With accommodation, pools and activities to suit kids of all ages, Eurocamp La Croix du Vieux Pont offers a convenient base for family holidays to Disneyland Paris and the French capital. We checked in as a group of two mums and two toddlers. Here’s our verdict.

Around a 90-minute drive from central Paris and Disneyland Paris, Eurocamp La Croix du Vieux Pont is one of the best Eurocamp sites according to Mumsnet users and is ideal for families who want to stay just outside the main drag but close enough for day trips.

It’s particularly well suited to young kids (and adults!) who like to keep activities varied - think splash parks, water slides, boats, trampolines, playgrounds and soft play areas - without having to venture far from basecamp.

We even managed a ‘beach day’ at the on-site man-made swimming lagoon, which features sand to play in and rockpool-style fountains that our children waddled around like they would at the seaside.

I could very much imagine bringing my multi-generation family here too, with grandparents, babies and teens to boot, as there were other activities like fishing, cycling, land zorbing and archery we didn’t manage to take advantage of on this trip. The bars looked pretty lively (we dragged ourselves away before our toddlers’ out-of-routine evening meltdowns kicked in).

The accommodation options appeal to the masses with cabins to suit all budgets as well as chalets and lodges, and even some apartments for those who prefer a little more brick to their walls. There are also pre-erected safari and lodge tents overlooking the beautiful lake.

One of our highlights was the oh-so-French on-site bakery and we loved how everyone cycled there to add baguettes to their baskets every morning.

All in all, it’s a fantastic option for families of all ages, with plenty to do and a peaceful, laid-back atmosphere that you might not expect at a holiday park, largely thanks to its tranquil lakeside setting.

How we tested

Toddlers at Eurocamp La Croix du Vieux Pont

Our toddlers checking out some of the site's fun water features

My sister and I - both parents to young toddlers - planned a seven-night trip in late July, at the start of the school holidays. We wanted somewhere self-contained that was reasonably priced and would keep active two-year-olds (and their easily-bored mothers) entertained for a week, that was close enough to Disneyland Paris for us to make the most of the free tickets for children under three. Unfortunately, and as is so often the case with small children, we had to push our trip back by two days due to illness at the start of the week. We stayed five nights in total in a two-bedroom classic cabin.

What’s the accommodation like?

While we loved the look of the premium accommodation options, we were perfectly equipped in our Classic cabin with its large deck and BBQ for sunny evenings.

We personally struggled having two separate families and bedtime routines/behaviours of similarly aged children to contend with in a two-bedroom lodge, as the walls are fairly thin and, naturally, the kids did not assume identical sleep patterns. Fortunately we were not too close to our neighbours, with ample spacing between the cabins highly appreciated for privacy in those tear-your-hair-out moments.

Our accommodation was around a 10-minute walk to most of the action like the swimming pools and entertainment spaces. We got into a lovely habit of taking an early morning stroll to the bakery for freshly baked pastries and coffee each morning, with the children waving a chubby-fingered ‘bonjour’ to the very friendly staff.

We were impressed with how robust the safari tents looked, with some positioned right opposite the lake. For those on a reasonable budget who prefer a little more quiet and a lot more scenery, they’d be a winning option right in the thick of this lush green camp.

What are the pools like?

The outdoor pool at Eurocamp La Croix du Vieux Pont

There's a choice of pools including indoor and outdoor options

Swimming is a key feature of this Eurocamp site with four family-friendly pools, a lagoon beach and a fantastic splash park. This was our children's favourite place to play as it was indoors and safe for them to run around thanks to sprung flooring.

Two of the pools are indoor too: one geared towards younger children with shallower water and a smaller slide. The bigger pool has a jacuzzi for all to use next to it and plenty of space.

The outdoor pool has fountains, water features and bridges which made it fun but less about proper swimming. It was helpfully located next to the bar but overall was too bright for little eyes not yet used to the sun. We loved the lagoon as the trees provided some shade, as did the adjoining Lagoon Beach Bar.

What other facilities are available?

With boating, climbing, fishing and many more activities available at an additional cost, you need a good excuse to go off-site. The outdoor soft play area was a little treacherous for small kids, but we later discovered another indoor one we wished we’d found earlier in the week.

There were some arcade games and pool and air-hockey tables in the main bar too. In terms of practical amenities, there’s a grocery and a gift shop, a bakery (with fresh coffee!), bike hire, washing facilities, and plenty of food and drink options within the grounds too. The site is quite large so you may need to consider how to carry your shopping.

Is there a kids' club?

The kids' club was probably brilliant for older children but under fours were only able to join in for around an hour a day with parent supervision. We stopped by the kids' club tents at the suggested time and found some toys our kids enjoyed, but the actual activities were a little hard to locate. It is possible we missed instructions about signing up, or it was just a very casual timetable. The older kids' schedule seemed more organised - and rife with activities - but expect a more relaxed approach to arrangements than you might find in the UK.

What are the food options?

We were very pleased to see several dining options to complement the self-catering facilities. Our most frequented spot was the hole-in-the-wall, take-out pizzeria which served chips and nuggets and the like - perfect for fussier eaters and nice and close to the main complex, with some outdoor seating.

The sports bar offered some snack options and served a mean chocolat chaud. We did brave the main, sit-down restaurant one evening and enjoyed - albeit briefly - some typical French cuisine which was right on the money and a welcome treat.

Otherwise, the Beach Lagoon Bar had a great menu for food and cocktails, and the ice-cream/snack bar helped fuel our stops at the outdoor soft play area and parks.

What’s the entertainment like?

There's a bowling alley for indoor fun

To our regret, we were unable to make the evening entertainment as it started a little later than our toddler timetable allowed. If we ever return, we have vowed to enter the karaoke competition and were disappointed to miss the bingo, quizzes and shows this time round.

What is there to do nearby?

Disneyland Paris aerial view

Disneyland Paris is around a 90-minute drive away

Despite there being loads to do, you’re probably looking at this Eurocamp site due to its proximity to key attractions. La Croix du Vieux Pont is about a 90-minute drive from Disneyland Paris and there’s a weekly coach transfer available to book at an additional cost, subject to availability. And Paris city centre is a little further, depending on traffic. Also nearby and fun for all the family is the magical Château de Pierrefonds and the fun-filled Labyrinthe de Maïs corn maze, both around a 30-minute drive away.
