"Another vote for the Vileda Turbo mop, the spin function leaves floors quite dry, and the mop head can go in the machine.” Tried and tested by Mumsnet user DespairingHomeowner

Our verdict

Mopping maestros Vileda know a thing or two about keeping floors sparkling clean. And with the Vileda Turbo they proved that sometimes you really can’t beat a good old-fashioned mop and bucket combo.

Of all the mops I have tested to date, the Vileda Turbo Microfibre Mop and Bucket Set produced the best clean. The spinning pedal-activated wringer managed to squeeze all the excess water out, so there was no risk of over-wetting the floor.

The Vileda Turbo Microfibre Mop and Bucket Set has been rated top mop by our Mumsnet users and sits at the very pinnacle of our best floor mops round-up. And as far as I am concerned, it more than deserves its place as Mumsnet's best overall floor mop. All hail the Vileda Turbo!

What’s in the box?

vileda-turbo-review-2.jpg
  • Bucket

  • Telescopic handle

  • Plastic floor head

  • Microfibre mop head

How does it feel to hold?

The mop felt comfortable to hold and with a telescopic handle that can be adjusted between 85 and 123 cm, this makes mopping much kinder on the back. The sturdy bucket has a chunky lengthways handle, which makes it easier to balance the bucket when it is full of water. An integrated front spout minimises the risk of splashing when the water is poured away.

What’s the Vileda Turbo like to assemble?

The Vileda Turbo was an absolute doddle to put together, with no tools, or an extra pair of hands, required.

To assemble the mop, all I had to do was twist the separate parts of the handle together. To add the microfibre mop head, I aligned the mop and the frame and pressed the two together. The bucket comes with the foot pedal and wringer already installed, with no further assembly required.

What’s the Vileda Turbo Mop and Bucket like to use day-to-day?

vileda-turbo-review-5.jpg

After giving the floor the once over with my best vacuum cleaner to remove any debris, I filled the bucket with water and my floorcare product of choice, as per the manufacturer’s instructions. However, Vileda says the Turbo mop removes over 99% of bacteria with just water, thanks to the micofibres in the mop pad. This is great news if you are not a fan of harsh chemical or strong-smelling cleaning products.

Once I had adjusted the mop to my preferred height, I dunked the floor head in the water before transferring it into the wringer. The wringer is operated by a foot pedal, which required just a few gentle squeezes to get the wringer going impressively quickly. Unlike previous Vileda products that I’ve tested, which have proved to be a little on the stiff side when setting up or using for the first time, the wringer was firing on all cylinders from the very first pump. The bucket includes an integrated barrier to prevent splashes when wringing, so there was no chance of water being fired up my legs or all over the kitchen.

After just a couple of foot pumps, the mop came out the spinner. There was no excess water dripping all over the floor and although it was wetter than a couple of sprays from the average spray mop, it was not enough to risk warping the laminate, although it did mean a longer drying time.

I do like a good spray mop for convenience's sake. But for a thorough, deep, satisfying clean, you really can't beat a good old-fashioned mop and bucket combo.

How well does the Vileda Turbo Mop clean laminate flooring?

vileda-turbo-review-3.jpg

The Vileda Turbo is a great choice for laminate flooring. I was sceptical at first about exactly how much water the wringer would remove and whether it would be able to remove enough to allow the mop to be used on laminate flooring. But the wringer managed to squeeze every last drop of excess water out, so there was no danger of over-wetting the laminate. The mop managed to dispense with all sorts of food stains, including more stubborn stains, with minimal elbow grease required.

How well does the Vileda Turbo clean tiled flooring?

The Vileda Turbo performed well on tiled flooring, leaving a streak-free finish. Although the tiled flooring in my utility room is past its best, this mop and bucket combo left it looking considerably cleaner than the spray mops that I had previously tested. The triangular-shaped mop head made it easier to get right into the hard-to-reach corners.

The Vileda Turbo Microfibre Mop and Bucket Set can also be used on parquet, ceramic tiles, and wooden flooring. The wringer allows you to judge the right amount of water to use, according to the type of floor.

How do you clean the Vileda Turbo mop head?

The mop head can be washed at a maximum temperature of 30°C, without fabric softener or bleach to avoid damaging the microfibres. To remove the mop head for cleaning, just pull it out of the frame using your hands or foot.

Vileda recommends replacing the mop head every six months in order to maintain the same cleaning power. But this depends on how often you use your mop - which is really between you and your conscience.

Does the Vileda Turbo Microfibre Mop and Bucket Set offer value for money?

Yes, I feel that the Vileda Turbo offers excellent value for money. Priced at £34 at the time of writing (August 21st, 2023) it is currently £4 less than the Vileda 1-2 Spray Mop (with one refill).

Although the Vileda 1-2 Spray offers convenience and, as it doesn’t need a bucket, it is a great choice if storage space is limited, the Vileda Turbo offers a much better clean and the mop itself feels sturdier and more durable.

All in all, the Vileda Turbo is an excellent mop and bucket set, and I have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone.
