We have been out for lunch at DD's favourite restaurant.
We had a bathtub of gin!! Grin
DD has asked me to order it every time we've been for years and I never have, but today I did! My DM and I shared it (and DD had a few sneaky sips!Wink) home for a nap now then party later.

Thinking of you mzzz and hoping everything is ok 🤞

Is anyone else feeling completely exhausted? I might have to go and have a nap. DS2 came home a bit early from D&D as he was feeling so tired.

Sorry for being a drama queen everyone: it has been a hectic day!

DS did well, but we had a long chat this morning and despite getting enough to get in, he's decided to stay at his current school. I'm ok about it. I wanted him to go to the selective sixth form but his happiness is important and I'm sure he'll do well at the current school too.

I've had a brief scan of the thread and there seems to be quite a few reasons to be happy today. Congratulations to those who got what they wanted and sympathy to those who have had some challenges today.

AlwaysHid1ng · 23/08/2018 15:51

Absolutely shattered here! Have napped in the car. Heading out for an early celebratory meal, followed by early bedtimes all round.

DD was actually sick with relief, which shows what a huge impact the stress has had on her.

Very well done to all students and their parents, whatever the grades.

We did it.

GCSEs 9-1 have finally arrived.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 23/08/2018 15:51

BackforGood DS3 also disappointed in a 6 for computing which he was predicted an 8 for and wants to do for A level. He's got the minimum required though. Well done your DD.

BlueBelle more brilliant results!

We're out to 5 Guys (sigh) later to celebrate.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 23/08/2018 15:52

And I haven't opened the gin yet, honest :-D

TerfTerf2 · 23/08/2018 15:53

OMG lobster! That looks so lush Grin

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 23/08/2018 15:54

mmmz, thought it might be something like that. Great to see you though. Who else would organise us so well? Except for Peggy or Sticker or ... Wink

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 23/08/2018 15:55

mmmz please tell us about his maths result!

TerfTerf2 · 23/08/2018 15:55

Glad you're here safe and sound mmmz and well done to DS got making a tough decision. That's really something to be proud of Smile

AlwaysHid1ng · 23/08/2018 15:57

@mmmz congratulations to DS on his achievements. And also to you on supporting him to make the decision he feels is best for him. Not easy to do from a parental perspective.

Also hope everything is okay with DM.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 23/08/2018 15:57

Congrats to DS mmmz

As you kind of say they have to start making their own choices round about now, and staying with friends for sixth form is very understandable and has a lot going for it for those fortunate to have that option.

mmmz · 23/08/2018 16:04

Maths: 227/ 240.

I'd be interested to hear his maths teachers thoughts! Pleased for Ds? confused?

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 23/08/2018 16:06

mmmz Wow! DS3 was really pleased with 211!

JufusMum · 23/08/2018 16:09

Home from buying the MacBook that DH promised DD if she got into high achieving sixth form. DH looks a little pale.

DD results;
English Language 7
Maths 5
RE 8
Science 7-7 massive shock
Geography 8
Drama 6
German 3 this is odd. She got a 5 in the mock and we had a private tutor after that. She said she found the exams quite easy and answered every question. Only one student in the entire school passed German. I think it's a bit fishy. Mind you they didn't have a German teacher from January onwards. They had a PE teacher who lived in Germany for a year when he was ten. I kid you not.

Anyway this is WAY more than we expected certainly did not expect any 8's to come out of School From Hell. So all good.
Enrolled in first choice sixth form.

Massive congrats to all DC on here seriously some fantastic results.

farangatang · 23/08/2018 16:09

What incredible results for everyone's DCs - it sounds as if all the hard work and support has paid off.

Terf my DD can relate to how your DS is feeling, but in a few months (at most) I'm sure they won't even be thinking about GCSE grades, because they'll all be enjoying sixth form life so much working too hard for the next set of exams!

We have the result of our exam investigation, and unfortunately the grade stands - DD sure chose a fine time to drop the ball with her English Lit! She also underachieved in Spanish, with 2 grades below predicted (unsurprising after her disastrous Spanish speaking exam!) Trying to help her feel proud that all results are A (or 9) down to B (6) grades, so the two missed A/8 grades don't really matter. I'm just so proud she coped with the entire process at all (as many others know, ASD and anxiety don't make it particularly easy) and her B in Maths has to be the hardest-earned B ever, having pushed up from failing in Year 10!

Crossing fingers she can still take English Lit at A Level - she's decided not to resit, but get the A* in two years time instead Grin

Enjoy celebrating the fact that our DC are moving on to their next steps, with heads held high!

sandybayley · 23/08/2018 16:15

@mmmz - glad all is OK. I think we have to let the DC start making their own choices now but I can imagine it's going to be hard for us all. Funnily enough we received the electoral register update form today as all 16 year olds in the house need to be listed. The DC are definitely growing up.

Have given up work for the day as feel a bit emotionally exhausted and distracted. Plus have shiny new phone to play with.

DS1 has taken Ddog for a walk and is now playing Wii with his sister. He's insisted on a pub for dinner which is dog friendly. Really great pleased he can have a relaxing few days before school starts next Thursday.

AChickenCalledKorma · 23/08/2018 16:15

mmmz that's a fantastic maths result. I wish we could all have been flies on the wall when pushy maths teacher saw it! Sounds like you have made some difficult choices today and I really hope that sixth form works out well for him.

sandybayley · 23/08/2018 16:17

@JufusMum - so pleased you can wave good bye to the school from hell!
