Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

In reaction to the Government sex segregation Petition response, M&S are finally reconsidering their position on their sexist unsafe and undignified policy.

I have had several discussions with M&S who were very much digging their heels in and putting male feelings ahead of sex segregation exemptions in the EA2010. I had another discussion with them today and they are finally looking at their policy again.

Please take action and message them your feminist concerns.

Including links to a trans woman who admitted to throwing clothes in an aggressive act, at female staff in a woman's changing room.

Sorry - who are you (not in an aggressive way)?

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 06/06/2018 18:10

I have a feeling a few businesses may be reversing barmy decisions made recently. Transactivists did well to scare places into believing they were breaking the law by sex segregating sex segregated areas. But the government response is clear.

AncientLights · 06/06/2018 18:12

Do you have an email address we could write to at M&S for this please?

If OP has managed to achieve that I am assuming they are someone with a bit of clout. No need to reveal personal details. Well done for getting them to consider WineThanks

AsAProfessionalFekko · 06/06/2018 18:31

I was just curious if the op is Jo Public or someone in the industry / politician (no need to name names!) - so are now listening to 'ordinary women' over the activists.

OneHourTwentyFourMinutes · 06/06/2018 18:33

I am Jo Public.

OP posts:
Ereshkigal · 06/06/2018 18:37

That's even better!

AsAProfessionalFekko · 06/06/2018 18:38

Thanks Jo!

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 06/06/2018 18:41

Good work Ms Public!

Waddlelikeapenguin · 06/06/2018 18:57

Well done Jo!

Everyone the live chat option on M&S was easy to use :-)

Kyanite · 06/06/2018 19:01

If they have to close anymore stores they'll disappear...

Giddy99 · 06/06/2018 19:01

So how do you propose M&S make this workable, How are they going to tell who is male and who is female. Who are Transgender and who are not. There are many women that look masculine, and many men who look feminine, Many women have deep voices , the same as quite a few men have soft voices.
What do you suggest they actually do to make sure the right gender are using the correct changing rooms, Are you going to expect people to show their birth certificates before trying on clothes. Which would fail as Trans men who do not have a GRS will be told to use the female changing rooms, There are many Trans women that you could not tell they are Trans, The whole situation would be a farce.
So please tell me how you expect M&S to enforce this.

OneHourTwentyFourMinutes · 06/06/2018 19:04

Trans people can fight as women and people with disabilities did, for their specialist spaces and services.

Most people can tell, even as small children, who is a man and who is a woman.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 06/06/2018 19:08

It's tricky because surely this is throwing out the transsexuals (yes I know it's an old fashioned word but there it is) with the trans-non commitals.

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 06/06/2018 19:11

How are they going to tell who is male and who is female.

By using their eyes.

Yes some trans people pass. It seems to be fairly rare, but they do exist.

Noone is advocating genital checks or anything. Which is generally what is brought up next, then claimed that feminists asked for them!

It will be enforced the same way it always was really. By expecting people to use the correct area for their sex and not making everything unisex. It was a silly idea. Everything worked fine as it was.

Also many women are accepting of transsexual women using womens areas. It tends to be the 'any man who says he is a woman can come in' that is the issue.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 06/06/2018 19:13

Oh fuck yeah. It's totally unworkable. It's absolutely impossible to tell men from women without intrusive checks involving rubber gloves, a cavity search and some bloke with PhD in Woke Studies conducting interviews with your mitochondrial DNA.

Completely unworkable policy. Back to gender feelz guys.

thebewilderness · 06/06/2018 19:15

So how do you propose M&S make this workable, How are they going to tell who is male and who is female. Who are Transgender and who are not.

The same way everyone else does.
The honor system for the most part, and challenging or redirecting those who are reported.
After years of managing sex segregated changing rooms I do not think people will have forgotten how after a few months of wankers getting away with forcing their way in.

Quite.

That's not womens problem, is it?

gendercritter · 06/06/2018 19:37

It's really really not hard to tell what sex someone is. If someone passes that well and they go to use, say, the female changing room and do so quietly/respectfully, most of the time that isn't going to cause any drama.

OneHourTwentyFourMinutes · 06/06/2018 19:40

I am sorry for the Transexuals whom we have had little bother with all these years. You now have to fight your own fight for your own special spaces and services. Women are now working on fighting for all that we lost via, the 2010 EA and 2004 GRA.

Unfortunately Stonewall expanded the Trans umbrella to include people who have caused problems and taken away our human rights, our dignity, our privacy, our safety and consent. We now have to fight for everything all over again as a result.

It's your community that is at fault here, please stop pointing the finger at women and look to those who caused the situation and mess were are all, now in.

OP posts:
SeahorsesAREhorses · 06/06/2018 19:44

We would just like to retain our sex based rights and protections, that's all. As for how will you tell, seriously? Stop believing the earth is flat, it isn't. Stop believing that women don't exist, we do.

loveyouradvice · 06/06/2018 19:45

Hurrah! I'll write ... I imagine every voice counts... and ironically I have a few of their shares, so Ill throw that in for good measure!

And? They're still men.
