Jufus fantastic results from the SfH. Great news that she's into the sixth form of choice. Onwards and upwards!

Great results despite SfH Jufus

You have a very mature DD farangatang and they are a great set of results.

TheThirdOfHerName · 23/08/2018 16:21

mmmz you've had quite a day!

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 23/08/2018 16:22

Wow mmmz that's amazing and congrats to you all. Glad all is well Flowers

Dd was over the moon with her 203. Absolutely no effort wasted!

In the aftermath I'm now pondering the discrepancy between her RS and Eng Lang.

RS - 1 hour a week of teaching. Teacher absent for 4 months so no work done. Revision time 30 minutes in total (lunch break before the exam). Result = 6

Eng Lang - 4 hrs a week teaching time plus 1 hr intervention a week from Christmas plus tutor Sept to April. Revision time 50 hours +. Result = 5.

Not that we're disappointed with the 5. It's my favourite result! I just find it odd when really the two subjects use similar skill.

I suppose it's a reflection of the new exams and how dd performed relative to others. Everyone tried harder in English so grade boundaries reflected that.

My friend whose dd is taking RS as a proper option next year thinks it is great Grin

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 23/08/2018 16:24

Oh no

TerfTerf2 · 23/08/2018 16:30

Hugs mmmz, please go and have a rest and BrewCake you've earned it!

AlwaysHid1ng · 23/08/2018 16:30

Reported.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 23/08/2018 16:30

Amazingly I know a RL DC who got all 9s!

letstalk2000 · 23/08/2018 16:33

I'm over the moon (excuse the pun) DS 17 with 'significant' SEN has achieved grade 6s in English Lit/ Language, Double Science and level 5 in Maths . He himself is overjoyed , in 18 months he has gone from attaining expected grades of 3 in the English GCSEs , grade 2 in Maths . he really deserves it due to the incredible amount of effort he has put in .

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 23/08/2018 16:34

Aw, brilliant results, better in both English than my supposedly NT DS!

Ggirl27 · 23/08/2018 16:39

Well today has made me feel like absolute rubbish - my DS got 1 x 6, 1 x 5, 5 x 4 and 2 x 3. He's obviously far below the predicted 7's his sh!tty school gave him and he got his hopes up for them to be dashed. All the college courses he applied for are out of his reach and I feel angry and deflated. He worked so hard, did every bit of coursework, every revision class, revised for hours and it made no difference for him. He just goes to pieces in exams. Congrats to all of your DC's but there's very little celebration in my house Sad

letstalk2000 · 23/08/2018 16:44

Thank you Ellen . His achievements out strip DD 1s 5 A* (3 years ago and whatever DD2 will get next year !

AChickenCalledKorma · 23/08/2018 16:46

Ggirl Sad

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 23/08/2018 16:46

I'm so sorry, Ggirl

Are there any BTEC courses he could do? My DS2 has just completed a level 3 BTEC that required 5 x C to join and was worth 3 A levels.

brainmelt · 23/08/2018 16:46

Finally got to a computer after show and celebratory lunch. Congrats to everyone, so many DCs surpassing expectations, and specially those overcoming added difficulties and obstacles Star Star Star
Impossible to remember names, that can only be done by mmzz's brain.
mmzz very best to your DS on his decision, I'm sure it'll be for the best.
sost yay on that Geography. We told you...

I'm also exhausted and had too much beer for lunch. DS happy with his performance today, he says it was the best so far, I told him it was the happiness.

brainmelt · 23/08/2018 16:48

Sorry to hear, hand holding Ggirl Sad

Tarrarra · 23/08/2018 16:49

My lovely ds has managed to pass all of his but with 4s and 5s rather than the 6s,7s and 8s he was predicted. He's a bit down, but I have reminded him that they are passes, and that in the scheme of things, it will all be forgotten. Have to hope that he has enough to get him on his Alevel course - they wanted 6s really, but I hope I can persuade them. If not, we'll have to go for plan B, whatever that is! I'm as proud as punch, as he's had a tough year with ASD, and anxiety all in the mix. Exams are shit, and I've just told him that whatever he has is enough for me, and I would be proud whatever numbers were on the sheet!

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 23/08/2018 16:52

Do look at BTEC as well Tarrana. Much less focused on exams, if that's where he struggles. Much more on course work.

TerfTerf2 · 23/08/2018 17:01

Ggirl hugs for you and DS. I hope you can find a useful person/school to talk him through his options. I know my friend's DS will be starting a couple of BTecs at L2 while doing gcse resits alongside, all at the same college, who are being amazingly flexible about adapting to individual needs. Stay strong and good luck Thanks

Cherryburn · 23/08/2018 17:10

Just got back from lunch out (not with DS, he’s gone to Reading Hmm)
and I’ve now completely lost track of all the results on here and the previous thread. I’ll go back and read properly but in the meantime Sticker Sandy and mzzz delighted to see that your DC did so well and mzzz in the end the decision on whether to move or stay had to be your DS’s. Otherwise your life might not have been worth living for the next 2 years!!

Cblue · 23/08/2018 17:11

Just wanted to say congratulations to everyone who got the results they were after and to send a big hug to those that didn't.
All OK here except DD has been told her new subjects (she wanted to change them) don't fit into the subject blocks..... if they move computer science it would work and there's only one other DC doing the subject, so all is not lost (yet). As a result she hasn't enrolled anywhere!!!

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 23/08/2018 17:28

Really sorry Ggirl its a dreadful shock, Ds1 is very similar, bright and works but sit him in an exam hall and it all disappears!

I dont know if anyone remembers me but i pretty much appeared in the first thread concerned about my daughter who has ME...then i buggered off and never returned. Dreadfully rude of me

Anyway...dd did well and we are very proud of her

Ggirl27 · 23/08/2018 17:33

Thanks all. He was going to do a BTEC anyway as he excels at coursework but not at exams. But they wanted a 5 in a subject which he got a 4 in and a 6 in the subject he got a 5 in - I will try to persuade them but I'm not hopeful. Have to wait until Tuesday for the meeting - which means a rubbish weekend of waiting...

BackforGood · 23/08/2018 17:35

Brilliant news LetsTalk2000

Oh GGirl Flowers. It isn't so much the results - which are a good solid set of results in real life - but the fact he has been misled. If that is what he expected, then he would have been looking for next steps' to match those levels. when they've not worked, then it can be considered a lesson learned, but when they have worked so hard, that is soul destroying for him.
There's a lovely picture going round Facebook - Chief Fire Office of Northumberland has posted a pic of himself saying "Disappointing O-level results..... Very poor A-level results....... Missed out on University......Now Chief Fire Officer........ #No wrong path".
