Due to living in a small island I'm frequently bored. Hence the thread. Grin

Is it a bit like Anne of Green Gables? Which I know was Canada not America.

Do you get good cable tv?

Is there a high school?

NotARegularPenguin · 30/06/2018 17:14

Sorry, see you answered the school question.

Is WiFi reliable?

KittyHawke80 · 30/06/2018 17:14

Do you ever solve murders too complex for Tom Bosley?

Stimmyplip · 30/06/2018 17:14

It does feel a little remote sometimes. Cabin fever is a very, very real thing.

We have a few friends here, but most of our good friends are on the mainland. We visit them and they visit us.

I'm desperate to see people in the winter and desperate for everyone to bugger off in the summer!

Dh does a bit of everything. In the winter lots of tree work and chainsawing.

In the summer he's a boat captain and manages one of the big summer houses.

I feel like it is very much like Anne of Green Gables!! I actually had a little cry in the garden last night as I felt so lucky.

I cry for very different reasons in the winter when my snot has frozen and I haven't seen anyone for days on end! Grin

Is there a public ferry type service or do you need your own boat?

ProustianMadeleine · 30/06/2018 17:16

How did you meet your husband?

MountainHedgehog · 30/06/2018 17:16

Oo I remember your post about your in laws too! You sound good!

Hmm, what do I want to ask? If someone had an accident, how long/how do you get to your nearest ER?

MissConductUS · 30/06/2018 17:17

I used to summer on an Island near Bath, ME. Lovely!

PorkyPortia · 30/06/2018 17:17

Do you have one person on your island who knows everything about everyone and just cant keep their nose out of other peoples business ?

Stimmyplip · 30/06/2018 17:17

We had appalling internet but in the last 6 months have created our own broadband network. It cost something like 4 million and our taxes raised because of it. We now have super fast fibre optic though which were hoping will attract people here!

Do you have a grass skirt?

Stimmyplip · 30/06/2018 17:18

This is a view of our garden and from the ferry.

We do have a ferry that runs several times a day but having your own boat makes life 1000000 times better and easier.

I was working for a family in London and they brought me along on their holiday. He was their boat captain. Grin

Aww sounds very romantic! In fact your whole lifestyle does. It's a dream of ours to live a life like this.

LemonySippet · 30/06/2018 17:21

Did anyone else read those Making Out YA books you used to get free on the covers of magazines back in the olden days? They were set on an island in Maine, so I feel like I know your life intimately OP Grin

Did you read them? Is it just like that? How did you end up there?

PanPanPanPing · 30/06/2018 17:21

A grass skirt, hmm?? She lives near the border with Canada. She's hardly going to be prancing around in a grass skirt - even at this time of year Grin

Stimmyplip · 30/06/2018 17:22

Hmm. Getting to the er would take us 20 minutes to get to the ferry/other boat, 15-30 minutes boat ride, 20-30 minutes car ride.

If it's urgent they would just life flight in the helicopter though.

We had a planned home birth with ds. Looking back on it now I'm ShockConfused that I had the balls!

Porky - EVERYONE knows EVERYONE'S business. You can't keep a thing secret.

And things change the more people they go through too!

It is a very different life to London. It's definitely made me a lot happier.

Weeeell, she might still have a grass skirt. I also only read the first page and decided she lives in Hawaii or somewhere like that.

Stimmyplip · 30/06/2018 17:24

I haven't read those books! I need to now!

Is it expensive to live there? Do I have to marry a local? DP would be disappointed but I think it would be worth it!

Stimmyplip · 30/06/2018 17:25

People here think I have odd dress sense but I think a grass skirt would be a bit much even for me. Grin
