Our verdict

The Maxi-Cosi Emerald 360 Pro is a long-term, 360-spin car seat that can take your child from newborn all the way through to around 12 years old, combining extended rear-facing travel with practical everyday features. Our parent tester Laura tried out the seat for eight weeks with her 14-month-old daughter as their main toddler car seat and came away impressed with both the design and ease of use. “We love it! The fact this can be used from newborn is also a plus,” she said.

One of the standout features is Maxi-Cosi’s SlideTech pull-out mechanism, which works alongside the 360-degree rotation. By turning the seat sideways and sliding it out towards you (it can move up to 17cm), it brings your child closer to the car door before you strap them in. Laura found this particularly helpful day-to-day, explaining that it takes the strain off your back and makes getting a wriggly toddler into the seat far easier.

In terms of design, the Emerald 360 Pro feels smart and streamlined, with the sort of sturdy build you’d expect from a seat intended to last for more than a decade. The integrated ISOFIX base means it’s designed to stay installed in the car rather than being moved between vehicles regularly, which adds to that reassuringly solid feel once it’s locked into place.

That said, although it can be used from birth, the Emerald 360 Pro is a fixed car seat and isn’t travel system compatible. In other words, it can’t be attached to a stroller and used out and about. If you have a newborn, you may find something like the Maxi-Cosi Pebble 360 Pro more convenient during those early months, as it can move straight from the car to the pushchair with car seat adapters.

Overall, Laura found the Emerald 360 Pro to be a well-designed, practical car seat that simplifies everyday journeys, particularly thanks to its sliding rotation system.

How we tested the Maxi-Cosi Emerald 360 Pro

  • Tested with a 14-month-old toddler for eight weeks

  • Used daily as the family’s primary car seat

  • Used for nursery runs and regular trips to the shops

  • Also tested on longer drives visiting family and friends

Laura tested the Maxi-Cosi Emerald 360 Pro in a range of everyday situations, from quick nursery drop-offs to longer drives visiting family and friends. It remained installed in the car throughout the testing period rather than being moved between vehicles.

Laura used both the rotation and slide feature regularly during testing, particularly when strapping in her daughter for short trips.

After testing the seat across eight key criteria – including installation, ease of use, comfort, safety and overall build quality, Laura awarded the Emerald 360 Pro 93 out of 100, reflecting how highly it scored for practicality, comfort and durability in everyday use.

What is the difference between the Maxi-Cosi Emerald and the Maxi-Cosi Emerald 360 Pro?

The main difference between the Maxi-Cosi Emerald and the Emerald 360 Pro is the SlideTech technology. While both seats have a 360-degree spin feature, the Emerald 360 Pro can also slide out towards the car door, making it much easier to lift your child in and out without leaning into the car.

Both models are designed as all-age car seats (from birth up to around 12 years), so they grow with your child in the same way. The Emerald 360 Pro simply adds the extra sliding function for improved day-to-day convenience.

Maxi-Cosi Emerald 360 Pro: What’s in the box?

The Emerald 360 Pro arrives mostly ready to go, so there’s very little to set up straight out of the box. You get the car seat with the ISOFIX base already integrated, plus a newborn inlay to give smaller children extra support in those early months.

Inside the box you’ll find:

  • 1 x Maxi-Cosi Emerald 360 Pro car seat with integrated ISOFIX base

  • 1 x newborn inlay

  • 1 x instruction manual

For added convenience, there are a few optional accessories available to buy separately. For example, Maxi-Cosi sells a washable car seat cover to help protect the seat from spills and crumbs, as well as a back seat mirror, which can be really handy for keeping an eye on your child when they’re travelling rear-facing.

How easy is it to install the Maxi-Cosi Emerald 360 Pro?

Super easy. Installation is designed to be quick and straightforward thanks to the Emerald 360 Pro’s integrated ISOFIX base and support leg, which come with the seat. This means there’s very little assembly required before fitting it into your car.

Laura says, “It took less than a minute to set up the two ISOFIX connectors into the slots in the car and the supporting leg. Everything is colour coded which makes set up simple (the connectors are yellow and the green and red indicators show whether the car seat and support leg are secured correctly). There is also an indicator for your child’s age and height to ensure you set everything up correctly.”

Those colour-coded indicators are particularly helpful for first-time installation. Once the ISOFIX connectors click into place and the support leg is positioned correctly on the car floor, the indicators turn green to confirm the seat is safely installed. If something isn’t secure, they remain red, making it easy to spot and adjust before setting off.

Once fitted, Laura reported that the seat felt solid and secure, giving her reassurance that everything was locked firmly in place before every journey.

Maxi - Cosi Emerald 360 Pro car seats

The Maxi-Cosi Emerald 360 Pro is available in three colours, including Authentic Black, Authentic Blue and Authentic Truffle

How does the Maxi-Cosi Emerald 360 Pro look?

While brands like Cosatto often favour bold patterns and colourful designs, the Emerald 360 Pro takes a different approach with a clean, modern look that blends easily into most car interiors. Laura tested the seat in Authentic Black and felt that the design is really sleek and the black design looks good in her car. “The material is great quality and really durable too (tested by my snack monster!),” Laura said. Paired with the cotton car seat cover to help protect against spills and everyday mess, the seat should stay looking good for longer, especially useful given it’s designed to last for years and eventually transition into a booster for older children.

The Emerald 360 Pro is available in three neutral colour options - Authentic Black, Authentic Blue and Authentic Truffle, all simple, pattern-free fabrics that feel practical for everyday use. The materials feel sturdy and well finished, with a texture that’s designed to hold up well to general wear over time.

The five-point harness is neatly integrated into the seat and feels secure without being overly bulky. It’s also designed to adjust alongside the headrest as children grow, helping keep the fit comfortable and supportive over time. For younger babies, the removable Newborn Inlay adds extra padding and helps position smaller infants safely in the seat during the early months.

At around 15kg - which includes the base, the Emerald 360 Pro is fairly heavy - although that’s typical for a long-term, all-in-one car seat, complete with base and load leg.

How safe is the Maxi-Cosi Emerald 360 Pro?

During testing Laura felt the Emerald 360 Pro offered plenty of reassurance. “It feels really sturdy and secure,” she said, adding that her daughter looked comfortable without the seat feeling overly restrictive.

The Emerald 360 Pro meets the latest i-Size (R129) safety standard, which is the newest European regulation designed to improve protection for babies and children in cars. It also allows children to travel rear-facing from birth up to around four years old (40–105cm), which is widely considered the safest position for young children as it offers better protection for the head, neck and spine in a collision. If preferred, the seat can also be used forward-facing from 15 months – according to UK car seat regulations.

Maxi-Cosi has also built in several safety features designed to help protect your child in a crash. These include G-CELL side-impact protection panels, which help disperse crash forces away from your child, and safety cushions (known as AirProtect cushions) in the headrest that add extra protection around the head area in the event of a side impact.

Another helpful detail (as we mentioned in the installation section) is the colour-coded misuse prevention system, which helps ensure the seat is set up correctly as your child grows. It clearly indicates the right configuration for your child’s age and height, reducing the risk of using the seat incorrectly.

Maxi-Cosi Emerald 360 Pro in all stages

The Maxi-Cosi Emerald 360 Pro is designed to grow with your child from birth to 12 years old

What is the Maxi-Cosi Emerald 360 Pro like to use day to day?

Day to day, the Emerald 360 Pro is designed to make getting your child in and out of the car much easier. The SlideTech pull-out mechanism was the feature that stood out most to Laura during testing. “I loved the fact that you can pull the actual seat out towards you, as well as the rotating 360-degree spin feature,” she said. Once your child is strapped in, you simply slide the seat back and rotate it into the rear- or forward-facing position.

The sliding motion works smoothly without needing extra buttons. You can either hold the centre handle with one hand or grasp both sides of the seat with two hands, depending on what feels most comfortable.

Another thoughtful touch is the easy-in harness, which stays open and out of the way while you’re putting your child into the seat. When the seat is in harness mode (both rear- and forward-facing), you can rotate it smoothly between positions, even when it’s reclined.

Because the Emerald 360 Pro is designed to grow with your child, it also adapts easily as they move through different stages. It can be used rear-facing from birth up to 105cm (around four years), forward-facing with the harness from 15 months, and later as a high-back booster using the car’s seatbelt from 100–150cm.

How comfortable is the Maxi-Cosi Emerald 360 Pro?

Very! Laura noticed that her daughter seemed very comfortable in the Emerald 360 Pro and almost always fell asleep on car journeys. “Occasionally during a nap, I did notice her head tended to drop forward,” she said. “So perhaps a more reclined position for a younger baby would be beneficial while they have little neck support, but the Newborn Inlay helps with this.”

The seat comes with five recline positions, so you can adjust it from fully upright to nearly flat, making it easier for your child to nap or sit comfortably. It’s worth noting, though, that the deepest recline can be harder to reach with an older toddler.

Breathable foam, mesh fabrics, and ventilation panels help keep your little one cool and comfortable during every journey, while the generous padding provides a snug and secure feel.

The integrated ISOFIX connectors and adjustable headrest make the switch to booster seat mode straightforward, giving the seat a long lifespan as your child grows.

Is the Maxi-Cosi Emerald 360 Pro easy to clean?

Like most Maxi-Cosi car seats, the Emerald 360 Pro is designed to be practical for everyday life with kids. For minor spills or crumbs, you can simply wipe the seat down with a damp cloth, which is quick and hassle-free.

For a more thorough clean, the seat cover is fully removable and can be popped in the washing machine at up to 30°C. The fabrics feel durable and high-quality, so they stand up well to everyday messes, from snack attacks to muddy shoes.

Does the Maxi-Cosi Emerald 360 Pro offer good value for money?

From Laura’s perspective, the Emerald 360 Pro feels luxurious to use, and the SlideTech feature was honestly a game changer for her. “Although it’s a little pricier than some other 360-degree models,” she says, “the comfort, build quality, and slide-and-rotate technology make it worth the extra money.”

Compared to other seats in the same price bracket, like the Thule Elm (around £500 with the Alfi base), the Emerald 360 Pro holds its own. The Thule Elm impressed Michaela with its generous padding and supportive headrest, which kept her toddler secure and comfortable even on longer drives. “It feels really solid once it’s in place,” she said, highlighting the confidence the build quality gives.
