As I was saying about the police.....

Wtf is "misgendering"?! Genuinely have no clue what this might be and whatever it is was totally and utterly non-intentional.

To those who doubted - this is 100% genuine.

To those who thought I was being rude that night - I'd like to make the point that nothing I said was directed at the person. I was making genetic statements for the purpose of conversation, not carrying out a personal attack on one person.

If this stays up then I will post a screenshot of the text I received from the PO.

I don't think the suicide threats have the affect you think they do. Many have reached saturation point, know they're being exaggerated and stopped caring.

Datun · 07/08/2018 12:33

It's like someone's cut off my eyelids and a can't stop seeing you.

Datun · 07/08/2018 12:35

And the police should only be called if a crime has been committed.

This OP, another OP on here, Posie Parker, Linda Bellos, Miranda Yardley.

It's not going unnoticed.

TransplantsArePlants · 07/08/2018 12:35

Disengage

ADarkandStormyKnight · 07/08/2018 12:35

In any other sphere threatening suicide if someone won't comply with your demands is rightly viewed as emotional abuse

No-one has suggested that the transwoman threatened suicide.

FruitOnAPlatter · 07/08/2018 12:37

I'm sure if they were pressurising the OP in some way the OP would not have missed the opportunity to mention it.

Yes, it was a heated discussion - unless you think that OP was saying this thing entirely one-sidedly? How can the OP be being unreasonable putting her point forward, but the other side of the argument be the innocent victim? You don't think they were making their feelings on the subject known? The OP didn't go to the police to complain that the other person was harrassing her by putting forward the idea that that nail varnish and a handbag means you're a woman - as misogynistic as that is.

And the police should only be called if a crime has been committed.

Er, no. You should call the police is you believe a crime has been committed.

LunaTrap · 07/08/2018 12:37

No, I know they didn't. It is YOU who I believe is being manipulative, raising the possibility of suicide as a consequence of a woman daring to speak.

RatRolyPoly · 07/08/2018 12:37

*if

TransplantsArePlants · 07/08/2018 12:38

no-one said wanker

NotMeOhNo · 07/08/2018 12:38

Trans people can exist without calling themselves actual men or women. Why don't they? Why do they have to insist they must be called their desired sex? It turns sex into a mockery of stereotypes.

seafret · 07/08/2018 12:39

Suicide threats in a geuninely mentally ill person are not emotionally abusive in the same way as when made by a non-ill person.

They may be utterly representative of their state of feeling, or they may be manipulative, or something in between but if mental illness is a factor then the person's current state of mind is in question.

This does not absove everything but is a factor.

I can think of a hundred times that I woudl ahev liked to call the police for hateful behaviour against women or disabled people etc.

The problem we have here is that the law is unclear on pronouns - which personally I have always understod to reflect sex not gender and I may use courtesy pronouns at my own discretion, but where does that stand in law?

BarrackerBarmer · 07/08/2018 12:39

OP, you've gone quiet and I hope it's because you are reading and digesting the advice, and not because you are being interviewed without representation in your home right now.

There are women on here who are concerned for you and genuinely want you to get good advice.

Please update us if you can and we'll provide support.

Telling the truth is not a crime. Even in a heated argument.

LangCleg · 07/08/2018 12:39

This thread is a shit show. I'm out.

TransplantsArePlants · 07/08/2018 12:40

Me too Lang

My silliness threatens to get out of hand

Good luck OP

Datun · 07/08/2018 12:40

Er, no. You should call the police is you believe a crime has been committed.

I agree. There needs to be some sharp lessons for the people who called the police on the other OP on here, Posie Parker, Linda Bellos and Miranda Yardley.

And possibly this OP too.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 07/08/2018 12:41

OP, you've gone quiet

Has she been banhammered?

LunaTrap · 07/08/2018 12:42

I doubt anybody really believed an actual crime had been committed. But they know in this climate they can get enough of a response to frighten the 'trangressor' which is a good result for them.

LaSquirrel · 07/08/2018 12:44

Good advice by Rosie and Power - don't fall for the "just a chat" line, particularly as you are the potential defendant in all this. Also, make the time and place convenient to yourself (after you have lined up a solicitor for example).

BeyondRadicalisationPortal · 07/08/2018 12:45

There are consequences to being overly litigious too, sometimes that is suicide.

How do we weigh up who is more likely to suicide? Maybe toss a coin?

LaSquirrel · 07/08/2018 12:46

Datun, good point. It is a growing number of women (and transsexuals) being targeted in this way.

Bespin · 07/08/2018 12:46

do you ever wonder if some threads are just people with other agendas arguing amongst themselves about things

therealposieparker · 07/08/2018 12:47

IMO opinion only truly suicidal and mentally unwell people commit suicide, not people not getting their own way about how people view them in isolation. Perhaps I'm particularly uncaring, but I couldn't care less if someone c threatens suicide because I don't agree with them.

I like Darwin.

Datun · 07/08/2018 12:52

The OP has said none of their comments were directed at this TW personally. That she said the allegation was for a hate crime, not harassment. And that the police have said they want to close the case.

And they are interviewing her today.

Presumably, hopefully, it will all be resolved in the next few hours.
