Celebrity Nanny here

Noticed the trend of career threads recently so thought I'd join in, always get loads of questions when my job comes up on here.

I'm a Nanny/Governess specialising in High Net Worth/ViP families - happy to answer any questions Smile

Do they spend much time with their children?

It varies from family to family but in my experience, no not really. The last family I worked for perhaps saw their kids for an hour or two a day (SAHM).
Every single on of my placements has had the Dad working away the majority of the time.

Does fame go to their head? 😅 Hard to say. I have a friend who works for one of the spice girls and the word "diva" is apt there. I find the extremely wealthy families generally have high expectations and perhaps unrealistic ones at times.

Yes, my second to last placement was in a Palace with 6 (!!!) swimming pools, saunas, two gyms and two cinemas. I'm sure I was the only one allowed to use them. But I only ever did when I was sure I wasn't going to be in the way.

I recently transitioned from Nanny to Governess. I have a degree in Child Psychology and extensive tutoring experience but not QTS, I was going to do my teacher training but now that would just mean another year at uni and I'm already getting the job offers.

Ooh this is interesting! How common is it for the mums to have surgery after giving birth? Tummy tucks etc? I’m always in awe of all these well off people who seem to have super human bodies where the weight falls off in less than a month.

My last role was 24/6, my new one is 10hrs 6 days a week but usually they are 40-50 hour weeks (for Governess roles) , I chose the last jobs as I wanted to go to those countries.

Is your pay good?

My last role was £1450 a week net, this current role is £1200 net but fewer hours and I REALLY want to go to the country

Do you ever get expensive gifts?

Yes Smile usually jewellery or perfume, I've had some really lovely generous families.

Do the parents tend to have good relationships with their children? And do they want to be an active parent or are you often seen as a surrogate parent. A round about way of asking if the kids are off loaded onto you whilst the parents are not actually that present for them...

Once or twice but I shut it down, plus I'm there for the kids so don't see the parents (particularly the Dads) that often and there's rarely the opportunity.

Most families I've worked for are born into it or have been in it for years so whilst I would find it horrendous, they don't seem to mind. The pressure to look good is really high and a lot of the women don't seem genuinely happy, but that's my own observations.

Yes I do, though we rarely get to see each other. I actually did a trial with one friends boss (a lot of these jobs have multiple nannies) and I can say that a member of the middle Eastern royal family was by far the worst. She was a nutter.
The best is subjective, I had the best pay but my friend had a family that really respected and loved her so it depends.

How common is it for the mums to have surgery after giving birth? I genuinely don't know as it doesn't tend to come up but I've found that almost all families I've worked for have had c section births, I've no idea whether that's just coincidence.

I know some will spend lots of time with their children but you have confirmed something I've often thought about 'celebs'. They're 'papped' often out for lunch, at parties, on day trips/weekends away etc. People stick up for them saying they're earning their money and just 'having fun'. But at what cost? Spending 1-2 hours a day with your child, how sad.

Im always chatty and friendly but don't like to risk overstepping the mark so will choose to keep a difference.

Do they make it very clear you're staff? not so much with me but I've worked for people who actually click their fingers at other staff.

Absolutely. Luckily I have really great friends who understand and I try my hardest to make time for them when I'm back in the country and we talk a lot via WhatsApp etc.
I've dated casually but I'm finding a FWB situation with an ex Blush Blush is tiding me over right now

Again, depends on the family but I often see families who have children for show and don't seem interested in them which is crushing. But it would be unfair to use that as a sweeping generalisation.

Oooo let me have a think because there are loads. I see the husbands naked far too often, to the point I think it must be deliberate as I'm certainly not seeking it out.
One Mum used to ritually flush out her nose twice daily with salt water in front of me.

No, families typically have a very high turnover of staff so I doubt they'd recognise me even if I posted something revealing.
