Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure
read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

NOTES ON TRANSMISSION

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow. Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to break transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others.

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

Are others getting adverts for face masks on this thread on their mobile?

FurForksSake · 07/03/2020 22:28

Tonnes of ads for face masks.

Thanks for the new thread.

Youngatheart00 · 07/03/2020 22:30

Thanks for the new thread and the useful links and summaries.

Re anti viral foods - any suggestions as to what these are?

justchecking1 · 07/03/2020 22:31

I keep getting travel ads on the Worldometer site. Erm, no thanks!

WhyNotMe40 · 07/03/2020 22:32

I'm really not coping well tonight. I don't want to go to work on Monday (crowded city comprehensive), I don't want my DC to go to school and nursery. I have old not very well relatives that I don't want to stop seeing. Feeling panicky and scared

mac12 · 07/03/2020 22:33

Re transmission, the virus is also found in urine & fecal matter so essential to practice good hygiene in toilets, especially public toilets - another reason why schools will be vectors of transmission. Still no idea why this is not being hammered home in public health advisories Hmm

@WaterSheep, do you have a link to the Italy age ratio

BIWI · 07/03/2020 22:34

Thanks for the new thread.

I'm 60 (just) so keeping an eye on the advice. I'm not expecting to be told I have to self-isolate, as I'm generally pretty fit and healthy (as is DH), but I've taken steps to make sure we're well stocked with essentials, including pain killers. I reckon my food cupboards/fridge and freezer are about a week ahead of what we would normally have. We also have plenty of loo roll!

Number 1 is tea so that should be easy. Will get some ginger tomorrow I like it in stir fries anyway

QueenofmyPrinces · 07/03/2020 22:36

It easy to feel panicked and scared at times like this.

My husband is downstairs with the most awful cough and sore throat and headache etc and of course my paranoia is telling me it’s Coronvirus and that me and my children are going to catch it and what if one of us dies etc etc

I’m trying to be rational but I think it can be human nature to simply imagine the worst and be very worried about it becoming a reality.

Yestermost · 07/03/2020 22:39

@QueenofmyPrincess has he been tested?

usernameishistory · 07/03/2020 22:39

Youngatheart00

Wrt dietary antivirals, for me thats garlic, loads of it, fresh is better (if manageable!). I have also heard oregano oil under the tongue spoken of,but not something I've done (or hears of until these threads!)

I appreciate the acknowledgements, especially when it shows that posters do actually read the OP and first posts Wink and proving helpful.

Are locations still only being released once a week? Or has this changed now?

WhyNotMe40 · 07/03/2020 22:42

Queen - hope he gets better soon. If it's any consolation we are all coughing here! I had it first - very snotty fluish cold that had me in bed 2 days, then the kids got the snots, now we all cough. Apart from DH - he never gets it! Maybe you won't Flowers

NotJustACigar · 07/03/2020 22:42

There's another thread going with people bragging they're not scared, saying it's just like the flu, accusing the media of hoping this up to sell newspapers. Why are people STILL not getting the message, why is it so difficult for them to understand that this is serious? Do they think the people of China are just being big babies about this for some reason??? Do they not think 20% of infected people needing hospitalisation is no big deal and something the NHS can take in its stride? It worries me because these people blithely going on their merry way taking no precautions are going to be the people most likely to infect others.

springflorals · 07/03/2020 22:43

My anxiety is really thriving at the moment. I am starting to get so obsessive about washing my hands that I have now developed eczema which is sore and my hand cream isn't helping at all. Does anyone have any recommendations?

WhyNotMe40 · 07/03/2020 22:43

Yes thanks username CakeFlowers

usernameishistory · 07/03/2020 22:43

WhyNotMe40. Really sorry you feel like this, I think many do.

Did you see theres a link in the OP with advice on managing anxiety? I hope its helpful.

You have to do whatever you need to stay well in all senses. Maybe Monday you need to all take a day off and go somewhere away from everyone else!
We'll all see you there Grin

Tea, number 1 on antiviral!!??
We'll all see you there

WhyNotMe40 · 07/03/2020 22:44

I have OCD and regularly over wash my hands. I use Averno emollient after every handwashing when at home.

BIWI · 07/03/2020 22:45

With genuine respect @springflorals - stop washing your hands so much! Go to your local pharmacy and get some proper cream to deal with the eczema.

Theukisgreatt · 07/03/2020 22:45

The impact of the virus on my industry (big companies) is potentially huge. I'm worried about that.
