Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

In reaction to the Government sex segregation Petition response, M&S are finally reconsidering their position on their sexist unsafe and undignified policy.

I have had several discussions with M&S who were very much digging their heels in and putting male feelings ahead of sex segregation exemptions in the EA2010. I had another discussion with them today and they are finally looking at their policy again.

Please take action and message them your feminist concerns.

Including links to a trans woman who admitted to throwing clothes in an aggressive act, at female staff in a woman's changing room.

@OneHourTwentyFourMinutes It's your community that is at fault here, please stop pointing the finger at women and look to those who caused the situation and mess were are all, now in.

What's that saying? "When you point a finger there are three fingers pointing back at you"

Very very apt. Along with the one about making your own bed...

thebewilderness · 06/06/2018 19:53

It's tricky because surely this is throwing out the transsexuals (yes I know it's an old fashioned word but there it is) with the trans-non commitals.

What is the tricky part? That they be expected use the sex segregated space made available for them? How exactly is that "tricky"?

misscockerspaniel · 06/06/2018 19:55

By using their eyes Grin

And for anyone who claims that they can't distinguish between a man and a woman, they might find it helpful to remove their rose-tinted spectacles.

Thanks and well done Op.

FoxOnSecurity · 06/06/2018 19:55

Interesting, but the thing is the first time they refuse a trans person from a changing room, they could be in a whole heap of legal trouble, also who's going to police it and how? What gives someone the right to say that your male or female? What happens if a shop person refuses a masline female person from a changing room and so on. It's not workable

TIM's are easy to spot but if there is any doubt, ask them to speak. Without quite invasive, expensive surgery their voices remain male.

Macareaux · 06/06/2018 19:59

What do you mean it's not workable Fox? It's been working for DECADES.

SameTerfDifferentUserName · 06/06/2018 20:00

Excellent! Well done OP! I’ve had several pleasant exchanges with them and they told me that they would be ‘reviewing’ their policy in the Summer once they’d had ‘customer feedback’. Topshop basically told me to fuck off, so TOPSHOP can FUCK OFF and won’t be getting my custom again, M&S is in with a chance!

thebewilderness · 06/06/2018 20:01

The only reason it is suddenly not workable, after 100 years of working reasonably well, is that the men have decided to use trans issues to roll back women's rights and drive women out of the public sphere.

Believe it or not men actually got laws passed on the sly that men are women if they say so. 8th rule of misogyny: Men are whatever men say they are and women are whatever men say they are.
Obedience uber alles.

SameTerfDifferentUserName · 06/06/2018 20:03

Where CAN we shop these days? Where doesn’t have a completely batshit policy?

OneHourTwentyFourMinutes · 06/06/2018 20:04

It's not easy to hide that square jaw, that Adam's apple, those large hands, that male pattern balding, that towering height, that affected manner, that badly-applied makeup, those size ten shoes, that prominent forehead, that sense of entitlement, that five o'clock shadow ... the list goes on and on. Not every thing on every person. But enough. We see you. We have inbuilt man radar. We're just too polite to mention it most of the time.

We can tell who is a man from sight, sound, texture of the skin and smell.

Most AGP TIMs transition later in life and will almost certainly not pass even with FFS which most will not have had.

They are the ones I really really really don't want in female spaces so I think we'll quite easily be able to tell.

OneHourTwentyFourMinutes · 06/06/2018 20:08

Interesting, but the thing is the first time they refuse a trans person from a changing room, they could be in a whole heap of legal trouble

M&S have to weigh up legal trouble from 1% of the population V legal trouble from 99% of the population. As we saw in Hampstead, men don't like sharing spaces with women. A class action from the bigger group and a fall in custom from the bigger group makes me think M&S will be very receptive to creating some trans specialist spaces for you.

RTFT. It's less than 40 posts FFS.

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 06/06/2018 20:32

Well done OP.

thebewilderness · 06/06/2018 20:36

I think we are all perfectly aware that some men have always violated women's right to privacy, Fox. I expect they will continue to do so. It is unlikely that M&S will choose the rights of the voyeur over their customer base.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 06/06/2018 20:38

There is a shop that I go into to buy women's clothes (it also sells mens and kids) and one assistant wears women's clothes (definitely - we have the same trousers and blouse) but the beard is a giveaway. This person chooses to wear whatever they like and to not shave their face. Now, should they be put 'manning' the changing rooms rather than the tills, how would I feel?

If they were attempting to present as a woman - that's one thing (you can't exactly ask what the status of their takle is can you?) but a manly flat chest and a beard is just not trying to be a woman - it's something else. What is it then? Who are they? Why would they expect to be given a green card to come into a woman space (not that I know if they would want to)?

Pratchet · 06/06/2018 20:39

So how do you propose M&S make this workable, How are they going to tell who is male and who is female

Simply would not be an issue if TRA hadn't pushed women's boundaries in the first place. Any rare problem with a masculine-looking woman will be entirely and 100 per cent the fault of transactivists who have encouraged males to use women's spaces inappropriately.

How about TRA donthe decent thing and say, you know, we understand female concerns and we won't try to force access for any male who wants it?

AsAProfessionalFekko · 06/06/2018 20:42

I've never liked changing rooms and rarely use them. It's not a matter of life or death and I choose just not to bother - as would any other man, woman or seahorse who doesn't feel comfortable using a changing room.

This whole mantra of 'I must...' is not besed on a basic need but a drive to be 'accepted' as a woman (well steamrolleing and intimidating anyway).

RaininSummer · 06/06/2018 20:46

I will send an email. Good work OP. Mind you, the way m and s 'fashion' us going, transwomen may be the only ones who like their clothes.

OneHourTwentyFourMinutes · 06/06/2018 20:49

I’ve had several pleasant exchanges with them and they told me that they would be ‘reviewing’ their policy in the Summer once they’d had ‘customer feedback’.

I very important we all get as many people as possible to give feedback that we want a return to sex segregated spaces.

If anyone can get a Mail journalist interested, get this out to the public and get the public to Lobby M&S too. I think Amy would be good or Sweary, as this has potential to happen on the back of their campaigns.

OneHourTwentyFourMinutes · 06/06/2018 20:53

I want to shop in M&S for some summer trousers and a basic white top. My kids want some Percy Pigs before Jamie Oliver snatches them away.

The sooner M&S sort this, the sooner I will be in there spending again.

Exactly, women are saying no. But still they try to force. Reminds me a bit of that other thing people with penises do..you know..rape.

GibbertyFlibbert · 06/06/2018 20:57

The only bit which is a single sex space is the bit behind the curtains and I don't intend to share! I've known women invite husbands and boyfriends into the communal space to see them in potential purchases - it's definitely not single sex.

This is a made up problem not a real one.

FoxOnSecurity · 06/06/2018 20:58

@chickenme you know women can rape as well? And commit other sexual offences as well.
