This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnet users who tested products from BetterYou’s new range of oral supplement sprays, for hair, skin & nails, conception, pregnancy and children’s health.

Here’s what BetterYou has to say: “BetterYou is an innovative natural health company specialising in the supplementation of the growing number of key nutrients lost through our dramatically changing diet and lifestyle. Our products stand alone in the marketplace by their unique levels of quality and effectiveness.

In response to the growing concerns around plastic production and recycling, BetterYou has spent the last 2 years developing a range of recycled and carbon-negative packaging solutions that enables us to drastically reduce our impact on the environment. We are adopting environmental firsts within our industry, and the world...”

  1. Which product/s from the range did you test? What were your initial thoughts?

Conception, my initial thoughts were that I liked the bottle and the packaging, I like the concept of the spray vitamin, but there wasn’t any info about which vitamins I was taking on the bottle?

  1. What did you think of the flavour of the spray/s you tried?

Really nice initially but leaves a metallic taste in your mouth for quite a long time. Suggestions to minimise this on the packaging would be welcome.

  1. How would you compare spray supplementation to other formats you’ve tried in the past?

So much easier to take than tablets, quicker and I’m much more likely to take the spray than a tablet.

  1. Do you plan on continuing to use the spray/s you’ve been testing?

Absolutely, I think I’ll use Better You sprays for all my vitamin requirements from now on.

I have really enjoyed using the Conception Supplement spray. It's great for those who struggle to take those big prenatal vitamins and it tastes amazing too! Just 4 squirts and your daily dose is done! One little bottle will last a whole month.
I would wholeheartedly recommend and would love to know when they go on sale because I will definitely be investing in more!

  1. Which product/s from the range did you test? What were your initial thoughts?

Pregnancy, I really liked the concept of the idea and the ease of use, packaging was good.

  1. What did you think of the flavour of the spray/s you tried?

Nice minty fresh flavour

  1. How would you compare spray supplementation to other formats you’ve tried in the past?

Much easier and quicker than a tablet.

  1. Do you plan on continuing to use the spray/s you’ve been testing?

I think I would, I do still worry the vitamins aren't getting in my system but I also think thats just a mind issue that I will get over.
It would be interesting to see the retail price of the product.

  1. Which product/s from the range did you test? What were your initial thoughts?

Conception Spray - I like the concept as I don’t like taking pills and easy to follow packaging

  1. What did you think of the flavour of the spray/s you tried?

At first, you can taste the pomegranate but that quickly fades and it left an irony/blood like taste in my mouth which I couldn’t get rid of easily ... I made my husband try too as I was convinced my mouth was bleeding lol ... not a great taste

  1. How would you compare spray supplementation to other formats you’ve tried in the past?

Much preferable

  1. Do you plan on continuing to use the spray/s you’ve been testing?

Yes definitely as we are actively trying to conceive so would like to see if this helps

I used the better you hair, skin and nails and children"s health. I love the colours of the sprays packaging and how easy to spray the vitamins directly into my mouth.
My children said they were happy with the taste of the spray and I also was fine with the spray taste and it disappeared quickly.
I love how easy the spray formulations are and long lasting the sprays are.
I will continue to use sprays as so much easier then swallowing tablets

I tried the conception oral spray. The flavour was very nice and the size of the bottle was very handy. I don't think overall it is for me though. I have no problems taking tablets and with the spray, you have to hold it in your mouth for a few moments, which is not the end of the world but when I take a tablet, it's over and done with. I would've liked to understand what the benefit of a spray is meant to be, other than for those who struggle to swallow a pill, is there any other benefits? So unless the eventual marketing line convinces me, I don't think I would buy. However I will finish the current bottle!

1. Which product/s from the range did you test? What were your initial thoughts?

I tested Skin, Hair and Nails. My children tested the Children's Health.

Initial thoughts were that packaging and info leaflet looked very expensive. Everything looked very well designed. I did think it looked like a premium product and would probably charge a premium price. Whilst this was lovely to try for free, I suspect it would retail at a price point that wouldn't appeal to me.

2. What did you think of the flavour of the spray/s you tried?

The Skin, Hair and Nails one was absolutely delicious. I would love you to make it into a vitamin cordial/squash! The children liked the raspberry flavour too, but were a bit confused because the packaging was orange.

3. How would you compare spray supplementation to other formats you’ve tried in the past?

I really liked the fact that the children's one contained 400% recommended Vit D because currently we have to take a separate Vit D supplement as their vitamin tablets don't contain enough. It is certainly a really easy way to take vitamins.

4. Do you plan on continuing to use the spray/s you’ve been testing?

Definitely until the bottles have been used up. After that it will depend on price. I currently get 30 days' supply of multivitamins for adults for about ÂŁ1. Children's ones cost me about ÂŁ2.50 per month for both children. I would be prepared to pay a tiny bit more for this, because of the convenience, but I suspect this will be a higher-end product, so perhaps unlikely to buy it unless it's on offer.

Really liked this product test, thank you!

  1. skin, hair and nails and children's. Love the fact that it's a spray - much easier than taking pills or trying to get kids to take pills. I like the packaging (though seems very big for a small tube which is a bit wasteful). I like that it's all recyclable though.
  2. I liked the skin, hair and nails - very sweet but pleasant, peachy flavour and not too artificial tasting. I tried the kids one to see if it was different. It was less distinctive than the adult one - more sweetie like but my kids didn't like it. It says raspberry but it didn't taste like raspberry to me. I didn't get the kids to try my spray but I think they would have liked that better.
  3. definitely better tasting than oral sprays I've used in the past
  4. I would particularly like to have used it for the kids but as they didn't like it I don't think I would continue buying. We haven't used it long enough to know if there was any impact on hair, skin etc. But the main reason I wouldn't continue using it was that the kids one is that it had folic acid in rather than folate. I choose not to consume folic acid in this form as many people can't metabolise it so that would be enough of a reason for me to not buy it.

I’ve been using the conception spray for a couple of weeks now and I like the flavour and the idea of spray vitamins (especially given the eco-credentials around it). However I probably wouldn’t end up buying it for conception and pregnancy as I would prefer a more full range of vitamins i.e. more of a multi-vitamin like Pregnacare - just a personal choice.
However I think it would be something I’d consider in future for hair, skin and nails and possibly the children’s one as well as I really like the idea and convenience of vitamins in a spray form as I’d never tried it before. I think the packaging and branding is nice as well.

  1. Which product/s from the range did you test? We tested the children's spray and the hair, skin and nails.

  • What were your initial thoughts?

Loved the packaging, really sleek and professional. It was confusing at first to find the actual vitamin content but once I had found them on the bottle itself I was suprised to find the reccomended daily amounts for most of the ingredients were not anywhere near 100% which left me thinking the product was a bit pointless as I would still need to take another multi-vitamin.

  1. What did you think of the flavour of the spray/s you tried? Pretty bad. Weird and artificial. The inital sweetness faded into a horrible after-taste which I liken to if there is too much baking powder in a scone. A bit metalic and false and difficult to get rid of. My daughter is only 2 and seemed to like it but wasn't able to feedback on the aftertaste. I also tasted hers which did exactly the same.

  1. How would you compare spray supplementation to other formats you’ve tried in the past? Love it. Love the concept - very different which is great. Having a 2 year old is tricky for multi-vitamins as she isn't old enough for a chewie sweet type but equally turns her nose up at liquid. Great concept but just not quite right as it stands.

  1. Do you plan on continuing to use the spray/s you’ve been testing? No, the taste and after-taste isn't worth it for the low RDA.

  1. Which product/s from the range did you test? What were your initial thoughts?

I tried the skin, hair and nails spray myself and received the children’s spray for my DS (2). I loved the colours of the packaging for both but would have liked to have details of what vitamins were in each actually on the bottle not just the box.

  1. What did you think of the flavour of the spray/s you tried?

The spray tasted nice at first, if a little too sweet and artificial, but it left an awful taste in my mouth for up to an hour afterwards. Anything I ate or drank in the hour after spraying tasted awful.
When I tried the children’s spray with DS he reacted so badly to it that I didn’t try it more than just that one time. He absolutely hated it - I don’t know if it was the taste or the sensation of the spray.

  1. How would you compare spray supplementation to other formats you’ve tried in the past?

I take tablet vitamins every day and don’t find it to be a hardship. I found I dreaded taking the spray each morning because of the awful taste - you don’t get that with a tablet. I’d be more likely to look for tablets than sprays in the future.

  1. Do you plan on continuing to use the spray/s you’ve been testing?

I’ll probably use the bottle I have as I have noticed a slight improvement in my hair since using it but then would be very unlikely to buy another if it came to market unless the aftertaste disappeared.
I definitely won’t use the children’s spray again, either the sample or through buying more in the future.

I tested the BetterYou Pregnancy Oral Spray.
It has a pleasant taste and is a great way to get your Vitamin D if you don't like swallowing tablets. Just 4 pumps is enough each day onto the inside of the cheeks.

  1. Which product/s from the range did you test? What were your initial thoughts?

We tested the hair skin and nails and the children’s health spray. The sprays are easy to use and the children liked the idea of squirting a spray into their mouths

  1. What did you think of the flavour of the spray/s you tried?

I liked the flavour of the hair skin and nails spray although it was sweeter than I expected it to be, both of my children unfortunately disliked the flavour of the children’s health spray and weren’t keen to use it after the first day (they are both quite fussy about taking any types of medicines or vitamin pills as they dislike the taste). I also tried the children’s spray and I thought it was a very strong flavour.

  1. How would you compare spray supplementation to other formats you’ve tried in the past?

I do find the sprays are easier for me to take than conventional vitamin tablets which are often quite large and difficult to swallow.

  1. Do you plan on continuing to use the spray/s you’ve been testing?

I will continue to use the hair skin and nails spray and I have bought a vitamin d spray to use too! Unfortunately my children are not keen to continue with their spray and prefer to take the chewy vitamin tablets that are more like sweets

Which product/s from the range did you test? What were your initial thoughts?

Conception spray.
I absolutely loved the packaging, it was also very discreet and compact which I liked.

  1. What did you think of the flavour of the spray/s you tried?

I really liked the taste, although slightly metallic afterwards. I like that each different spray has a different flavour too.

  1. How would you compare spray supplementation to other formats you’ve tried in the past?

This was so simple, a few times, I have been in bed and remembered I needed to take my vitamins but not had any water. This is so easy. Although because it was so easy, I was then wondering if it would actually work.

  1. Do you plan on continuing to use the spray/s you’ve been testing?

I will definitely purchase these once they come out and my daughter really wants one for her. This is so easy and fun for children and I love the concept.

I would say depending on the price, one bottle would last a month so it may get quite expensive and therefore not be a monthly purchase but more of a addition to other cheaper vitamins too.

Hello :)

  1. Pregnancy Daily Oral Spray

  1. Flavour is very nice, a bit on the sweet side initially, but also very fresh

  1. These are my first spray vitamins, I usually use capsules/tablets or powder. I found this form very nice and definitely nicer than swallowing large capsules/tablets.

  1. I would definitely prefer to continue taking vitamins in liquid form, but personally won't continue on taking this particular one because of the Vitamin K2 presence. Have a history of blood clotting, so it is not an ideal combination for me. Would be great to have the same stuff but without K2 in the mix!

  1. Which product/s from the range did you test? What were your initial thoughts?

Conception - my initial thoughts were happy, that I didn't need to take the spray with a main meal, like you do with tablet vitamins.

  1. What did you think of the flavour of the spray/s you tried?

I think the flavour is quite nice.

  1. How would you compare spray supplementation to other formats you’ve tried in the past?

Really convenient, easy to take (don't need to be near a drink or take with food) and I remember to take it more easily than I do tablets.

  1. Do you plan on continuing to use the spray/s you’ve been testing?

Yes, I think it's a fab innovative product which benefits me and fits perfectly into my lifestyle.

  1. Which product/s from the range did you test? What were your initial thoughts?

I took the pregnancy spray. At the time I was struggling with morning sickness and my vitamins were triggering it so I was grateful for a way to get vitamins without taking a pill.

  1. What did you think of the flavour of the spray/s you tried?

Liked it, it was a bit fruity.

  1. How would you compare spray supplementation to other formats you’ve tried in the past?

Much nicer to use but I kept doubting the absorption was as effective as a tablet.
  1. Do you plan on continuing to use the spray/s you’ve been testing?

I’ll finish the tester, then probably the other pregnancy vitamins I already have and make a decision.

Conception.

I really liked the flavour and the idea of not having to take another pill every day. I thought it looked very luxurious, as these things go, which is a nice change but I suspect I wouldn't pay the rrp.

Seemed a bit overpackaged, and I worry that the spray pump itself is not recyclable which couldd generate a lot of waste over months of use. Which seems at odds with the company image.

Will there be refills to minimise waste?

  1. What did you think of the flavour of the spray/s you tried?

Very nice! Slightly odd after taste, but felt a lot nicer than the usual vitamin taking experience.

  1. How would you compare spray supplementation to other formats you’ve tried in the past?

Nice change, but over packaging is a big worry. Too short a time to judge efficacy and I did worry about dosage accuracy given variablility of spray pressure etc.

  1. Do you plan on continuing to use the spray/s you’ve been testing?

Until it runs out, sure!

It was raspberry/pomegranate and very nice and fruity.

Children's Health

  1. Which product/s from the range did you test? What were your initial thoughts?

Children's Health- initial thoughts were good, the bottle looked smart and hygienic. But I also knew I'd have a battle with my children as they love the gummie strawberry flavour multi vit they currently have daily.

  1. What did you think of the flavour of the spray/s you tried?

My children initially liked it, said it was like a blackcurrent taste. But after about 10 seconds they were fussing and asking for a drink as it had a bitter aftertaste. I tried it too and it was nice, in my opinion. But, not as yummy as a gummie!

  1. How would you compare spray supplementation to other formats you’ve tried in the past?

For children, not good at all. It felt like I was administering a medicine and they weren't keen at all.

  1. Do you plan on continuing to use the spray/s you’ve been testing?

No, not the Children's a Health one, back to gummies for us.

Hair, Skin & Nails

  1. Which product/s from the range did you test? What were your initial thoughts?

Hair, Skin & Nails. I loved the packaging and the tag line of 'get your glow' and the colour of the bottle. It felt like a little treat I was giving myself.

  1. What did you think of the flavour of the spray/s you tried?

Really liked it but couldn't place what it was supposed to be. I personally would prefer and raspberry or strawberry flavour. But it was fine with no nasty after taste.

  1. How would you compare spray supplementation to other formats you’ve tried in the past?

I like the spray, it's easily portable.

  1. Do you plan on continuing to use the spray/s you’ve been testing?

If the price isn't too high then yes, absolutely.

  1. Which products from the range did you test:

Hair, Skin & Nails and Children's Health.
Attractive packaging and design. Quite awkward to spray into the mouth.

  1. What did you think of the flavours:

Hair, Skin and Nails peach flavour was very strong and too sweet for my taste. Children liked the raspberry flavour of their but I found it too artificial and left an unpleasant oily aftertaste.

  1. How would you compare with other formats:

No easier than taking vitamin tablets/gummies and actually found it more cumbersome/time-consuming.

  1. Do you plan on continuing to use the sprays?

No. Disappointed in the levels of vitamins in both sprays. Would rather stick to the tablet forms I'm currently taking as I know I'm getting a better/higher dose.

I tried the pregnancy spray and was really impressed with having something instead of a tablet to take. I liked the clear list of vitamins on the outside too

  1. What did you think of the flavour of the spray/s you tried?

I wasn’t really keen on the taste, it was minty but left a stale toothpaste effect about a minute afterwards, which was a bit grim. I think a ginger flavour would be preferable, this could help with nausea too!

  1. How would you compare spray supplementation to other formats you’ve tried in the past?

I much preferred the spray form to having a tablet, particularly dispersable tablets that you have to dissolve. It was handy to pop in my bag but I was worried that when the spray actually came out that I was getting the correct dosage, so a little counter on the side that clicked over when you took the correct dose could be a good idea

  1. Do you plan on continuing to use the spray/s you’ve been testing?

Yes I will continue to use it and hope to find some more if it runs out before the end of my pregnancy!

Conception spray

What were your initial thoughts?
Little bottle with minimal packaging, but no information leaflet.

2. What did you think of the flavour of the spray/s you tried?
Had a nice flavour, quite sweet but did leave a metallic taste in my mouth.

3. How would you compare spray supplementation to other formats you’ve tried in the past?
So much easier to take than tablets and I usually use the spray after waking up without worrying about having to take with water or food.

4. Do you plan on continuing to use the spray/s you’ve been testing?
Yes, I'd definitely use this again, as for me, it's so much easier and also has had the advantage of not affecting my cycle, like some brands of conception tablets have done.
