Due to living in a small island I'm frequently bored. Hence the thread. Grin

Bath is lovely. I've not spent much time there though.

The town names here make me chuckle. Bath, Madrid, London, China.

Oh I love Maine! We used to summer on Biddeford Pool and I went to Bowdoin. If you ever drive through Brunswick, will you climb onto the polar bear statue outside Moulton Union and give him a big hug from me? Grin

Some things are more expensive. Petrol is so so much cheaper. Good food I think is about the same as London.

Bartering is popular here. So we'll barter eggs, flowers, veg, maple syrup and Dh working for other things we need.

Have you met John Travolta?

Stimmyplip · 30/06/2018 17:30

Bowdoin? Smarty pants then? Grin

I'm hoping ds will go there lol. Or Colby or Bates or somewhere ON THE EAST COAST.

You forgot the towns of Poland, Norway and York

Stimmyplip · 30/06/2018 17:31

I haven't! Dh has quite a bit though. And we have his old cooker lol!

He was in tj Maxx last summer five minutes before me. I was so annoyed I'd missed him!

Kirsty Alley is around a lot. Not quite as exciting. We have her old three piece suite haha!

OP are you also having a Hot and humid day, I am guessing I am about 2ish hours from you and we just hit 94F

DarlingNikita · 30/06/2018 17:33

It sounds beautiful. I've only been to mainland Maine but it was gorgeous.

Is there wildlife? What kind?

DreamingofSunshine · 30/06/2018 17:33

What do you think is the key to enjoying island life?

Cheesymonster · 30/06/2018 17:34

You fell in love with the boat captain whilst on holiday and now live on a secluded island - there’s your film plot right there!

Cheesymonster · 30/06/2018 17:34

Have you ever bumped into Stephen King?

Stimmyplip · 30/06/2018 17:34

Dh digging the tractor out mid bloody March.

I suspect Kursk gets a lot more snow than us though...

We were closer to Wiscasset but did our shopping in Bath at Shaw's.

My DS is about to head off to college in Beverly, Mass. There are tons of good colleges in MA.

I'm a New Yorker, so not that far from ME.

anotherpersona · 30/06/2018 17:36

Awe struck - Kirsty Alley's sofa !!

Stimmyplip · 30/06/2018 17:36

It's humid but not too hot on the coast today. It's about 73/21 today. It always amazes me that we can be 10 degrees cooler than friends 4 miles away in the summer and 10 degrees hotter in the winter!

For some reason your thread has made me tearful. Maybe because you mentioned Anne of Green Gables, which always makes me well up - like you're living a life that time forgot - and that very few people in the UK live.

My question is - where do your family live, assuming you have close family still knocking around? Sometimes I think I would love live somewhere like this, but truth is, I'd miss my family & friends too much. DH and I both originate from the same area - and live nearby now -despite meeting at uni hundreds of miles away Grin We regularly fantasise about emigrating over a glass of wine though.

Kursk · 30/06/2018 17:38

This was the result of our March storm. 3-5ft of snow in a winter is normal.

Stimmyplip · 30/06/2018 17:39

Island wildlife is a little different to the mainland. We don't have grey squirrels, just red.

We don't have skunks, raccoons, porcupines, rats, foxes or possums.

We do have a shit ton of deer and occasionally a moose will swim over.

We also have a very bad tick problem. With it lots of illnesses.

Dh get lymes about 2-5 times each year. Kids here learn early not to play in leaves, stay out of long grass etc. It's terrifying.

Wow, Kursk - whereabouts are you? If you don't mind saying, that is.

MissConductUS · 30/06/2018 17:39

Your garden is lovely, but I had to open the thread on my iPhone to see the picture. The tractor picture shows up just fine though.

I miss Maine, but I never had to spend the winter there. We have hard winters here in the Hudson Valley, but not like yours.

Apropos of nothing at all, here's a picture of a flowering cactus in my garden. Grin

ToeToToe · 30/06/2018 17:40

Sorry OP< my question is where are your family, and how often do you get to see them (assuming you have other family).

Stimmyplip · 30/06/2018 17:40

The key to enjoying it is not to sweat the small stuff. And to get thicker skin. Neither of which I've fully managed yet!!

And to go with the old Mainer's saying 'it is what it is'. V passive aggressive, just like a lot of Mainers lol!

Stimmyplip · 30/06/2018 17:41

It would be a boring film now haha.
