I have 11, op why are you so far behind??

tryingtocatchthewind · 24/07/2018 14:18

I’m shattered with two, do you ever get to sit down?

BillywigSting · 24/07/2018 14:19

My nana had six.

What made you decide to have a big family?

I'm an only and so is ds, so just curious really

hannah1992 · 24/07/2018 14:21

Do you manage 1 on 1 time with them all? How old are they?

My friend has 5 between 1 and 13 she says it’s stressful and great at the same time. At home it’s stressful but on holidays it’s great as the older ones are happy to play with the younger ones and build sandcastles and things which means she can watch and relax a bit

A lack of beds

Occasionally, in fact I'm sitting down right now. Some days are a more hectic than others, this has been a quiet one so far

I come from quite a big family myself, it was always a bit insane but fun growing up. I simply liked the thought of having a big close family

Are you having any more or is your TV fixed now? Grin

crayoladreamz · 24/07/2018 14:33

What are their ages? Why 6 and not more?

Mishappening · 24/07/2018 14:34

How do you find the time to create any more children?

juneau · 24/07/2018 14:36

How do you manage with the logistics? I have two and find school runs, after school clubs, play dates, birthday parties, etc, a hard enough. If I had even more more DC they I think I'd go insane!

Also - the expense! With six you must drive a tank and any day out (bar a picnic in the park), must be ruinous. Are you well off, or just happy to make do with simple pleasures?

Readyfortheschoolhols · 24/07/2018 14:36

What's the most common response op? An odd woman, well known in our town, once told me I should have kept my fucking legs shut on the bus.
I learned to drive.

Sarcy · 24/07/2018 14:40

They're 13, 12, 10, 8, 5 and 3. They aren't always all at home, my 10 year old and 5 year old go to school whilst my 13, 12 and 8 year old are homeschooled and my 3 year old starts nursery in september. So they're not all at home at once most the time, some are at clubs and sports or friend's houses. It's not always easy to have one on one time, especially now it's the summer holidays but I think I'm quite good at keeping on top of how they all are, whether they might need some time with just me or DH and so on.

That’s interesting op, why have you decided to homeschool half the kids?

thereareflowersinmygarden · 24/07/2018 14:51

Were they all planned?

ProustianMadeleine · 24/07/2018 14:52

We have 6 as well OP.

It's chaos sometimes but glorious all the time. Everyone's different but equally fantastic. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Sarcy · 24/07/2018 14:55

All of them were homeschooled up until January this year. I thought maybe my 5 year old would benefit more from going to school, she was doing really well with homeschooling but it was more about the social aspect. After coming to pick and drop her off everyday for awhile my 10 year old decided she wanted to try school out too and they've both been going since. I decided to homeschool my oldest not long before she was due to start school, they have the choice whether they want to go or not and the 3 who don't i feel will probably not want to go at all

The TV is deffiently fixed now Grin I think I'd be more open to the idea of having more if we lived in a bigger house, there's only 3 bedrooms

Do you have boys, girls or both and how well do they get on with eachother?

Sarcy · 24/07/2018 14:59

They sleep from time to time

OP, I feel like we should be friends. :) I have 6 children as well, ages 15, 13, 11, 8, 4 and 1. We used to homeschool as well, with them all returning to school in dribs and drabs - having one foot in and one foot out of the school system felt like the worst of both worlds, tbh.

Sometimes I feel overwhelmed and wonder what I've done, but mostly it's just normal. We are lucky to have a 6 bedroom house (with a defunct 2nd bathroom that we will turn into a 7th bedroom eventually) so we don't really feel crowded.

I drive a minibus, though, and we get attention wherever we go. (lots of double-takes...)

elliejjtiny · 24/07/2018 15:07

What car do you drive?
Do you have a housework routine?
What kind of things do you do in the school holidays?

I have 5 and am hoping to pick up tips from this thread!

clairethewitch70 · 24/07/2018 15:08

You would have more if you lived in a bigger house? You could always convert the loft Grin

Susannach · 24/07/2018 15:13

Do you like all of their names equally? I think I’d run out after the first 2 or 3!

Sarcy · 24/07/2018 15:25

Were they all planned?
Yeah
