We’ve been to that site many times and always loved it. To get the train into Paris I think you’d need to go to Compiegne. DLP is 90 minutes drive and Parc Asterix 60 minutes. Between Compiegne and the site there’s the Armistice Clearing, well worth visiting and many war cemeteries very close by. On the way to Soissons there’s a tree adventure place and plenty of shops, hypermarche etc in Soissons.

We visited last October half term. Used as a base for visiting Disney & Paris. We went from Villers-Cotterets to Paris on the train, free parking & cost £70 return for 6 of us took just over an hour so visited twice. Lots of interesting Ww1 stuff to do locally. Pierrefonds Chateau was good for an afternoon. The park itself was good, the pool was busy, and it got a little grubby in the changing rooms, but the slides were fab. The local village is about 15 minute walk with Boulangerie etc. Intermarché was a few minutes' drive away in Soissons. The site takeaway was good, busy. My kids are under 10 but as a base it’s great, will go back.

Our verdict

La Croix du Vieux Pont campsite, run by Eurocamp’s sister company Marvilla Parks, is an awesome site that’s about a 3-hour drive from Calais. This big, bustling site has tons to keep the whole family busy and happy, from fishing and crazy golf to football and basketball.

With four swimming pools to choose from, there’s plenty of water-based fun to be had here too. One pool even has a retractable roof so you can swim no matter the weather, and the outdoor pool features two twisty waterslides for thrill-seekers. If you’re after something more chilled, you’ll love the lazy river, waterfalls, and Jacuzzi. While little ones will have a blast in the kids’ pool and spray park.

How to get there from the UK: Ferry to Calais and a three-hour drive.

Which Eurocamp site is closest to Calais?

The closest Eurocamp site to Calais is La Bien Assise in Picardy. It's just under 10 miles (or a 20-minute drive) away from the port.

Which Eurocamp site is the easiest to reach without a car?

The easiest site to get to without a car is Bella Italia in Lake Garda. It's just 14 miles from Verona airport and there's plenty to do in the local area on foot or by using public transport.

What’s included in the price of a Eurocamp stay?

A Eurocamp stay includes accommodation, access to the kids’ clubs, and use of the on-site facilities including swimming pools, activities, and entertainment. Meals aren’t included so you’ll need to make your own food or head to the on-site restaurants. Duvets and pillows are generally provided but you’ll need to bring your own linens and towels, or reserve them in advance of your trip.

How we chose our recommendations

Because we know that there's nothing like a real recommendation from a fellow parent, we first headed to the Mumsnet holiday forum to find out which Eurocamp sites were being recommended there.

We then did some research looking at which Eurocamp sites had won accolades and what customer reviews said about them. We looked at on-site amenities, accommodation options, and how easy the sites are to get to from the UK. Having collated all that information, we then narrowed our list down to the best Eurocamp sites within easy reach of the UK.
