Hi, sorry to join late. My DD got the 7’s required by her first choice sixth form for A level biology & chemistry but they also ask for a 7 in maths for chemistry and DD got a 6. They sent an email asking that students don’t call about results and to attend their scheduled enrolment session (tomorrow) and they’ll discuss it then. Does anyone know if she’s likely to not be accepted with the lower maths grade?

TheThirdOfHerName · 23/08/2018 20:14

rogueelement fingers crossed that they accept her on to the course

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 23/08/2018 20:33

Brilliant, rogue! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Captain it might depend on how close she was to a 7, whether her maths teachers think she's capable of better and it was an anomaly and maybe whether the course is under subscribed. Good luck.

LARLARLAND · 23/08/2018 20:38

DS got a great set of results overall although he wants to appeal a few subjects he is tantalisingly close to the higher grade boundary. Result of the day was a high 9 in history.

BackforGood · 23/08/2018 20:45

Well done to RogueElement's dd.

My dd seems to have disappeared into evolving 'post GCSE' parties.
I dropped her at one friend's before lunch, she messaged early this evening to ask if one of us would collect her from a different address and take her to a party at a third. Not sure where / when I will see her next. Grin

ReservoirDogs · 23/08/2018 20:46

Rogueelement - a friend's son got D*D o his level 2 after passing one gcse last year (maths). Unfortunately he just failed his english again but has been allowed on to his level 3 coutse.

AlexanderHamilton · 23/08/2018 20:48

I do hope that those whose children didn’t get what they wanted or needed don’t feel disheartened by the high achievers.

Whilst I am obvioudky celebrating Dds excellent results & hard work today I am very aware that in two years time I will be panicking over whether Ds can scrape a 4 in English (currently predicted 2) in order to get onto a drama & music course.

Lauren0rder · 23/08/2018 21:08

Amazing results!!!!

2 x A*
5 x As
5 x Bs

Absolutely smashed it.

Jinglebells99 · 23/08/2018 21:21

Really proud of my dd’s results. She got 4 x 8 (one is one mark off a 9) 5 x 7 ( one one mark off a 8) one A and a B . I do feel a bit sad that we don’t have an extended family to be pleased for her. My mum would have been proud but sadly had a devastating stroke some years ago. I will tell my dad but he doesn’t really understand, and my siblings just wouldn’t be interested . My mil is pleased though and my sil. Dd is quite private too so wouldn’t want to share on Facebook.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 23/08/2018 21:38

Similar story here, Jingle! Celebrate here where it's anonymous. Great results from your DD, better than my DS but I'm still really happy for him, too. Star

Jinglebells99 · 23/08/2018 21:47

Aw thanks Ellen :) well done to your ds too, nine in maths is amazing :). Think we will go for a remark in English as she is one mark off a 9 and only lost three marks in the other paper, so 97% on that paper, which sounds amazing to me lol.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 23/08/2018 21:52

It is amazing. Well worth a remark. Nothing to lose but a bit of cash.

goodbyestranger · 23/08/2018 21:53

Not really commenting on those whose DC are disappointed but taking it all in. I'm very clear that a lot of this is about sheer luck - good schools, good teachers, no illness, no domestic difficulties etc. One of my DC has been working with DC at a London school where difficulties are everywhere. It's sobering, as a pp has said.

Theworldisfullofgs · 23/08/2018 21:53

jingle I get that. Dd said today she would have loved to have rung granny who died almost exactly 5 years ago. It's nice to know she still thinks about her.

JustDanceAddict · 23/08/2018 21:56

Wahey!
5 9s
3 8s
2 7s

She smashed it and far exceeded expectations. Congrats to those who did well and sorry for those who didn’t quite make it. I did badly in gcses and survived (even got a degree!)

Stickerrocks · 23/08/2018 22:00

Similar on one side here too Jingle

I usually rely on Sost for wise words, but I increasingly find myself trying to live by "We cannot change the wind, but we can adjust the sails", whether we apply it to sixth form choices, topsy turvy grades, results which take us by surprise, illness or elderly parents.

Congrats to all with super achievements for your DC. For those with unexpected results hope new doors open with new perhaps even better possibilities.

Have had a surreal day. Celebrating DDs results quietly - she likes to underplay things followed by doctors visit for her ongoing depression. She had near perfect results but today put it all into perspective - the fact that we are dealing with both these things on the same day. Only telling immediate family her actual results - rest just that she has done well and that she is happy with them.

Finished off today with a nice meal to DD choice restaurant with her best friend with us.

I am utterly drained.

AChickenCalledKorma · 23/08/2018 22:08

I too am really wishing we could tell my mum. She died in January and would have been an immensely proud granny today. It was bittersweet phoning my dad to tell him DDs results as I know he was feeling the same.

TerfTerf2 · 23/08/2018 22:11

I'm exhausted! Went for long swim with friend, we talked exam results and giggled about the strange people that always seem to come in the pool at same time as us. Got home and DS was totally cheered up and looking forward to SFC enrolment tomorrow.

So pleased for all your DCs, we're all brilliant ⭐️⭐️

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 23/08/2018 22:13

I know. My dad died 14 years ago but he's still the person I'd want to share it with. My mum died 4 years ago but it wasn't her thing. The boys can share it with their own dad at least, but we don't talk.
Thank goodness for MN, I say. Smile

Sostenueto · 23/08/2018 22:28

Back from posh meal with dd, dgd 5 besties and parents! Much celebration took place, meal was superb and funny to see the DC starting off posh and very ladylike but by end of meal raucous with much laughter! What a relief for us all! Onwards and upwards to the next stage of our dcs wonderful lives!
On way home dgd was singing all the little songs she used to sing at primary when she was very youngSmile and she said it would be lovely to be so young again as she feels so 'old' after exam seasonShock. We were also treated to a hymn! ( thought that was a bit ottShock). I said well by the time A levels are over you will be about ready to draw your pension!Grin

KingscoteStaff · 23/08/2018 22:40

You are so right about missing parents at a time like this. My dad, who died last year, loved DS so much and would have been beside himself with pride - especially for his Music result!

sandybayley · 23/08/2018 22:41

What a day. Stuffed with cake and cider. Back to work and gym tomorrow.

Stickerrocks · 23/08/2018 22:46

hmc So I've paid for the season ticket & DD will be sticking with her original choice of A levels despite some topsy turvy results. I would wave at you at the college gates, but somehow I doubt that we'll be allowed near the premises.

Good night and a restful night to all parents - what a super bunch of DC we have whether they achieved/exceeded or missed expected grades we should be proud of how our children have grown. Onwards and upwards, whatever their path.
