Sandie Peggie: Employment Tribunal, associated legal claims, and related matters - thread #68

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims were of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claimed to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and after a prolonged process judgment was handed down on 8 December 2025. That judgment is being appealed and an appeal hearing is expected to take place in 2027.

A second Employment Tribunal, Sandie Peggie vs Royal College of Nursing, has just been heard. The hearing started on Wednesday 23 September 2026 and ended on Thursday 1 October 2026. It is possible that a decision will be handed down before Christmas of this year.

Additional legal claims have been raised. Sandie Peggie is taking action against three senior managers who were witnesses in the first Employment Tribunal - Dr Kate Searle, Dr Maggie Currer and Esther Davidson, against Carol Potter, the chief executive of NHS Fife, for victimisation, against NHS Fife for discrimination, and against its director of people and culture David Miller for harassment. In addition, Sandie Peggie is being investigated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council over fitness to practice.

Just came to share that badge -

Women Won't Wheesht have played a blinder.

stickygotstuck · 06/10/2026 16:39

Indeed.

Will there be an official response? 🤔

Peregrina · 06/10/2026 16:51

Brilliant. Let's see their response.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/10/2026 16:53

Oh that’s excellent!

janeszebra · 06/10/2026 16:53

Wonder if people can contact the RCN and express an interest prior to it (presumably!) being stocked? To demonstrate a demand, as it were. I'd pre-buy for sure.

Peregrina · 06/10/2026 16:55

Cue the TRAs at RCN HQ having a hissy fit.

BTW - have any London people seen whether they are still flying the Progress flag? If they are reporting them to the LA for not having planning permission would be a good move too.

I love that picture so much. Joyous.

I wish I had a copy of that paper!

PrancingPanda · 06/10/2026 16:57

The proposed Rcn badge is a thing of beauty.
Love it

FarriersGirl · 06/10/2026 16:59

Just love the proposed RCN badge - wonder if we will see a response?

oviraptor21 · 06/10/2026 17:04

Badge is brilliant too 💪

On the CofE question, I was interested to hear the other day during an interview with a priest that the Church of England is loosing many ordained priests to the Catholic Church.

In a nutshell, it appears many CofE priests have had it with the excessive progresism, plus they like to have firm doctrine to guide them. Which makes sense, I guess.

Sorry, I know this is a derail, but it's a different kind of derailGrin

It surprises me when Anglicans who dislike the ordination of women decide to become Roman Catholics instead - there have been some very high profile ones, including the late Anne Widdicombe RIP.

It's like the only difference between the CofE and the RC church was the ordination of women/'progressiveness'. What about papal infallibility? the virgin birth? transubstantiation not consubstantiation? the Immaculate Conception? [not the same as the virgin birth]? and indeed clerical celibacy.

Are we to believe that when they approached the RC church asking if they could join because they didn't want women priests, the RC church said 'well OK but you have to sign up to all our Terms and Conditions, not just the 'thou shalt not ordain women' one' but the Anglicans looked at the list of Ts&Cs and said
'Yeah yeah fine whatever where do I sign?'.

I don't get it. Why don't they apply for a transfer on the basis of any of the other significant differences?

We have a history of doing 'synchronised donating' as a gesture of support for SP, and of gratitude to NC and the legal team during the first tribunal.

We donated to Sex Matters for NC&co.

For Sandie, we donated to the Scottish Society for Rheumatology - the family requested donations to it when her father died. The SSR must have been surprised to receive this big uptick in donations all at once, so we let them know that they were in memory of Mr Peggie and in support of Sandie and the family.

A 'synchronised badge-pre-ordering' would be great,Smile and we can let Sandie know it's a gesture of support for her.

Apologies for causing confusion re @NoWordForFluffy's birthday.
I grumble to myself when people don't read posts properly and now I've done it 🙄
Fluffy- just think of it as someone being early with the birthday card!
☺️

@MarieDeGournay : I think in the CofE, they enter the RC through the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham. This is a piece by the married priest who was in Westerham, Kent. He is writing about his attendance at a ceremony, with 3 former CofE bishops in Westminster Cathedral to enter the RC Church, and is waxing lyrical about it all.

They get to bring some aspects of their Anglican background with them, I think liturgical traditions. However, I think they have to accept the dogma and Canon law bits. Somebody more up on this may be along soon.

That letter from ‘women won’t wheest’ is pitch perfect. If the RCN does reply, I would be surprised if it was anything other than ‘we’ll consider it’. And, that consideration will last a very, very, very, very ad nauseam long time.

They have truly had the curtains pulled across on their organisation. Naomi Cunningham poked at quite a lot of interesting things with her questioning.

I did not know that, and I have dabbled I sourdough myself. My 'mother' is currently in the freezer. It got too expensive with the leccy about the time of the Ukraine war so I froze some. I guess she's probably dead and needs removing! Time flies!

You killed the mother by freezing her? Cruel! Grin

Maybe bananas are a retriever-type snack. I barely get any once the hound has has what he wants. I'm way too soft on the poor boy!

I'm all for it. Who would we address our requests to? Do Women Won't Wheesht need a heads up beforehand?

Just to add more confusion...it's FluffyDog's birthday tomorrow (and Vladimir Putin's, but there is absolutely no link between them! 🤣).

Dunno, Vlad (or Vova) just might like bananas. So, just to clarify, FluffyDog is no relation to Konni, the female black lab who was presented to Putin in 2000.

Just to add a very happy birthday to FluffyDog, and may he get as many bananas as he wants in his life. Subject to good health.

I shall plump for no on that one. 😁 Konni was very cute though (and it's not like she had any choice over her owner!).

I’ll be watching the RCN website with bated breath 😆

I have been trying to find the Mumsnet TT entry about someone changing SP’s letter wording recounting events from ‘He to She’. It’s been bugging me that the impact to the receiver would be different as in ‘He said She said’ to ‘She said She said’ .The original would have been quite clear who said/did what as SP was quite clear that she thought DU was a man. Surely what should have changed was ‘He’ to ‘DU’ if necessary out of respect but DU for clarity or do I recall mention of a typo. Does anyone remember if a misconstrue of events due to this change was possible by the receiver of the letter?
