What happened to the chicken and bacon sandwich? It was my favourite. I know the baguette version is pretty much the same but I preferred the sandwich lol

Ages ago I had a blueberry doughnut from Greggs
White icing, purple stripes, blueberry jam
It was the best doughnut I ever had, I’ve NEVER seen it again
Where’s it gone? will it be back? I NEED that doughnut!

Baconrollandalattee · 01/03/2019 21:54

The sandwiches are always changing.

That doughnut sounds amazing, I've never heard of it though. Some items do make a come back. The brownie doughnut came in, went again and now is back.

Why don’t they do bloomer bread sandwiches anymore? They were the best !

Tutulafromage · 01/03/2019 22:00

Also the vegetable pasties are horrible nowadays...the old recipe was a million times better!

Baconrollandalattee · 01/03/2019 22:01

The ham and cheese and cheese and chutney toasties are on bloomer bread.

My local Greggs is literally next door to the police station. The police officers queue up with the rest of us.

babysharkah · 01/03/2019 22:03

I would case myself as a but if a food snob but I love Greggs and don't know why it gets slated so much. Can't beat a steak bake imo or a yum yum. Do you make the sandwiches in store that must be a pita.

Starwednesday · 01/03/2019 22:03

To be fair it was probably about 5 years ago! I had a blueberry doughnut from lidls it was also amazing but that’s disappeared now as well 😭

Baconrollandalattee · 01/03/2019 22:06

Yes the sandwiches are made in store by the sandwich makers in the morning and then if we run out later on whoever is in makes more.

I'm a huge fan of the ham roll and Mexican chicken oval. In fact there's not a lot I'm not a fan of!

ssd · 01/03/2019 22:13

What hours and times do you work

MsFenellaFielding · 01/03/2019 22:15

In the 80s I worked in the Wimpy opposite Carricks or Greggs in Eldon Square (can't remember, one was upstairs one downstairs). Carricks for chicken and mushroom pasty. Greggs for everything else.

Visited Newcastle recently and came back to the SE with 6 stotty cakes. LUSH.

Does Carricks still exist?

Baconrollandalattee · 01/03/2019 22:19

I work all different hours it changes every week. My shop is open 7-7.

Do you possess the recipe for Tottenham cake??

jcmayj · 01/03/2019 22:24

Chicken and mayo baguette is my favourite but whenever I go they always seem to have ran out Sad

Can staff make up another one if asked?

FredaFox · 01/03/2019 22:25

Salford had the 1st drive through greggs a couple of years ago

Baconrollandalattee · 01/03/2019 22:27

No I don't have the recipe sorry.

Yes we are always making extra sandwiches for people. It happens all the time. As long as we have the ingredients it's fine.

OP posts:
ssd · 01/03/2019 22:29

I only ever see greggs advertising for staff on 16 hrs a week over 4 days here, is that normal

jcmayj · 01/03/2019 22:29

@Baconrollandalattee whenever I ask they always say no if it's not there then we don't have it!

Baconrollandalattee · 01/03/2019 22:35

Yes that's pretty standard. We very rarely work our contracted hours though, always a lot more.

Thats really bad jc they should be making them if they're asked. We're not supposed to run out of sandwiches, if we do we are meant to make more.

Glad to hear that the food is now recycled.

My friend was an agency driver for Greg's about 6/7 years ago and they used to pick the food up every night from each shop and throw it all away in bins. They were specifically instructed not to give any to the homeless people who waited outside the shops every night.

I hope that this isn't the practice any more as it totally put me off buying food from Greg's.

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 02/03/2019 07:43

Quite enlightening to read this, thanks OP. I've always been a Gregg's snob. I used love the cheese and onion pasties though. I might be tempted back...

Baconrollandalattee · 02/03/2019 07:51

I've thought about doing one before but thought no one would be interested so I kept putting it off. I'm surprised I've had so many responses.
