Wtf is "misgendering"?! Genuinely have no clue what this might be and whatever it is was totally and utterly non-intentional.

To those who doubted - this is 100% genuine.

To those who thought I was being rude that night - I'd like to make the point that nothing I said was directed at the person. I was making genetic statements for the purpose of conversation, not carrying out a personal attack on one person.

If this stays up then I will post a screenshot of the text I received from the PO.

OP, they will take this one down too. I would start another thread so that we can carry on with the discussion.

NotMeOhNo · 07/08/2018 10:17

Given what happened to Posie it sounded plausible to me. You should recount events again for new readers.

NotMeOhNo · 07/08/2018 10:18

Misgendering is using correct pronouns for trans people*

*given pronouns refer to people's sex not their ladybrain or manlygenius

ProperLavs · 07/08/2018 10:19

but OP the person said they were a woman therefore they are a woman, whether you agree with them or not is irrelevant and should have stayed silent like a good little girl. Women, know you place.

BertrandRussell · 07/08/2018 10:20

How did your private conversation become a catalyst for loads of other people having a go too?

ProperLavs · 07/08/2018 10:23

I understood it to mean that the said person went to the police and then complained about lots of people 'abusing' them as well as the op.

Mossandclover · 07/08/2018 10:29

I would be cautious about your chat with the police - I might speak to a solicitor first.

Burntofferings0 · 07/08/2018 10:32

What’s happened?

Mossandclover · 07/08/2018 10:35

Burnt last post when pop due to —the poster not bowing to this will of the patriarchy— misgendering.

Mossandclover · 07/08/2018 10:35

—strikethough fail—

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 07/08/2018 10:35

Whatever you do, when having your chat with the police, DO NOT accept a caution! No-one needs a police-record for having had a private conversation, no matter how "wounded" the person your were talking to was.

Who was it who said "no-one has an absolute right not to be offended"? Whoever that was, was right or we'd all be crying into our beers constantly.

As to the trans person I say "welcome to the world of women! I hope you get used to it. We have had to."

Mossandclover · 07/08/2018 10:35

—again—

Mossandclover · 07/08/2018 10:38

I do wonder how much of the things TRAs are taking offence at is transwomen actually being treated like women when they are used to being treated as men.

longtimelurkingtrans · 07/08/2018 10:40

I would be cautious about about posting anymore or screenshots of what Police are saying if this investigation is still active OP. Always better not to give away free ammo if it can be helped especially in todays climate.

ProperLavs · 07/08/2018 10:43

I said that on another thread which was similar to this one.
Woman put up with this shit all the time, it is part of the lives we lead everyday. of course a trans person whose previous life was as a man would have no idea what it feels like to have been born into and grown up with all of this. I can imagine it will come as a shock to be treated as a woman when you are infact not a woman. I imagine they really just want bits of being a woman, or what they think being a woman is, not the whole shebang, just the handbag and false boobs bit.

qumquat · 07/08/2018 10:49

The whole misgendering as crime thing is intriguing to me. Hannah Gadsby talks a lot about people calling her sir etc in Nanette, it must happen a lot to people who are gender non conforming. Ironically it's not a crime when it's incorrect (ie actual 'missexing') but is a crime/offensive when it's the truth. We've truly stepped through the looking glass.

qumquat · 07/08/2018 10:49

Not that I'm suggesting either should be a crime. To clarify!

longtimelurkingtrans · 07/08/2018 10:50

Although I never experienced the out and out misogyny that you all have suffered, as a gay man I have experienced toxic masculinity and the physical side of homophobia, But I would never dream of insisting twaw and I do acknowledge I'm not changing sex just my outwardly appearance and if ever in a discussion heated or otherwise the Police would never be called over a difference of opinion. I've always been treated differently anyway and if treated badly for dressing as a woman then will just take it in my dignified stride and not be shocked by it.

Winniesalot · 07/08/2018 10:52

Long - you make a good point.

Brief recap - I had a conversation while at a friend's house about at what point men become women during transition. I said "Just because someone carries a handbag and paints their nails it doesn't make them a woman." Said person took terrific offence at this and reported me for a transgender hate crime against them. Police not interested but coming round today to 'have a chat' so they can close the case.

To be clear - my point was not directed at anyone - it was a GENERIC point for the purposes of conversation.

PO coming round today for the "chat".

UpstartCrow · 07/08/2018 10:53

I wouldn't have a heated debate about whether trans women are women with a trans woman.

Winniesalot · 07/08/2018 10:55

This TG person is very trigger-happy with the police. It's basically them saying: "I'm going to tell on you, ner ner ner ner."

OP posts:
Mossandclover · 07/08/2018 10:56

What you say in your ‘chat’ could lead to further investigation so be careful.

This thread will be zapped like the first OP - Good luck with the police btw and be careful re what you tell people on-line.

Winniesalot · 07/08/2018 10:57

Moss - thank you. I will.
