Noticed the trend of career threads recently so thought I'd join in, always get loads of questions when my job comes up on here.

I'm a Nanny/Governess specialising in High Net Worth/ViP families - happy to answer any questions Smile

Have you ever been papped and seen your picture online or in print?

Do the parents take the babies/kids from you when the paps show up for "show"?

mnahmnah · 03/07/2018 21:47

Have you ever been really sad to leave a placement? Really liked the family?

Equally, have you ever really hated a family, or had awful children?

cherrytrees123 · 03/07/2018 21:47

Has there ever been an occasion when you really disagree with the parents about a particular issue? If so, did you make a stand? Do you ever disagree with their methods and say so?

CrackingEggs · 03/07/2018 21:47

Do you prepare food for your charges, or is there someone else to do that?

NapQueen · 03/07/2018 21:48

Where does nanny rank in the heirarch of the rich family's staff?

AnotherCareerThread · 03/07/2018 21:50

Do you work all over the world, and do you get to travel where they travel?

Yes. I've been to 20 countries with my job so far.

Have you been on a private jet? yes and some are a lot fancier than others! I went on one where my seat converted into the toilet Confused

Do they put you in first class with them, or do you travel cattle class? Both, one particularly delightful family would put me with three kids in cattle whilst Mum and Dad flew 1st.

HAVe you suspected gender selection ivf with celebs?

Not that I've seen, and if i have I don't want to know!!

Do the parents take the babies/kids from you when the paps show up for "show"?
Yes

Have you ever been really sad to leave a placement? Really liked the family? yes, I always love the children so it's really sad. The parents less so 😑

Equally, have you ever really hated a family, or had awful children? Yep! I find the issue is always the parents with the bad jobs but one exception was looking after one boy who was absolutely awful, I have scars on my hand where he attacked me.

Has there ever been an occasion when you really disagree with the parents about a particular issue? If so, did you make a stand? Do you ever disagree with their methods and say so?
I once had a parent arrested for child abuse Sad so yes.
Most of the time I will do what I'm told unless I feel it threatens the childrens safety or wellbeing.

Do you prepare food for your charges, or is there someone else to do that?
Yes, though most families have a Private Chef or two. Last family I worked for had a chef which a Michelin star - that was GREAT!!

Where does nanny rank in the heirarch of the rich family's staff? in my experience very highly normally top or even with the Butlers, for example. Though sadly in some other countries this is dependant on ethnicity Sad

Do you sign a non disclosure contract (you were cagey on the RF) and have you ever seen/heard anything you really really want to tell us in strictest confidence?

AnotherCareerThread · 03/07/2018 21:57

HAVe you suspected gender selection ivf with celebs? yes, and choosing twins and choosing birthdays!

AnotherCareerThread · 03/07/2018 21:59

Do you sign a non disclosure contract (you were cagey on the RF) and have you ever seen/heard anything you really really want to tell us in strictest confidence? yes with most families and yes, the things I want to share!

OP posts:
LadyLauraOver · 03/07/2018 22:00

Oooh go on share! We won't tell anyone...

Thetruthfairy · 03/07/2018 22:02

How long do you think you will continue to work as a celeb nanny?

Would you be able to do your job and have a family of your own?

AnotherCareerThread · 03/07/2018 22:03

LadyLauraOver Grin not worth my job!

SoftSheen · 03/07/2018 22:03

How long do you typically spend with each family? Do children find it difficult having a high turnover of staff?

Geraniumsunset · 03/07/2018 22:04

What’s the typical age of the nanny/governess?

Tartyflette · 03/07/2018 22:04

OP when I read just the thread title I thought you were Jo Frost.... [blush

AnotherCareerThread · 03/07/2018 22:05

How long do you think you will continue to work as a celeb nanny? until I want to have my own children really, it's very good money so I'm stockpiling and then will live off that when I'm ready.

It is technically possible to do the job and have a family but it's very very hard and I'd never see them. The pay is high because you have to commit your full time and energy

OP posts:
Sara107 · 03/07/2018 22:05

You mention these sort of families tend to have a high staff turnover, why? If it's all so great why would staff not want to stay?
I find it a bit sad tbh to have so much money and not raise your own children - I have a manager at work whose children are raised by a nanny and I just wonder what the point of the children is in her life!

Tartyflette · 03/07/2018 22:05

Blush fail Blush again

cherrytrees123 · 03/07/2018 22:06

What is it about the good parents that you appreciate? Is it the way they treat you, the children or your conditions of work? What is most important to you?
Have you ever worked for a public figure who is very different in private to their public image?

NapQueen · 03/07/2018 22:06

Do the parents get arsey if the kids get messy?

AssassinatedBeauty · 03/07/2018 22:08

Have you done controlled crying with babies under 6 months?

Do you find it hard to work for people who are uninterested in their children, but who put on a show for the public?

AnotherCareerThread · 03/07/2018 22:08

How long do you typically spend with each family? Do children find it difficult having a high turnover of staff? 6 to 12 months has been my average. The children get a bit numb to it I think but I think it can severely affect their future relationships. One little girl (4) that I worked with briefly had a frightening disassociation with those around her. But that's an extreme case.

What’s the typical age of the nanny/governess? mid to late twenties, early thirties to early forties for Governess’s. A lot of jobs specify under 35.

Do you witness domestic spats which are embarrassing?
