Due to living in a small island I'm frequently bored. Hence the thread. Grin

Bumping this up as I fly to Boston in a few days. Decided to drive up to Camden then staying at Kennebunkport on the way back down.

If you are still reading Stimmy I just wondered what the colours are like in the area at the moment? I see the temperatures are about to drop at the weekend. Mind you I think winter has arrived in Scotland so I am sure we will cope.

Have you been to the Penobscot Narrows Bridge? Is it worth the journey?

fifithefoof · 09/10/2018 21:35

@Belindabelle hi. Stimmy with a nc. The colours on the coast are turning now, I'd say next week and the week after is peak time!!! You're in for a treat!

It's been bloody cold but today it's been 24!! You just can't tell with the sodding weather here in October.

We're in Camden now and drove up Mount Battie state park (just 10 minutes north). There are great walks up there and the view, especially at this tome of year is absolutely AMAZING.

I'm not sure if the bridge is worth the drive. I've never been over it though, gone under it in a boat plenty!

Where are you staying in Camden? Make sure you book for Long Grain way ahead of time if you want to eat there as they're still super busy!

Belindabelle · 09/10/2018 22:53

We plan to go to Mount Battie. May even walk it!
Just staying at the Riverhouse as plan to be out and about and I wanted to keep my money to spend on other things like dinner at the Long Grain.

fifithefoof · 10/10/2018 00:02

@Belindabelle Riverhouse is lovely! We either stay there or Lord Camden Inn (which is stupidly expensive now).

They do a little bonfire with s'mores in the garden every night. The bridge in to town is lovely. The coffee is awful but the best place for breakfast by far is on the Main Street called Boynton Mackey. River house do breakfast but there's no bacon. They do have a waffle maker though!

fifithefoof · 10/10/2018 00:03

@Belindabelle if you pm me your name and when you'd like a reservation at Long Grain I'd be happy to do it for you. Smile

Belindabelle · 10/10/2018 08:16

That is so kind fifi but DH assures me he has it all in hand.

I am so pleased to hear that the Riverhouse is lovely. I tend to think that less expensive places won't be very good but it was so much cheaper I decided it worth the risk.

So nice to see this thread pop back up! waves from New York

We've been up north of Boston a couple of weeks ago for parents weekend at DS's university. They even did a lobster dinner for us.

Hope you're well Stim/fifthefoof. Smile

fifithefoof · 11/10/2018 18:37

@Belindabelle it's not as fancy as the others but they really are not worth the ridiculous price tag.

And the Riverhouse is the only one in town with a pool.

fifithefoof · 11/10/2018 18:38

@MissConductUS Hi! Hope you're well too! How's NY right now? It was almost 80 degrees here yesterday and today is freezing again!

MissConductUS · 11/10/2018 20:20

@fifithefoof Hi yourself! NY is wet and gloomy but the leaves are just starting to change, so not all bad. We had to turn on the aircon yesterday too.

I was just thinking about this thread. We’re thinking about heading to Portland next weekend, DD is coming over from the UK. Any suggestions of where to stay, eat and also vintage clothes shopping? I
