You find us busily setting up a new home for our wonderful project. Will be making a special cosy corner for Soupy's poor blind cat - recently blinded by fiesta and her very bright blanket kit Gin

As has been since the first year, this has been an astonishing team effort, folk never fail to amaze. THANK YOU! x

Our first project thread is here.... That was the one where we frantically made SQUARES and some folk made whole blankets, there was a lot of gin and the word characterful was used a lot Grin

On the last thread we reached the dizzying heights of 64/100 absolutely gorgeous finished blankets, so here's hoping this thread sees us through to target...

Ooooo, and this will be the thread where we share the Early Bird 2019 info if anyone has been inspired or just wants to get ahead! Thanks

The photo is from last year, tis the wonderful group who came to Portsmouth.

Cracking on then Grin

Poor blinded cat is so blind he has settled down in the dog’s bed. For size context, that bed fits a cocker spaniel.

Ooh, I can see one of mine on Soupy's kit. In my defence, there was no Fiesta in it, but a decent amount of Bright Pink which is probably just as eye-watering.

I followed the pesky trail!
Madison - DD and I decided we could manage one this year, and in fact ended up doing 2 , so the equivalent of 1 each . We started after Christmas . I think it also depends on the design - ours were quite simple, with lots of plain squares , so they did join up quickly .
Soupy - is that a bottle of tequilaI I see there ? - I notice you had to display the blanket in the shade to save our eyes Grin. It looks lovely !

Madison g'wan, you can make a whole blanket. I did 8 squares last year, so set myself a target of a whole blanket. Started in January, paused in February, picked it up again in March. Granny squares but with colour changes, each square took about 2 hours. Joining was the hardest because I hadn't done it before and put a couple on the wrong way and I leant that sorting peskies as you go is infinitely better than leaving it until you have a few squares

Marking, so I don't lose you all!

How wonderful are those blankets! The Tequila Sunshine is especially fanbobulastic. I expect all next year's blankets will be photographed with their own special bottle, it would be unfair to do otherwise surely?

Next years' Chernobyl donation shall be dedicated to the Goddess of Sloe Gin I think, though Apricot Brandy is nudging the elbow of my mind to remind me that it too has much to offer.....

Choices choices

I'm 'banking' squares since I can't seem to stop now that I've started... I thought pomegranate was bright but fiesta certainly puts it into the shadows... Grin

Mojitos are currently tickling my taste buds (well, give me half an hour...)

Book and Drop Oh you may have just talked me into a full blanket - I have a year after all! 😂

Well Soupy it's rather vibrant isn't it! And blimey, Cocker Spaniels are exactly small are they 😂

MrsH I love the colours used. How's the little one today?

The way I looked at it Madison - was to do the squares, then if I ran out of time, I was just going to send them in :)

So delighted to be able to share this photo, the first collection for our Chernobyl project 2018 is now with the Isle of Wight group, with the children arriving next week. (IoW in the background of this pic!) A wonderful collection of extras and ice cream funds has gone too. We just can't thank everyone enough, what you do is wonderful and quite extraordinary. ❤️

THANK YOU!!

Soupy I got distracted by your cat-dog and missed the pink. It's...erm....vibrant isn't it?

I can understand now why bright pink was always a banned colour Grin

book that was my thoughts about the joining ... If it proved too tricky, at least I could send in a blanket's worth of squares.

K & P so gorgeous to see the first set of blankets ready for the off

Fantastic photo K&P in my mind I say "Knotty or Pistey" like the rock star in Love Actually when faced with Ant and/or Dec. What a day to arrive!

Thanks Madison for asking after DC3: he went to preschool and they didn't have to phone me so I'm absolutely taking that as a win. We have now also run out of cucumber so 🤷‍♀️

Must be because all my colour vision has been burnt away...

Success!

DH remarks "you're getting speedy at that". Diagonal method is fast and has minimal peskies.

Oooh MrsH, well done!

Now, people, do you join the 4x6" into 1x12" and then join, or do you just join each 6" as you go? Interested in if each of you prefer one way over another.

Report
MrsHathaway · 11/05/2018 15:57

I prefer to make 12" out of 4x6" and then join equal squares, as I find it easier to plan/block and easier to keep the tension even.

That said, some of the finished blankets I like most have had six-inchers in stripes or borders around twelve-inchers and they look very stylish. I don't think I have the eye for that kind of artistic planning, though.

Gosh that photo is lovely K&P
MrsH - thats lovely, and you are so quick ... !
I just have one last border round to do on mine ( Candy's not Chernobyl)
, hopefully it gets finished tonight, and I can post it off tomorrow with the extra squares, and the squares for annandale.
Jux - I prefer to join mine as I go along. I do spend a bit of time faffing around, reorganising the squares until I'm happy with the balance. That includes placing large/small/frilly to best use/advantage. Maybe I am different to everyone else - its more peskies to do them first into 12" I feel , when I can just jump in and get going ( I am a bit impatient, in truth! )

SoupDragon · 11/05/2018 18:06

I put any 6” squares in individually as part of the “pattern”. I rarely put them in as a 4x4 now.
