Eurocamp Domaine des Ormes waterslides

If you’re looking to get away for an affordable family-friendly break over the October half-term break then you can’t go wrong with a Eurocamp escape. With sites across Europe, there's plenty of choice for a great value holiday with the kids.

Not all Eurocamp sites are open at this time of year but there's still a selection of fun-packed options in sunny destinations. As well as in not-so-sunny destinations that are equipped with indoor amenities in case the weather turns sour. Just bear in mind that the sites will be quieter than they are in the summer months and that some facilities might not be available at the end of October.

We’ve scoured the Mumsnet holidays forum to find Eurocamp sites that get the family seal of approval and we've checked that each site is open over the October half-term break. We've also highlighted average temperatures so you can get an idea of the kind of weather you can expect.

Whether you want a change in scenery and to explore somewhere new or want to chase some autumnal sunshine, there’s a Eurocamp site that’ll suit you and your family.

When is October half term in the UK?

We'd recommend checking when your child's half-term holiday lands, as dates vary across the UK. Generally October half-term 2026 is either 19-23 October or 26-30 October, 2026. Increasingly, schools are extending the October half-term break to cover a two-week period, particularly in secondary schools.

Some schools don't follow these term dates including academies, free schools, foundation schools and faith schools so if you're unsure about your school's term dates, it's best to contact them directly.

We’ve been to that site many times and always loved it. To get the train into Paris I think you’d need to go to Compiegne. DLP is 90 minutes drive and Parc Asterix 60 minutes. Between Compiegne and the site there’s the Armistice Clearing, well worth visiting and many war cemeteries very close by. On the way to Soissons there’s a tree adventure place and plenty of shops, hypermarche etc in Soissons.

We visited last October half term. Used as a base for visiting Disney & Paris. We went from Villers-Cotterets to Paris on the train, free parking & cost £70 return for 6 of us took just over an hour so visited twice. Lots of interesting Ww1 stuff to do locally. Pierrefonds Chateau was good for an afternoon. The park itself was good, pool was busy, did get a little grubby in the changing rooms but slides were fab. The local village is about 15 minute walk with Boulangerie etc. Intermarche was a few minutes drive away in Soissons. The site takeaway was good, busy. My kids are under 10 but as a base it’s great, will go back.

Our verdict

A three-hour drive from Calais, Eurocamp La Croix du Vieux Pont is a great site to visit in the October half-term holidays if you don’t want to travel too far. The site is run by Eurocamp’s sister company Marvilla Parks and has everything you need to keep the whole family happy, whatever the weather.

There’s plenty of things to do outdoors with three playground areas, a crazy golf course, and sports like tennis, volleyball, and boules. But don’t worry if it gets a bit chilly and wet as there’s a brilliant all-weather swimming pool on site and plenty to do in the local area. Plus there's a shuttle service to Disneyland Paris, which is magical come rain or shine.

We spent a week at Fabulous Village in August and had an amazing time. Great balance of chill pool days vs city days. Yes it was hot but it wasn’t unbearable, actually pretty blissful if I’m honest! We didn’t have a car so we got the local bus (stop near the park entrance) to the metro station, all very easy. You can also get the bus to a local shopping mall for an alternative change of scenery (and bit of midday air con!). My kids were 5 and 8 at the time. We did all the main sites. Yes it was hot and yes it was busy but returning to the super relaxed campsite at the end of the day was the perfect antidote. It’s one of the loveliest holidays we’ve ever had 😊

Eurocamp Camping Fabulous Village is a fantastic site close to Rome and surrounded by 70 acres of pine forest. It's perfect for nature walks and bike rides as well as being close to the Ostia coast for access to beautiful beaches. While the pool complex is closed at this time of year, there's still plenty to do on site, with two playgrounds, tennis courts, table tennis, and volleyball on offer.

The site is also perfectly positioned for exploring Rome's historic and architectural treasures as there's a bus stop right outside that'll take you straight into the city. Take the kids to see the Colosseum and the Trevi fountain, then treat them to a trip to Bioparco zoo with a few gelato stops along the way.

Keep the kids learning over the October half-term break with a visit to Eurocamp La Vallée, the perfect base for exploring the history of the Normandy region. Visit the D-Day landing beaches or take a look at the world's most famous tapestry at the nearby Bayeux Museum.

The site itself is quieter during the October half-term holidays with no kids' clubs running, but there’s still plenty to do. You can enjoy a swim in the heated indoor pools, head to the playground to burn off some energy, or hire a bike to explore the beautiful site. In the evenings you can relax in the restaurant bar which is open until 1 November.

We went to De Twee Bruggen with Eurocamp and LOVED it. [...] De Twee Bruggen has a good indoor and outdoor pool with a couple of slides, onsite cafe and lake access nearby. The camping fields for pitching your own were lovely and lots of room and wasn't busy at all last week or August (as Dutch schools have started back by then). Great laundry facilities with card payment. I took a peek in the shower block and all clean and good. The site had some evening entertainment on too which was great, and we don't "do" entertainment! Lively and in your face is not us at all, and the entertainment was pitched perfectly. Kids loved the park and pump track - can hire bikes etc. I think it's probably the nicest campsite we've been to and we've been to Eurocamping most years for 15 years in France, Italy, and the Netherlands.

Our verdict

Eurocamp Camping De Twee Bruggen is perfect for families looking for a relaxed holiday in the October half-term break. The large pitches are perfect for giving you that extra bit of privacy while you unwind and the site itself is set in beautiful landscaped grounds that are great to stroll around.

When you do want to get a bit more active there’s a fantastic indoor pool complex with waterslides and a separate children’s pool so the whole family can enjoy a swim even if the weather is on the cool side. You can also try your hand at tennis, volleyball, and canoeing, before heading to the on-site restaurant for a bite to eat.

How to get to Eurocamp Camping De Twee Bruggen from the UK: Take a ferry or the tunnel to Calais; then it’s a 3h 40min drive

[...] We have loved Playa Montroig (Spain) near Salou and you can do side trips to Barcelona but would need a car for that. Smallish site with two nice swimming pools and on the beach. [...]

Escape the chilly UK weather and head to Eurocamp Playa Montroig on Spain's Costa Dorada for the October half-term holiday. It's set in beautiful subtropical gardens and is packed with fantastic facilities, while sandy beaches are right on your doorstep.

There’s a fab pool complex with heated outdoor pools, fun slides, grassy areas, and palm trees that’s open until the end of October. And when you’re worn out from splashing around you can refuel at one of the site’s restaurants and bars or head to the on-site supermarket to pick up something to enjoy back at your accommodation.

The site offers direct access to the coastal resort of Miami Platja.

Average temperature in October: 15C to 21C

How to get to Eurocamp Playa Montroig from the UK: Fly to Reus airport. The site is a 30-minute drive from there.

Best for a relaxed escape in the Netherlands

Papillon Country Resort, Overijssel, Netherlands

Pros
  • Relaxed atmosphere

  • Heated covered and indoor pools

Cons
  • Might be too quiet for some families

  • Shop and bar open until 29 October

Our verdict

Enjoy the easy, relaxed Dutch way of life with an October half-term break at Eurocamp Papillon Country Resort. This charming site is perfect for peaceful woodland walks and has its own lake where you can fish, swim (if you fancy a bracing dip), or give boating a go.

The site also has an outdoor spray park, a heated covered pool, and a heated indoor children's pool, all open until 29 October. If you want to venture off site then you'll find Bad Bentheim castle nearby that's perfect for exploring, and you're close to the German border so you can tick off two countries in one trip.

Average temperature in October: 7C to 15C

How to get to Eurocamp Papillon Country Resort from the UK: Fly to Dusseldorf and then hire a car for the two-hour drive to the site. Or take a ferry to Calais and then it's a five-hour drive to the site.

Are Eurocamp sites open over October half-term?

While not all Eurocamp sites are open over the October half-term break, there are still plenty that are. It's worth checking which facilities are open before you book though because a lot of the outdoor pool complexes and some of the on-site shops close after the summer season.

What’s the easiest Eurocamp site to get to for October half-term?

If you’re happy to drive then La Croix de Vieux Pont is the easiest site to get to for the October half-term break as it's only a three-hour drive from Calais.

Prefer to fly? Then Vilanova Park in Spain is a great choice as it's just a 30-minute drive from Barcelona airport.

Which destinations are still warm for October half-term?

You can never guarantee the weather you'll get in Europe in October but the destinations that are most likely to still be warm for the half-term holiday are those in Spain. Our top pick is Playa Montroig on the Costa Dorada.

What’s included in the price of a Eurocamp stay?

The price of a Eurocamp stay includes your accommodation, use of the kids’ clubs, and use of the on-site facilities including swimming pools, activities, and entertainment. Meals aren’t included so you’ll need to make your own food or head to the on-site restaurants. Duvets and pillows are generally provided but you’ll need to bring your own linens, or reserve them in advance for an extra fee.

How we chose our recommendations

Because we know that there's nothing like a real recommendation from a fellow parent, we first headed to the Mumsnet forums to find out which Eurocamp sites were being recommended for families.

We then did some research looking at which Eurocamp destinations were open for the October half-term break and what customers said about them. We looked at on-site amenities, accommodation options and location. Having collated all that information, we then narrowed our list down to collate the best Eurocamp sites for the October half-term holiday.
