Could we have a handholding thread? I have two DCs going through UCSS at the moment, would love to obsess here so I can appear calm on the outside.
LNAT results go to the UNIs tomorrow I think, so offers could be rolling in soon for DD who has applied for law.

Are they twins Carriemac?

DS has had an offer from Bristol, but for a science subject which have always previously seemed to have come in earlier than arts and humanities. He's very pleased though, Bristol is high on his list and the offer is pleasingly low, with no strings attached (that I can see anyhow).

Roseformeplease · 19/10/2016 08:38

Me too please. DS already has an unconditional from Glasgow (his 4th choice) but is obsessively checking for others. Anecdotally, Glasgow does not read PS or references, but makes offers based on existing grades. DS (Scottish system) already has the grades for his 4 Scottish universities. The other is Oxford so......

History.

Carriemac · 19/10/2016 10:29

yes, twins, DD law, applied for oxford Durham Bristol Exeter KCl
DS still considering , management at Bath , Leeds , Birmingham durham probably

My pfb's firm has gone in too... after much drama around filling in all the correct bits and it brin my fault he couldn't find certificates Hmm

Now the waiting starts ...

He's applied to Bath, Birmingham,Sheffield, Edinburgh and Liverpool....

justarandomer · 20/10/2016 07:21

Dd has offers from Bristol and Birmingham Smile

Carriemac · 20/10/2016 07:26

What subjects have they applied for?

doglover · 20/10/2016 16:47

My dd has applied to Oxford, Exeter, Royal Holloway, Bristol and Swansea for Eng Lit.

She's received an offer of ABB from R.H. which would become unconditional if she chooses it as her firm choice. She's delighted!

ErrolTheDragon · 20/10/2016 17:04

My DD has her application in - Electrical&Electronic eng (Southampton, Manchester, Sheffield, Nottingham) plus a shot at Cambridge which is general eng. They all do interviews though, so no offers in the immediate offing. Two interview dates set. I think that apart from cambridge it's more of an 'applicant day' and the interview is quite informal so shouldn't be too much of an ordeal - but obviously makes the process a little slower.

roundandroundthehouses · 20/10/2016 17:21

Checking in :) Dd1, applying for Physics.

Bristol - she got a good, achievable offer within a week, which she's really pleased about.
Manchester - usually interview for Physics, so waiting to hear if she's been selected.
Oxford (quite a long shot) - nothing will happen until after the PAT in early Nov.
St Andrews and Queen's - don't usually interview, so it's just a matter of waiting.

Carriemac · 20/10/2016 19:20

So a few oxbridge interviews potentially... should be a useful thread.
Not so much for interview prep but teen mood handling .
DD is convinced she is not going to get any offers despite an A*AA prediction so am trying to rain calm and quietly encouraging as her friends offers roll in.

Which of her unis use the LNAT these days Carriemac? Two of my DDs read law but they only needed it for two/ three of their unis respectively (Oxford/ Durham/ UCL) - do Bristol/ Exeter/ KCL use it now? And do they still only release the results to the students in January?

ErrolTheDragon · 20/10/2016 21:51

DD has just printed off the specimen paper for the camb. engineering admissions assessment. Rather her than me (I used to be good at exams, now the very idea of timed tests freezes my brain! )

Carriemac · 20/10/2016 23:56

All of the ones she applied too except Exeter use the LNAT, no results till February for the candidates but the universities get them tomorrow

Waiting here too, although dd has got an interview at Manchester end of November. She also applied to Oxford as a long shot, Edinburgh, imperial and Exeter to do Biology .

roundandroundthehouses · 21/10/2016 17:07

Dd1 is getting jittery as she's heard that Manchester has already been interviewing/inviting Physics applicants and she has heard nothing. It's going to be a long few months... Manchester is by far her preferred uni tbf, so maybe she won't worry so much about the other ones.

user1474361571 · 21/10/2016 18:26

Manchester physics makes offers to 90% of applicants:

university.which.co.uk/university-of-manchester-m20/physics-4-years-9000-f305-285059

The "interviews" are simply to persuade students to firm them.

Manchester has expanded their numbers in physics in recent years and are trying to slaughter their opposition using the Brian Cox factor. She will get an offer if her grades/predicted grades are in the right ballpark.

roundandroundthehouses · 21/10/2016 19:37

Sounds reassuring if that's the case, user Smile. She spent a week in summer on a work experience placement and loved it.

wormshuffled · 22/10/2016 06:57

DD has already had offers Grin Bristol, Sussex and Birmingham which is unconditional if she firms it. She's now waiting for Durham and UCL to reply, with UCL being her dream. I am so proud of her.

enolagayits0815 · 22/10/2016 18:33

Ds sent his form on Friday, he's applied to Bristol, Birmingham and reading. Those with offers from Bristol and Birmingham, how long did you wait?

roundandroundthehouses · 22/10/2016 18:53

Just under a week for Bristol, enola :)

enolagayits0815 · 22/10/2016 19:30

Thanks round and well done on the offer.

goodbyestranger · 22/10/2016 19:45

enola the offer updated on track on the third working day for Bristol but DS hasn't applied for Birmingham. Different courses vary hugely between unis of course. DS has applied for a science which would be one of the quicker courses to respond, generally.

Thanks stranger and great that an offer came through so quick now if only I could get his track password!

SparklesandBangs · 22/10/2016 20:05

DD2 has yet to finish her PS or to decide on her 5 choices, can't help but fell we are a little behind here.

enolagayits0815 · 22/10/2016 21:11

Ds only did that late last week and you have plenty of time.
