Hi Rufus yes, I remember and it's good to hear your DD did well. Those who sat exams while struggling with health issues have my total admiration.

Ggirl I really hope you can persuade them. How stressful to have to wait over the long weekend. Are there any other options offering a similar course or have you already done the rounds?

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 23/08/2018 17:42

Let us know how you get on Ggirl fingers crossed. It'll depend on numbers wanting to do the course. If it's not oversubscribed they'll probably want him anyway. You can use the argument that it's his first choice course, not one that he's been forced to consider. Good luck.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 23/08/2018 18:02

Fingers crossed Ggirl

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 23/08/2018 18:04

Thank you achicken

She got the grades I expected a healthy dd to get...well slightly better in a few to be honest

And weve just told her that she did 100 times better than dh and i Grin

KittiesInsane · 23/08/2018 18:04

This thread is joyous and sobering in about equal measure.

DD is still swinging from 'How did I get a 7 instead of 5 in Maths?' to 'How come I got a 7 instead of 9 in English?' (I think the answer is probably 'You worked your socks off for the 7 in Maths and you panicked at the prediction for English') but she's comfortably into her chosen 6th form.

Her best friend is still waiting to hear whether the same 6th form will take her with an unexpected 4 for English instead of the requested 6.

Sostenueto · 23/08/2018 18:13

Hello! Just checking in briefly then off for surprise party for dgd and her 4 friends! Posh meal and no doubt they will be rowdy, us parents and grandparents will be anyway!!!! Glad for everyones results and awestruck by the dcs achievements, some under illness and disabilities absolutely fantastic!

Sostenueto · 23/08/2018 18:14

Sostenueto · 23/08/2018 18:17

Grammy78 · 23/08/2018 18:20

My DC got 2's for english and maths. No idea what this means for them until they meet with the college they want to go to.

chuntersalot · 23/08/2018 18:28

I’m struggling to catch up with the thread. Was crying actual tears waiting in the school reception with the DTs. As it turned out we opened the envelopes together and with my cousin and her DC.

DTs both got the grades required to stay at their current school which is great because neither had a Plan B Shock

So here’s how it landed for them:
DT1
1 x A *
2 x 8
2 x 7
4 x 6
1 x C
1 x D2

DT2
2 x 7
2 x 6
2 x 5
1 x 4
1 x 3
2 x D2

We are happy Grin

Congratulations to all our DC

TheThirdOfHerName · 23/08/2018 18:31

Just found out from the school that DS2 got 97% in his Further Maths exam (169/175) so he had a good margin above the grade boundary between A* and A^ (150).

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 23/08/2018 18:36

sost she's fine. Further posts up thread. Smile

chuntersalot · 23/08/2018 18:40

Forgot to add that the Twins got both the same grade and raw marks in Maths - Grade 7 and 149/240 (Edexcel). They are fraternal twins (DD & DS) so I do find this result a bit strange but I suppose it would have been stranger if there were more matches

LooseAtTheSeams · 23/08/2018 18:44

Just checking in on new thread to say well done to mmmz's DS and I hope the maths department start showing him some respect!Grin
I am drained as a teacher and a parent today but planning to have some wine with friends later. Must just tell you I coached a student with English as a third language through iGCSE English this year and she got a 7! I actually did shed tears over that one!
Ggirl I've taught some amazing students who have gone to top universities who had a day like you've had today. It will get better. In the meantime I'm sending hugs and Thanks and hoping there is good news about the courses on Tuesday.

TerfTerf2 · 23/08/2018 18:48

Just got lovely text from friend - her autistic/ADD/dyslexic son passed 7 GCSEs, predicted to get none or one. Only failed maths but happy to refit alongside his dreamed-of two A levels. More proud of him than anyone else (known him since he was born and watched the struggles he's had) ❤️

sandybayley · 23/08/2018 18:48

@TheThirdOfHerName - you must be very proud. He has done so well. He is going to fly in 6th form I think.

IdahoJones · 23/08/2018 18:54

DP's daughter's 5th and final attempt at maths ended in a 3. That's it then. She's 19, refusing to do it again.

letstalk2000 · 23/08/2018 18:54

Thank you Back for Good. DSs results being so good has created a conundrum for me. This being his school (Private) have told me he is capable of doing A levels illustrated by his great progress over the last 18 months. However, they say he would probably need 3 years to ace hive the results he is capable of.

DS wants to do A levels . The trouble with this being in 3 years time and having an October birthday , he will be 5 months shy of his 21st birthday when he takes his A level exams !

He might be okay going to school as young '18' but what will he think when he is 20 and a half !.

letstalk2000 · 23/08/2018 18:58

I have visions of him leaving a 'disco ' at 2 am and being hung over for school at 7...

ReservoirDogs · 23/08/2018 19:17

I'm checked into the new thread too.

Mmmz - fab Maths result - oi teacher - put that in your pipe!

Third - that is exceptional for Further Maths!

Sorry to hear GGirl and Terrana's news but don't leave us. Perhaps when the colleges have reviewed the cohort as a whole they will review entrance requirements.

Peanutbuttercups21 · 23/08/2018 19:19

My brother resat gcses and a levels and was 20 when he went to uni (to fail his first year, and take 2 gap years in the middle (not posh gap years but working in local factory, cleaning and a bit of building) and getting his degree at 27.

He now is in his 40s and very successful professionally Grin

Some people just need a more roundabout way to get where they want to get.

Peanutbuttercups21 · 23/08/2018 19:19

(That was to letstalk2000)

rogueelement · 23/08/2018 19:26

Well done to everyone whose DC's did so well and thanks for supporting me last week. I might be adding a bit of balance to all those wonderful 9s! Smile

DD's final results came through - 2 x 3s including a high 3 in Maths which actually for someone who was really and properly dyscalculic when she started secondary is pretty amazing. Overall she passed just one GCSE, but it looks like she has scraped together enough to be accepted onto a Level 2 course at the college she is desperate to go to, even without consideration of her health issues this year. She was a bit sad but then worked out all the grades and got quite excited. Has now gone off to a post-results party.

It's all relative isn't it? Next week we have to make sure she actually does get offered a place, but I am fairly hopeful. She already looks like a great weight has lifted, but I won't break open the gin until the place is secure!

PandaG · 23/08/2018 19:53

Some amazing results, just caught up with the thread, been helping a friend move house all day.
DD smashed it for her. 2x9, 4x8, 3x7 1x6 and 1x4. History went from 3 in the mock, (she had concentrated on other, less strong subjects) to 8 in the real thing! So pleased for her.

Hope those whose results were not quite as they had wanted are able to negotiate a plan b.

hmcAsWas · 23/08/2018 19:56

I'm almost scared to post because I don't want to miss out anyone in congratulating those who have done well or offering support to those who are disappointed …..but I am very knackered (poor sleep for past week) and haven't got it in me to name check and reference everyone as I feel that I should. I think its going to be an early night for me this evening!

Glad that mmmz has posted and that all is well there, did note those great results for your dd Sticker - well done indeed Smile

Sorry (it seems an inadequate word, but I am sorry) for the disappointed dc who have missed key grades or feel that they haven't achieved what they wanted / deserved. If Peggy stops by later she'll probably tell you about her dd who has really flourished in further education after a shaky start with GCSEs. GCSEs marking can be a bit of a lottery, so I am acutely aware that it could literally be any of our dc with a grade or grades that don't fully reflect their ability. I do believe that things happen for a reason and that although it might not feel like it now, everything will work out. Sorry for the rambling - its the fatigue
