Mumsnet Christmas wishlist

In association with

For many households this year, Christmas might look a little different as families struggle with the rising cost of energy bills and mortgage rates.

It’s no surprise, then, that Mumsnetters are turning towards more practical gifts over luxuries, both as gifts for others and for their own Christmas lists. 2022 has already been the year of the air fryer, so useful kitchen items like that alongside items that keep you warm - like hooded blankets - are at the top of most wish lists this year.

As Mumsnetter wibdib says when sharing her Christmas wish list, “you can see a theme - warmth, energy saving, making life easier for myself!”

Despite this, when asked what they’d like for Christmas from John Lewis this year, some users are still lusting after luxury items that they wouldn’t buy because a) they can’t justify spending that money on themselves and b) that money could be better spent elsewhere this year. That said, if there's anyone that deserves a luxury item at Christmas, it’s a parent who has spent the last few months planning and stressing about the festive season. Handbags, clothing, fragrances, and pizza ovens were all at the top of some users’ wishlists for 2022.

Here’s the official Mumsnet Christmas wishlist for 2022.

1. John Lewis Wisteria Cotton Pyjama Set, £39

John Lewis Wisteria Cotton Pyjama Set

Price: £39 | Buy now from John Lewis

“A pair of beautiful new pyjamas- just like these!” AntiqueCestChic

Who doesn't love new pyjamas for Christmas? Particularly when they look as lush as this Wisteria Cotton Pyjama Set from John Lewis. These pyjamas are both soft and breathable thanks to the pure cotton material, and the shape of the classic pyjama shirt is timeless. While they may cost more than your usual pyjamas, we assure you, adding these to your Christmas list is a great idea.

2. John Lewis Cashmere Travel Wrap, £99

John Lewis Cashmere Travel Wrap

Price: £99 | Buy now from John Lewis

“I'd love this gorgeous cashmere travel wrap…” TooHotToRamble

When asked what MNers would spend at John Lewis this Christmas, eagle eyed Mumsnetter TooHotToRamble spotted this cashmere wrap scarf and didn’t hesitate to share it. Available in several colours - including bright pink, which we love - this scarf is made from pure cashmere and is the perfect travel wrap to add that finishing touch to your cold-weather outfit. And honestly, this is one of the more reasonably priced pure cashmere scarves we’ve seen - although, if it’s still a little out of budget, there’s also this one by Mint Velvet, or John Lewis’ own cashmere knitted scarf

3. Pure cashmere bed socks, £35

Pure cashmere bed socks

Price: £35 | Buy now from John Lewis

“It's cold here at the moment..” Antaboo

We feel you, Antaboo. It’s cold everywhere at the moment, and even more so when the majority of us are avoiding turning our heating on. To help us stay true to the “heating the human, not the home” mantra this Christmas, these lovely cashmere bed socks are just £35 and are both useful and a treat. They’re available in various colours - including light blue, light grey, and emerald - but we’re a fan of the classic ivory style that would perfectly match your loungewear or pyjamas.

4. Roll Neck Cable Knit Jumper, £65

Roll Neck Cable Knit Jumper

Price: £65 | Buy now from John Lewis

“A pure wool jumper with a cable down the arms (where from though?), and a new lipstick.” Getabloominmoveon

Mumsnetter Getabloominmoveon was very specific with this Christmas list request, but thankfully we managed to find one item that we think fits the bill. John Lewis’ own roll neck cable knit jumper comes in either grey or mid pink, and is the retailer’s update on the classic cable knit. This chunky knit jumper isn’t too heavy to wear, can be layered when it’s really chilly or worn as a top layer during changing seasons. We can imagine ourselves standing by the pub’s fireplace with a drink in hand wearing this jumper.

5. John Lewis Sheepskin Cropped Boot Slippers, £59

John Lewis Sheepskin Cropped Boot Slippers

Price: £59 | Buy now from John Lewis

“Sheepskin mini boots (wouldn't want to blow my budget on the Ugg version).” sborber

2022 has seen the return of the once popular UGG boots, but with a difference. Ultra mini UGGs are the style of the season, but may be out of some people’s price range. Luckily, keen Mumsnetters who are after their own pair for Christmas can add these to their list for Santa, instead. John Lewis have served up these sheepskin cropped boot slippers that are a perfect dupe of the UGG ones - and cost significantly less! For just £59 you can keep your feet warm and cosy in this slip-on design that’s proving popular this winter.

6. Amazon Kindle Paperwhite eReader, £130

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite eReader

Price: £130 | Buy now from John Lewis

“Kindle paperwhite and maybe a nice box of chocolates to relax in front of the fire when the kids are in bed... If that ever happens!” AuntieMaggie

When it comes to achieving relaxation, Mumsnetter AuntieMaggie knows exactly what she wants for Christmas. Amazon’s all-new Kindle Paperwhite is a waterproof eReader that has built-in Audible so you can enjoy both your favourite books and audiobooks all stored safely in a lightweight tablet. It’s waterproof, so is safe to enjoy from the bath to the beach, and thanks to its adjustable warm light, can be read in the glaring sun or at nighttime. Bonus: you get three months Kindle Unlimited for free when you buy yours from John Lewis this Christmas.

7. Ony Original oversized hooded blanket, £39

Ony Original oversized hooded blanket

Price: £39 | Buy now from John Lewis

“This hooded blanket looks so warm and comfy.” sborber

Our hooded blankets roundup is currently a popular page on Mumsnet, and it’s easy to see why. Both practical and comfortable, a hooded blanket keeps you warm and snug throughout winter. They’re easy to throw over an outfit, and warm enough to wear on its own with your matching cashmere socks, so it’s no wonder they’re at the top of everyone’s Christmas lists this year. There’s a variety of colours available, but as they’re a popular choice, some colours are in and out of stock so keep an eye out in the lead up to Christmas.

8. Fitbit Luxe SE, Fitness and Wellness Tracker, £169

Fitbit Luxe SE, Fitness and Wellness Tracker

Price: £169 | Buy now from John Lewis

“I would love a Fitbit luxe. I’m not a fan of the apple or garmin watches as they are too big and bulky on my wrist. This one has a metal strap too.” Rabidturnip

When we asked Mumsnetters what they’d love from John Lewis for Christmas, it’s no surprise many of you went for some big ticket items. After all, that’s what a wish list is for. On MNer Rabidturnip’s wish list this year is the Fitbix Luxe SE. With its stylish, non-bulky strap it’s no surprise she’s lusting after it, as it’s less bulky than similar styles by Apple and Garmin. However, we do realise that the £159.99 price tag attached to this one may be off putting to some of you this year, so we’ve picked out some alternatives that are similar and equally as stylish.

9. Samsung Galaxy Buds2 True Wireless Earbuds, £79

Samsung Galaxy Buds2 True Wireless Earbuds

Price £79 | Buy now from John Lewis

“Wireless earbuds, not fussed for an expensive brand from DC.” Sestriere

Finding the right wireless ear buds for you can be a tricky task. There’s hundreds of ear buds on the market, ranging from the cheap and rather questionable, to the reputable but very expensive. Mumsnet user Sestriere may not be bothered about a well-known brand but when it comes to small gadgets like these, sticking to the experts is often wise. Particularly when you get a two year guarantee included. These Samsung Galaxy Buds2 wireless ear buds have rave reviews over at John Lewis, and come with active noise cancellation so you can really block the world out.

10. John Lewis Specialist Synthetic Weighted Blanket, from £80

John Lewis Specialist Synthetic Weighted Blanket

Price: From £80 | Buy now from John Lewis

“My friend bought one of these last week and I’ve told DH to get me it too!” sborber

While everyone rushes to buy heated blankets this winter, one thing people may be overlooking is a weighted blanket. Great for warmth, comfort and calming anxiety, a weighted blanket is a great addition to your sofa or bedding. This one from John Lewis comes in different sizes and weights, and so prices range from £80 to £110 depending on your selection. And admittedly, while that’s a lot to fork out for a blanket upfront, we assure you the benefits will last for years to come. A sleep aid offering warmth with a side of serotonin? Count us in.

11. KitchenAid 175 Artisan 4.8L Stand Mixer, £499

KitchenAid 175 Artisan 4.8L Stand Mixer

Price: £499 | Buy now from John Lewis

“I have dreamed about owning a kitchen aid. It's never going to happen though. They are beautiful 😬” tiddlywinks2

Okay, this isn’t exactly affordable, but this is a Christmas wish list and as MNer tiddlywinks2 admits, owning a KitchenAid like this one may be a dream for many. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t add one to your wish list, though. After all, miracles do happen and it could be a gift that everyone pitches in for. A sort of ‘investment’ gift that will keep on giving for years to come. It’s no surprise that it’s a sought after piece; whisk, flat beat, grind, and hook away to your heart’s content. Plus if you buy it through John Lewis, you can choose to add five years’ Protect Plus to protect you against accidental damage.

If you still want to share tiddlywinks2's dream of a kitchen mixer, there’s also these alternatives available that are more affordable.

12. John Lewis The Ultimate Collection 1600 Thread Count Cotton Bedding, from £70

John Lewis The Ultimate Collection 1600 Thread Count Cotton Bedding

Price: From £70 | Buy now from John Lewis

“I would go mad with expensive, beautiful bed linens for all beds…” RedRosie

When asked what they’d spend £200 on at John Lewis, Mumsnetters were quick to head for the latest gadgets. Not RedRosie, though, who instead admitted she’d blow it all and put it towards new bedding. And who can blame her? This bedding set from John Lewis oozes every bit of comfort and elegance you’d wish for in your nightly abode. Prices range from £70 to £510 depending on what size of pillowcase or duvet cover you wish to purchase. Even John Lewis themselves admit it’s their most sumptuous bed linen, and has the highest thread count available.

For more affordable options, there’s also the 800 thread count Egyptian cotton bedding or the 1200 thread count Egyptian cotton that are worth considering, too.

13. John Lewis Ultra Light Edge to Edge Cashmere Cardigan, £99

John Lewis Ultra Light Edge to Edge Cashmere Cardigan

Price: £99 | Buy now from John Lewis

“I'd love this cashmere cardigan to keep me warm when I'm crafting. I can't stand bulky jumpers so it would be perfect.” WeDontNeedToTalkAboutJamie

While staying warm is at the top of most people’s agendas this winter, it seems some Mumsnetters like WeDontNeedToTalkAboutJamie don’t want to sacrifice their style while trying to do so. And who can blame her, with cashmere cardigans like this one? John Lewis’ popular Edge to Edge cardigan is available in mid blue, navy, grey, charcoal, and berry, and is a lightweight cashmere staple that can be worn comfortably around the home, or as a staple layering piece while venturing out.

14. Miele RX3 Scout Home Robot Vacuum Cleaner, £779

Miele RX3 Scout Home Robot Vacuum Cleaner

Price: £799 | Buy now from John Lewis

“A robot vacuum cleaner. Sit with a cup of coffee and cake and watch it clean up 😀.” MARYCAT8

Once upon a time, a robot vacuum cleaner was one of the most popular items that Mumsnet made you buy on our Talk boards. These days, they’re a little out of our budget but can be a great ‘everybody pitch in’ gift for Christmas. Although, Santa might need to sell a kidney for this Miele one. However, if it’s easy vacuuming you desire for Christmas, there’s always the below alternatives that are worth adding to your list.

15. MeacoDry ABC Dehumidifier, £150

MeacoDry ABC Dehumidifier

Price: £150 | Buy now from John Lewis

“A dehumidifier would be amazing. Our bedroom is starting to get condensation from drying clothes in there.” Discoh

If there’s one thing Mumsnetters are on the hunt for this winter, after heated clothes airers, it’s a dehumidifier. With rising bills, drying our clothes thoroughly and efficiently for some households is proving tricky, as excess moisture in the air can wreak havoc in your home and on your chest. Having a dehumidifer can help, and as Discoh has already explained, will help to banish condensation and dampness in any room. This MeacoDry one for just £149.99 is a bargain, and comes with 2 years’ protection against accidental damage, too.

16. Belkin 15W Qi Wireless Charging Pad with Power Supply, £30

Belkin 15W Qi Wireless Charging Pad with Power Supply

Price: £30 | Buy now from John Lewis

“Fancy bedside charger for all my gadgets.” declutteringmymind

For Christmas this year, Mumsnetter declutteringmymind is after a practical gift, one that aims to save time, effort - and ideally electricity - while charging her devices. This Qi Wireless Charging Pad by Belkin is compatible with all Qi enabled smartphones, as well as most lightweight cases up to 3mm.

17. Ooni Koda 16 Gas Fuel Portable Pizza Oven, £499

Ooni Koda 16 Gas Fuel Portable Pizza Oven

Price: £499 | Buy now from John Lewis

“It would encourage the family into the garden on these colder nights. ..and pizza! 🍕” WeAreTheWeirdosMister

“This has been on my fantasy Christmas list for a while. I would love to make homemade pizzas 😁” unusualcolours

Ah, do you remember lockdown? Those days when everyone was baking sourdough bread, turning to crafts, and creating their own pizzas. Fast forward two years and the once popular Ooni pizza ovens are now being replaced by air fryers, hooded blankets and heated throws on everyone’s Christmas lists. But for those of you still chasing that dream (we’re looking at you WeAreTheWeirdosMister and unusualcolours), Christmas isn’t a bad time to stick it on your list and hope your loved ones will invest in one… So they can benefit from it too, of course. While the Ooni Koda model is £499, the below alternatives are also available.

18. Nintendo Switch OLED 64GB Console with Joy-Con, £310

Nintendo Switch OLED 64GB Console with Joy-Con,

Price: £310 | Buy now from John Lewis

“A Nintendo switch so we could all play games together. My 6 year old keeps saying she's saving up her money to buy me one so we can play together ❤️” VelvetThunder

When Mumsnetter VelvetThunder shared exactly why she’d like a Nintendo Switch this Christmas, we couldn’t help but feel some admiration. When asked what she’d spend £200 on at John Lewis for Christmas, instead of picking a cashmere cardigan or Ooni pizza oven out for herself, she instead wished for a Nintendo Switch both her and her DD can enjoy together. And we think it’s a great idea!

While it might mean Santa coughing up a lot of dough in one go, the popular game console is a gift that will keep on giving. The Nintendo Switch can be played by parents and children alike, and is a great way of bringing everyone together for some fun over the festive season… And play on alone when the kids have gone to bed!

19. Slip® Pure Silk Zippered Pillowcase, £85

Slip® Pure Silk Zippered Pillowcase

Price: £85 | Buy now from John Lewis

“I would really love one (or a couple) of these pillow cases. My hair is thinner than it used to be due to medication, & a bit frizzy. This one is thicker than most other options, so I suspect it would last longer & feel more luxurious.” Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia

It’s no secret that having a silk pillowcase can benefit your skin and your hair during your sleep - and there’s no person who understands this more than Fiona Stewart. In 2003, as Century Fox Films State Manager, she was prescribed medication to help with sensitive skin and thinning hair but her dermatologist suggested a silk pillowcase, instead. Fast forward and Slip® was born. While there’s hundreds of silk pillowcases available on the market, this one by Slip® that Mumsnetter Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia spied is worth investing in and the benefits are endless.

20. Too Faced Born This Way The Natural Nudes Eyeshadow Palette, £40

Too Faced Born This Way The Natural Nudes Eyeshadow Palette

Which is why when MNer Whistlesandbell asked for a large eyeshadow palette, we knew just where to look. John Lewis stock this Too Faced Born This Way The Natural Nudes Eyeshadow Palette that comes with a 4.6 star rating on their site.
