"on mumsnet this week" in the Mail. Is this a new thing

Came across this this morning when I should have been working

Is this a new weekly rip-off by the Mail? Or has it been going on for months and I'm behind the times as usual grin

I'm not quite as virulently anti the Mail as mnetters, find it silly rather than the end of civilisation as we know it. But still ...

GetOrfMoiLand Thu 13-Aug-09 10:35:35

Theer was a thread or two about this last week.

I looked at this this morning (also when I was supposed to be working, but Mumsnet was offline so whaddayogonnado!)

All good advertising!

StealthPolarBear Thu 13-Aug-09 10:38:02

shock so there's a regular column about a MN thread??

jujumaman Thu 13-Aug-09 10:38:12

Ah. Behind the times then grin. I'm sure the tone of the old threads was delighted to be included in the Mail

HecatesTwopenceworth Thu 13-Aug-09 10:40:48

Dunno, I think so. I don't see what the problem is, tbh. Anything that raises the profile of a business - which mn is - is good. People read it and maybe come and join - great. Companies read it and think great place to advertise, that brings in money, that further improves the site - great.

lisad123 Thu 13-Aug-09 10:41:18

cheap and easy way to get a story, think they should pay all MNetters they quote grin

StealthPolarBear Thu 13-Aug-09 10:41:37

yeah you're right Hecates, it's just my mum reads it blush. Might have to be more careful about what I say - or is it only on the DM website??

RedLentil Thu 13-Aug-09 10:43:28

Does your mum think of you as 'stealthpolarbear'?

If not, your secrets may still be safe. grin

Rindercella Thu 13-Aug-09 10:44:09

Looks like MNHQ knew nothing about it last week hmm

Feel like I am going to have to self-censor now. Imagine the blush of being quoted in that crapola rag.

cornsillk Thu 13-Aug-09 10:46:45

I find that quite worrying - I thought the last one was a one off.

StealthPolarBear Thu 13-Aug-09 10:49:13

No, she doesn't RedLentil but I am sometimes not as discreet as I should be blush. And usually in chat too - so probably the kinds of threads that willl be quoted!
Does anyone know if it's actually in the newspaper, or just on the website? Or is that a silly question?

StealthPolarBear Thu 13-Aug-09 10:51:20

Ah that other thread has given me the answer - I need a swear word or a DM hating phrase in my name.

BitOfFun Thu 13-Aug-09 10:51:21

Bloody Hell! It wasn't even Thunderduck who was pregnant? How can they get such basic things wrong? She'll be steaming...shock

cornsillk Thu 13-Aug-09 11:01:20

I reckon that a journalist who has been slagged off on here is after revenge....

OhYouBadBadKitten Thu 13-Aug-09 11:06:53

bleugh at being in DM. It actually feels very wrong to me. We are not entrants in Big Brother or any other crap reality show, we are just members of the public, not seeking publicity but conversation. if we were all chatting in a pub (very public area) we would be beyond furious if our conversations were recorded in a paper as daily column.

Could you imagine 'this week in the Crown and Anchor...'
To me its like that really (but one heck of a big pub!)

bleh Thu 13-Aug-09 11:08:43

I was wondering about that. I had no idea she was pregnant, which is alright, because she isn't. Is she?

PortAndLemon Thu 13-Aug-09 11:12:33

OYBBK, there is a columnist in one of the nationals who reports overheard conversations. I remember because NotQuiteCockney's DS featured in the column one week.

LIZS Thu 13-Aug-09 11:12:55

hmm I'd thought last week's was a one -off , hadn't seen it before in DM apart from as a passing reference in her previous articles. On the other thread I raised a question re. copyright of posts since MN claims it. btw the journalist was a well known and liked ex Mnetter(presumably still lurking) so am slightly surprised she has resorted to this. She was never slagged off iirc but did take upset at some editing by MNHQ.

If/when my papers turn up today (regular paperboy must be on holiday) I'll check if it is in print too.

tattycoram Thu 13-Aug-09 11:14:29

Can it really be interesting for people who aren't on mumsnet? Looks incomprehensible when presented like that.

poopscoop Thu 13-Aug-09 11:16:26

Is thunderduck preg? I just searched and couldnt find anything. Where do they get their stuff from?

BitOfFun Thu 13-Aug-09 11:17:43

No she isn't!! She is off on a drinking binge-come-grouse-shoot IIRC...

cthea Thu 13-Aug-09 11:17:43

I thought some views on MN were very DM-like (the middle class obsession) but had no idea it goes to this kind of collaboration. Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells.

OhYouBadBadKitten Thu 13-Aug-09 11:23:43

Portandlemon - really? sad There really is no respect for privacy any more. Do people really have to huddle in private houses to talk without worrying it will be in the papers?

[naive]

PortAndLemon Thu 13-Aug-09 11:24:31

I am also shocked that it's this particular ex-mumsnetter doing it (on the bright side, it means MNHQ already have her contact details...)
