly. I changed my hairdresser a couple of years ago and since then my hair doesn't seem to grow quickly at all. Sometimes when I go she just trims my fringe so as not to take any more length off the ends. Is there anything I can do to encourage my hair to grow as I would love it longer as I find the weight makes my hair less frizzy. Thanks

Alienspaceship · 16/04/2019 14:24

I have long hair highlighted blonde for Zfew years. I’m growing it out to change it to balayage. How long should I grow it out for before booking an appointment?

EyeDrops · 16/04/2019 14:30

Can I ask another lice question please? Blush
Do you have any tips or tricks for effectively nit-combing your own hair? I've used hedrin once twice (a week apart) and combed through with nitty gritty, so I'm pretty sure I got everything... unfortunately I had a really dry/flaky scalp after a shampoo change so I'm not even 100% sure I had them (suspected because of DD) or if that was causing the itching.

Anyway, as DD is in preschool and has long curly hair, I'm sure it'll happen over the years. I'm fine doing hers, but how can I do my own thoroughly?? It's very thick and below my shoulders, and I don't trust DH to be thorough enough!

LorelaiRoryEmily · 16/04/2019 14:31

@imjustagirlwhobakes B vitamins are your friend. You could be lacking in some of those. They generally help with hair growth. That’s really the only thing you can do. Unless you’re on medication for anything that could inhibit hair growth

I dye my hair auburn but it looks mostly brown until it fades to the gingery shade I love, but by then have to get it redone because of my roots. My hairdresser always replies with "yeah but I'd have to bleach it" when I say I'd like it the shade it fades to. Any idea why she is so reluctant? Would it be crazy damaging or something? She is really not keen but I'm sick of leaving with brown hair! Angry

LorelaiRoryEmily · 16/04/2019 14:36

Posted too soon. If you are on any medication just check with the doctor before you take any supplements

What are your (and hairdressers in general) views on no/low ‘poo?
and also using alternative (food stuff ingredients) to wash hair in the place of shampoo?

I’ve heard hairdressers really look down on it and find it all a bit Hmm

LorelaiRoryEmily · 16/04/2019 14:37

@alienspaceship if you could manage about 4/5 inches of root it would give them a great base to start from but as little as 3 it’s still possible to do

Russell19 · 16/04/2019 14:46

Is it considered rude to just ask for a wet cut? I like finishing my hair myself as it has a LOT of curl and strength. Hairdressers seem to be too delicate with it xx

LorelaiRoryEmily · 16/04/2019 14:46

@eyedrops oh poor you doing your own! Teeny tiny sections. A centimetre at a time, a really fine tooth comb and if you could position 2 mirrors that you can see the back of your head. Make sure all your head is covered with whatever you’re using and ask DH to check if you’ve missed any

OP posts:
LorelaiRoryEmily · 16/04/2019 14:48

@Lashesz you’ve got yourself a lazy hairdresser or one seriously lacking in colour knowledge. You do not have to bleach for that kind of colour. Post a pic of your current colour and your desired shade and I’ll tell you how to get there!

OP posts:
LorelaiRoryEmily · 16/04/2019 14:52

@jollyandbright I’m very much of the each to their own way of thinking. As long as your hair is clean I don’t think it matters how it’s achieved. I’d rather a client who used alternative methods than one who just doesn’t clean their hair at all.
I have a client who comes in once a year for a cut and Blowdry and she doesn’t look after it herself. Which means when I Blowdry it, it absolutely stinks and it makes me want to throw a op. It fills my salon with smelly steam and it’s just unpleasant.

So I’m not bothered what you wash your hair with just please wash it🤣🤣

Out of interest what foodstuff would you use?

PencilFace · 16/04/2019 14:53

Would you recommend balayage, highlights or babylights to lighten light/golden brown fine hair in a natural looking way?

LorelaiRoryEmily · 16/04/2019 14:54

@Russell19 I’ve always believed that curly haired people manage their own hair far better than any hairdresser can so I’d say no. Absolutely not rude at all. I’d cut it for you and then let you do whatever you wanted to finish it yourself and I’d make sure to provide any products you might want or need

OP posts:
LorelaiRoryEmily · 16/04/2019 14:55

@pencilface I’d recommend really fine scattered hilites if you want it to look natural

Do you judge of people don’t wash their hair before coming? I don’t mean greasy hair you could fry chips on but a few days since last wash. I go to the hairdressers to get my hair washed so I never wash it just before but I saw an anon post on a fb group where a hairdresser said they all gossip about customers who do this Blush
