Woman wearing a onesie

Crime against fashion or the best thing since pyjamas? Whichever way you lean on the great onesie debate, you can’t argue with their cosy appeal. Like a dressing gown without the draft, onesies are a complete outfit in one - perfect for relaxing at home.

If you’re off camping or your heating’s on the fritz, a fleece onesie will stop you from freezing your proverbials off. So even if you’re not a dedicated onesie fan, it’s a good idea to have one in your pyjama drawer just in case.

We’ve assembled the best onesies the internet has to offer, from the sublime to the ridiculous. So put your feet up and enjoy.

Here are the best women's onesies to buy in 2021.

1. Best overall women’s onesie: Next Leopard Print Onesie

Leopard print women's onesie

Price: £36 | Buy now from Next

"Mine is a furry one - from Next - ha! - and it's like being inside a teddy. It's comforting to snuggle into at the end of a stressful day. It's a bit like a relaxing bath but for the whole evening. It's a kind of signifier - mum has 'clocked off'. I have a fleecy dressing gown but the onesie is much better as it keeps my legs warm and doesn't gape alarmingly when I'm only wearing underwear under it. So it's a comfort thing for me. Like a hug or chocolate" - LetsFaceThePresentsTheyrePants

Super soft and super comfy, this leopard print onesie from Next is a brilliant all-rounder. It’s machine washable, available in both standard and tall sizes, and there are even matching kids’ ones, so you can kit out the whole family if you’re that way inclined. This onesie runs small, so it’s best to size up for a roomy, slouchy fit. We love the large print, stretchy cuffs and the fact that it has pockets.

  • Material: Polyester
  • Size range: XS - XXL Tall

2. Best budget women’s onesie: Dunelm Teddy Bear Onesie

Dunelm women's onesie

Price: £20 | Buy now from Dunelm

"I'm a size 8 and about 5 ft 5/6 but I bought a L/XL size onesie from Dunelm. It's awesome" - teetotalling

This cute and cosy onesie from Dunelm is a snip at only £20. With a hood and ears to complete the look, this is the perfect outfit for lounging. Available in navy, pink, charcoal and grey, it’s machine washable but tumble drying isn’t recommended. Sadly this one doesn’t have pockets, but at least it'll keep you super toasty.

Key specs

  • Material: Polyester
  • Size range: 8-18

3. Warmest women’s onesie: Heat Treats Sherpa Fleece Onesie

Heat Treat women's onesie

Price: £22 | Buy now from Amazon

"Love mine and would wear it everywhere if I could. I don't really give a stuff how I look in it as that isn't really the point of them" - LetsFaceThePresentsTheyrePants

Made from thick sherpa fleece, this onesie from Heat Treats is seriously warm. If you’re looking to save on your heating bills this winter, this snuggly onesie is a smart investment. Available in grey, mint and black it doesn’t have pockets but we think it would make a perfect camping outfit or WFH get-up for days with no Zoom meetings. Featuring a hood with teddy bear ears and stretchy cuffs at the wrists and ankles, this onesie is packed with heat-saving details.

Key specs

  • Material: Polyester
  • Size range: S-XL

4. Best soft women’s onesie: Boohoo Luxury Fleece Onesie

Boohoo women's onesie

Price: £32 | Buy now from Boohoo

"I bought a grey one from Boohoo. They do taller women’s clothes and check eBay because they sell on there but for cheaper" - MashedSpud

"I get cold in bed some nights in spite of having a 17.5 tog duvet. Onesie and thermal vest for me! So cosy. It is a bit cold to strip off for a wee but not slow, as mine has a zip, easy access! I haven't worn it outside yet but have been so tempted in the morning" - Hobbitation

Boohoo’s onesies are the softest we’ve seen. If you’re looking for a soft onesie with a hood but don’t fancy animal ears (it’s surprisingly difficult to find a onesie with one but not the other) - check out this cloud print style. It’s machine washable, and the legs have a lovely roomy cut for a super comfortable fit. This one does have pockets, but they’re quite high up on the body for our liking.

Key specs

  • Material: Polyester
  • Size range: S-XL

5. Best patterned women’s onesie: Camille Supersoft Heart Print Onesie

Camille women's onesie

Price: £30 | Buy now from Amazon

"I'm wearing mine now, its ace. Sooooo comfy. It’s not sexy, but oh, it’s lush" - BlameItOnTheChoirOfAngels

This cute heart print onesie is made from gloriously soft fleece inside and out. It doesn’t have any pockets, but what it lacks in practicality it makes up for in prettiness. Another style with an animal ears-free hood, the material is lovely and thick and the wrist and ankle cuffs are soft and comfy.

Key specs

  • Material: Polyester
  • Size range: S-L

6. Best novelty women’s onesie: Taigood Animal Onesie

Animal women's onesie

Price: £18 | Buy now from Amazon

"Seeing people in animal onesies brightens my day. I don't have one, but if they'd been around when I was at uni, I'd probably have gone to lectures in one. I think they're fun! Though, if I could get away with fancy dress every day I would" - IncrediblePhatTheInnKeepersCat

With a dizzying array of animal styles available - from frog to kangaroo to shark to unicorn - fancy dress has never been easier or comfier. While most Mumsnetters would baulk at wearing any onesie out of the house, these fun, fuzzy outfits from Taigood are gloriously and unapologetically bad taste.

Key specs

  • Material: Polyester
  • Size range: S-XL

7. Best matching onesies: Hatley Fuzzy Family Jumpsuits

Hatley women's onesie

Price: £35 | Buy now from Amazon

"Hatley do really nice ones but they do cost a lot when you’re buying a few sets"

"We don't do fancy advents (old school chocolates for us ) or Christmas Eve boxes but we do matching Christmas PJs on Christmas Eve because the kids think it's the best thing ever" - Andbreatheout

For a perfect family Christmas card photo, matching onesies are a must. These ones from Hatley have a tasteful bear print that could be worn all year round and suit any age. They’ve got pockets and long ribbed cuffs so you can easily size up for a roomy fit without baggy wrists and ankles. The polyester fleece is lovely and soft, and it’s suitable for machine washing at 30C. Hatley is known for its patterned PJs, and many Mumsnetters are fans of their kids’ sleepwear.

Key specs

  • Material: Polyester
  • Size range: XS - XL

8. Best cotton women’s onesie: Merry Style Toucan Print Onesie

Toucan women's onesie

Price: £34 | Buy now from Amazon

"I bought a jersey onesie for my hen do, which was a camping weekend. It was amazing" - CurlsLDN

If fleecy onesies are a bit too warm for you, a cotton one provides all the comfort you’d expect, while allowing your skin to breathe. A cotton onesie is also a great option for those with sensitive skin and committed onesie fans as summer nightwear. We love this toucan patterned one by Merry Style, which also comes in a bow or a Christmas present print and has pockets. It’s got a popper fastening, which makes it slower to put back on after a trip to the loo, so a thermal vest underneath is a good idea in chillier months.

Key specs

  • Material: Cotton
  • Size range: S-XXL

9. Best stylish women’s onesie: Hush V-neck Supersoft Onesie

Hush women's onesie

Price: £69 | Buy now from Hush

"A Hush onesie and PJs ... so so cosy and happy to say hello to friends at the door in them" - loveyouradvice

If you thought there was no such thing as a onesie you’d be seen in public wearing, think again. This one from Hush is soft and roomy enough for loafing around the house, but cool and stylish enough to be worn outside. Available in charcoal or grey marl, it also has two generous slouchy pockets. Made from eco-friendly viscose which is produced using sustainable wood sources, it’s kind to the planet too.

Key specs

  • Material: Viscose, polyester and elastane
  • Size range: XXS-XL

10. Best slim fit women’s onesie: Sweaty Betty Luxe Fleece Jumpsuit

Sweaty Betty women's onesie

Price: £165 | Buy now from Sweaty Betty

"It is my favourite thing in the whole world. It's warm, cosy, comfy and is worn every single day. I wear it as soon as I get home in the evening with a vest/t-shirt and knickers underneath. I don't sleep in it...too warm. But it goes straight back on in the morning until I get showered" - chimchar

Made from 45% recycled cotton fleece, this slim fit onesie from Sweaty Betty is a luxurious option. It’s gathered at the waist so it’s the least onesie-looking onesie on our list, and it’s available in chic black or plum red. Perfect for wearing around the house and easily nice enough to wear outside too, although the lack of fastenings combined with the slim fit make it slightly awkward to get in and out of.

Key specs

  • Material: Cotton, acrylic and elastane
  • Size range: XS - XXL

How to buy the best women’s onesie

If you’re looking for soft and fuzzy, polyester fleece is your best bet for value and comfort. Go up a price bracket for breathable cotton blend fleece. For a slouchy, comfy fit it’s best to go up a size.

Are onesies pyjamas or lounge wear?

They’re something in between. If you get very cold at night, they can be worn for sleeping, but most onesie-wearing Mumsnetters love them as loungewear around the house, opting for pyjamas when it’s time for bed.

What is the best women’s onesie to buy?

Next’s fleecy leopard print onesie is our pick as the best women’s onesie, because it ticks all the boxes for style, quality and comfort - plus it has pockets.

How we chose our recommendations

Because we know that there’s nothing like a real recommendation, we first headed to the Mumsnet forums to find out what onesies were being recommended.

We then did some research across the wider web, looking at which onesies had won accolades or been featured in ‘best buy’ lists across websites, and what customer reviews said about them. Having collated all that information, we then narrowed our list down to the top 10 onesies online at the moment.
