Tested by MNHQ: Read our full review of Eurocamp Duinrell

Duinrell is incredibly popular with Mumsnetters and it pops up time and again on the forums as one of the best Eurocamp sites in the Netherlands. It has its very own theme park on site and is home to one of the best water parks in northern Europe. The Tiki Pool complex has 21 waterslides, including the Pelikaanduik which ends with you splashing into the pool like a pelican dives into the sea.

The site also features a choice of restaurants, a bar, and a supermarket, as well as a range of amenities including padel tennis courts, football pitches, crazy golf, trampolining, and some brilliant children's playgrounds.

With so much on offer you might not want to leave the site, but if you do then Amsterdam is just a 40-minute drive away, or you can hire bikes and explore the nearby beach and the local town of Wassenaar, with its pretty houses and boutiques.

It's also really easy to get to from the UK - just a 30-minute drive from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport and less than an hour's drive from the Hook of Holland for ferry crossings.

We went to De Twee Bruggen with Eurocamp and LOVED it. [...] De Twee Bruggen has a good indoor and outdoor pool with a couple of slides, onsite cafe and lake access nearby. The camping fields for pitching your own were lovely and lots of room and wasn't busy at all last week or August (as Dutch schools have started back by then). [...] Kids loved the park and pump track - can hire bikes etc. I think it's probably the nicest campsite we've been to and we've been to Eurocamping most years for 15 years in France, Italy, and the Netherlands.

Roompot Resort in Zeeland in the Netherlands, or the neighbouring Water Village that shares the facilities? Right on the beach, with indoor pool complex. Activities laid on. Bike hire. Neeltje Jans Delta Park nearby and seal watching trips. There was a great Go Ape place not far away. There are loads of lovely villages and big sandy beaches in Zeeland. Not miles to drive from Calais or Hoek of Holland. They even have some accommodation right on the beach.

Our verdict

Located in a national park, right on the beach, Roompot Beach Resort is a relaxed, welcoming village-style site. Spend your time exploring mile after mile of spotless sandy beaches along the Zeeland coast, and maybe even try your hand at windsurfing.

The site has two playground areas and two trampoline nets to keep active kids happy. And if the weather doesn’t play ball then you can enjoy the on-site subtropical indoor pool. With a wave pool and a giant waterslide, as well as a separate children’s pool, there’s fun to be had for the whole family.

We had an amazing first experience of Eurocamp at Beekse Bergen in the Netherlands over Easter. We paid around ÂŁ100/ night for a simple chalet but had two swimming pools to use (walk in, no booking), more playgrounds than I could count, the safari park, boat ride, included fun fair, beach and lake, trampolines... and free entry to a children's zoo a short drive away. The chalet itself was clean and comfortable and everything worked fine in a basic way. The heaters really kept it warm too which I had worried about before we went. Decently stocked kitchen of things. We will definitely be booking another one soon, we all absolutely loved it.

For a family break with a difference you can’t beat Lake Resort Beekse Bergen. This beautifully designed site features its very own safari park, which you can enjoy for free if you stay for at least three nights. And if that’s not enough, you can also get free access to Speelland attraction park. Oh, and Holland’s biggest theme park, de Efteling, is close enough to visit on a day trip.

The heated indoor aqua complex is fun for all the family, with a waterslide and separate children’s pool. Prefer to swim in natural surroundings? Head to the lakeside beach for a dip.

[...] We have been to Koningshof many times. They have safari tents and wooden cabins if you don't fancy a static. They also have a restaurant and snack bar on site so you wouldn't have to cook every night. They also have a swimming pool (which is currently being refurbished), a play area and games room. Plus a bar for Mum and Dad! Its around 30 minutes by bike to the sea - bikes can be hired on the site if you don't take your own.

Our verdict

Peaceful and playful, Koningshof near Amsterdam is perfect for families who want a taste of the Dutch countryside within easy reach of the capital. The newly renovated indoor pool complex features an indoor-outdoor waterslide, and kids will love the play area and entertainment room. The well-stocked lake lets you enjoy hours of peaceful fishing, before hiring a bike to explore the scenic cycle tracks. Visiting in spring? Then you have to head to the nearby Keukenhof tulip festival.

The park’s pool complex includes a toddler-friendly indoor pool, a thrilling waterslide, and an outdoor pool with a paddling area. And if you still have energy to burn then you can enjoy activities like skateboarding, table tennis, football, and basketball on site.

Do Eurocamps in the Netherlands have WiFi?

Eurocamps in the Netherlands do have WiFi, but check the site you intend to visit for specifics. It might only be available in certain parts of the park and charges may apply.

Can you take dogs to Eurocamps in the Netherlands?

A lot of the Eurocamps in the Netherlands do allow dogs, but some ask for them to be kept on leads and a handful don’t allow them at all. It’s best to check the individual site you’re interested in to find out what they do and don’t allow.

What’s included in the price of a Eurocamp stay?

A Eurocamp stay includes your accommodation, access to kids’ clubs, and use of on-site facilities such as swimming pools, activities, and entertainment. Meals aren't included, so you'll need to prepare your own food or dine at the on-site restaurants. Duvets and pillows are typically provided, but you will need to bring your own linens or reserve them in advance of your trip.

What’s the best Eurocamp site in the Netherlands?

We think the best Eurocamp site in the Netherlands is Duinrell, and lots of Mumsnetters agree. It has one of the best water parks in northern Europe on site, as well as a free theme park with over 40 rides and attractions. And with Amsterdam just a 40-minute drive away it’s also a great base from which to explore more of the Netherlands.

How we chose our recommendations

Because we know that there's nothing like a real recommendation from a fellow parent, we first headed to the Mumsnet forums to find out which Eurocamp sites were being recommended for families.

We then did some research looking at which Eurocamp destinations had won accolades and what customer reviews said about them. We looked at on-site amenities, accommodation options and location. Having collated all that information, we then narrowed our list down to the best Eurocamp sites for families.
