We're very close to maxing-out our previous thread, so time to start afresh 🙂

To borrow the intro from @Blondcat (our old threads founder):

A wonderful bunch of ladies supporting each other through the ttc journey when trying for a first baby after 35.

Good luck all!! 🍀🤞🏻🍀🤞🏻

Just to introduce myself again for any new people who maybe joining us:

Age: 38
TTC with the ex for 3.5 years, 5 years ago. Fully investigated and given diagnosis of 'unexplained primary infertility'.
TTC with DP since April 2018, onto cycle 7 now.

Just had fertility bloods done and nothing of concern there. DP's SA is alright too (albeit on the lower end of normal, now we've got the paper report 😕). Awaiting first appointment from the ACU 👍

Hola! Checking in for my third round of this thread (don't think I was on the first one)...

Thanks for setting it up, Bambi!

Thanks @BambiOnIce80! Also good news on your bloodwork.

I’m 35 and as of today, 8 weeks with my first. Thanks for letting me stay on this thread! I’ve not had strong nausea or anything so I’ve been doubting whether or not there’s actually something in there. We have a private scan tomorrow so I guess we will find out!

@bambionice80 thanks for the new thread I am looking forward to seeing some more bfp's on here soon.

@oxted2018 I am good thanks. I am 6 weeks tomorrow. Just want to get to Friday then I am past where I had the mc in April. Though this time I feel like I have more symptoms at this stage, sore and almost two cups sizes bigger boobs and had some nausea in last couple of days. I am also feeling more positive generally about this pregnancy though do have a couple of wobbles now and then where I am convinced it is going wrong (only to be expected I think). Will keep you guys updated.

Good luck trying ladies! So keen to see some more BFPs.

Good luck @Kescilly for scan & @Blondcat for milestone 🤞. All tentatively ok here so far too.

Just catching up on the tail end of the old thread...

@Oxted2018 that is a very funny week 😕 I would be totally flummoxed by AF 2 weeks after the last one and BFN's 🤔 Is it worth a visit to the GP seems this is totally out of character for your cycle? Surely long haul travel shouldn't gigger a cycle to that degree?

I don't think you're being stupid at all @LeonieKate! I hate wasting money on FRER's when I'm sure AF is on the way, but I do have a cheapy stock off of Amazon to avoid me missing out on lovely gin unnecessarily! 🍸If you have a prime account, these ones are less than a fiver for 5 of them:

5 x One Step Ultra Early - 10mIU... www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0026RKBSQ?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

@Beeseeinya, sorry your back is out of action too! 😣

Hi all 👋🏻

Does anyone ever not get a 'proper' positive on cheap opks?

I've been using them since cd8 (now 14) and they got stronger and have now faded off again. Never got anywhere as dark as the control line. Always seems to be the same.

Thoughts welcome!

Report
BambiOnIce80 · 23/10/2018 17:51

@NotMaryWhitehouse, absolutely the same. Mine would get near as dammit the same as the control line, but not quite and then the next day would be gone again. Apparently the surge can literally only last for a couple of hours, so it's really easy to miss it 🙄 I decided I could absolutely not be arsed with testing every couple of hours to try and catch it and just took it that the 'near as dammit' BFP one was my sign that the LH surge had just happened or was about to happen. My blood tests have just confirmed I do indeed ovulate, so think that system is as good as any and don't be too worried that your not getting a stonking BFP OPK 👍🏻

Ah a new thread!

Thanks girls. Today is the first day I haven’t pee’d on a stick since Saturday and it feels like something is missing!

@Chelonia right?! Gum chewing Doctors receptionist 😂 Actually, she was lovely but it’s definitely a bit of an anticlimax although things are definitely going on behind the scenes because the maternity unit administrator got in touch with me today because I forgot to put my email address on the form and they need it to arrange my booking in appointment 🙈

Thanks @PixieN and @LeonieKate 😁

@Beeseeinya thank you. I feel fine really, aside from the accidental hourlong catnap I took yesterday afternoon and occasionally achy boobs. I’ve had a bit of cramping today and I won’t feel like I’ve crossed the first hurdle until I get through Saturday, which is when af was supposed to arrive. One of the perils of testing early I suppose.

I’m wishing you a speedy recovery - back pain sucks, I started to get a lot of lower back pain when we started ttc and know that is where I hold stress generally, so maybe a break is a good idea.

@BambiOnIce80 oh good, not just me! I know I am ovulating, so I guess I will just assume 👍🏻

Report
Chelonia · 23/10/2018 19:38

@NotMaryWhitehouse I never got anything close to a dark line on a cheapy OPK, I only ever got faint lines just before the time I think I ovulate, but then I drink a lot of water and struggle to hold for more than about 2hrs (and suffer from UTIs so not inclined to hold for longer anyway)
Off for CD21 bloods later so I guess we'll find out more!

@chelonia that is pants.... it’s to nice to miss!

@CNizzle it’s the good stuff Isn’t it 💗. Good luck this time round. Maybe you could get a double whammy in tonight, just for luck! 😁.

@79andnotout you need to try it.... the mini
Milk idea has Meade me excited for next summer 😂😍.
Good luck for the upcoming fertile week 🤞. As it’s almost half term I am thinking it maybe a good time to get serious about starting an exercise class.... plenty of time, no excuses!!

@RussKispy good luck for next cycle. I hope you get you BFP. 🤞💕

Beeseeinya I am trying to have a little break from the stress of ttc.... but hear I am I’m using a cheapy OPK to test 🙈.

I go through so many emotions in a month it’s rather draining. Today is I want it to happen now, yesterday was wait till after
Xmas so I can be merry and relax for celebrations. 🙈

@LeaoniKate I hate peeing money away too! But it’s more stressful pondering with the thought of am I am I not? Hours and days on end! 😂🙈

@Blondecat and @Kecilly good luck to both of you 🤞.

Well I’m thinking this was a positive catch up. All are sounding positive and it’s good to hear that things are moving forward for some.

I wish I could just have the peace of mind that I was atleast ovulating 🙈. But it’s all a waiting game I guess.

OK well I've woken up quite despondent, I have been pretty rubbish at temping this cycle but definitely caught my ovulation. Temp did a nice fast rise (36.58 to 36.93) then I skipped a day and this morning got up half asleep at about 530, staggered out for a wee (nude), got back to bed, realised I should temp (expecting it to be falsely related due to the little jaunt) and IT WAS LOWER!! 😭😭😭 36.66
Sorry for lack of graph, I don't use an app to track temp I write it down old-school in a diary. Please accept photo of judgemental Cat Overlord as tax x

Thanks @LeonieKate I'm never sure if you're meant to lie down for a sore back or keep moving! Good to know you heard it from someone in the know.
My wholehearted sympathies @Beeseeinya waves from position on floor hope you're feeling better soon
@MrsRRC it's interesting you mention the stress manifesting as lower back pain, (it's always my lower back). I had a friend suggest this about 10 years ago when I was in a very "trapped" situation - bad home environment, job I didn't want, longing to be somewhere doing something very dear to me that I had convinced myself I was too old for... I used to hobble around almost bent in half.
I drank too much wine one night, decided life was too short and chucked everything in. 4weeks later I finally got to the place I wanted to be, climbed onto my inflatable mattress that night (not ideal for a bad back!?) and woke up "cured". Amazing
Obviously DP would have strong objections to me doing this now!!

@Chelonia ignore the temp, there are always rogue ones in there. Measure again tomorrow and see what it says. I throw out random temps all the time. I don't know how you manage to just make a note of them though. I'm so bleary eyed first thing I can barely bash the correct figures into fertility friend, let alone write.

Ah no I never write them down at the time, I go back later, often that evening and turn on thermometer and for about 3 seconds it displays the last recorded temp, super handy!! Gotta be quick tho as it then disappears!

Hi. I’m 36 in December and hubby has said we can look into trying in the new year. I’m really worried that I’m too old, too fat and that due to issues in his past, it’s going to take a very long time ttc. Any advise or anything? I’m leaning towards going down adoption route so as I’m the main bread winner, he could take time off any we’d be ok financially.

CNizzle · 23/10/2018 21:36

@Blondcat glad to hear you're doing ok. Good luck on your milestone x

@chelonia sometimes i get a rogue low temp if ive slept with my mouth open (lovely!) Or if ive not jammed that thermometer right under my tongue enough!

Im using cbfm for the first time this month, I've read online that it automatically gives you two peak days followed by a high fertility.
Got "peak" Sun & Mon (cd14&15), "high" today. dtd on Sunday. Expected ov on monday or tues going by "peaks", but bbt was still low today. Expected a rise. Weird. (The rogue high one was after a night if drinks & a lie-in!) Dont know if i have actually ovulated now. Hmmm

@NotMaryWhitehouse I could never get cheap OPKs to work despite trying testing at different times of the day. I was in despair thinking I didn’t ovulate but then switched to the CB advanced (dual hormone smily face one) and it worked perfectly just using first morning urine.
