I'm trying to decide whether to treat myself to a crochet sea creatures book for the octopus pattern or wait and get it out the library - no idea when they might be open again though

InTheNightWeWillWish · 07/03/2021 19:04

lucysmam the bunnies are baskets, so they need bigger eyes and some black, bigger buttons should work well. But I’ve got grand plans for some other little critters over the next few weeks so I’ll check them out.

specialcase123 · 07/03/2021 19:12

I don’t know how to do this properly but @CrochetBug that looks lovely!!!

I’m new to knitting - a lockdown hobby I think I’ll continue past lockdown. Have just ordered a load of wool from hobby craft - the WI range... hope it’s okay because I’ve ordered a lot!

CrochetBug · 07/03/2021 19:22

@InTheNightWeWillWish do you mean was the pattern a yarninspirations one? I didn't follow a pattern, just realised it was a granny square folded in half and made it up after that.

I've got a couple of sweater scarf patterns saved here and here

@specialcase123 I bought lots of the WI yarn when I was new to crochet. It's gorgeously soft and lovely to work with. One of my 'heartbreak' projects is a baby blanket made with it. It's half made and at the back of the cupboard now.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 07/03/2021 19:23

Thanks everyone! Smile

I developed an inability to count to 4 on a previous project lucysmam 😂 I reckon handing it over to someone else to count might be worth a try, just in case! Wink

Love it CrochetBug and I'm slightly disappointed to hear those are PJ's, I was thinking "ooh, nice trousers!" Grin

That is so cool petridishmystery, I'm going to have to add loom knitting to my list of to-dos, it's facinating!

InTheNightWeWillWish Buttons are soo expensive! There was a place called Textile Garden that had thousands of different types of you want a nosy there.

Scoobygang7 · 07/03/2021 19:35

@crochet that's pretty love the colours.

@tiz do your library do online books ours do and have a few knitting and crochet books as ebooks

spamm · 07/03/2021 19:41

Wow @FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack - that is amazing, so beautiful. I am in complete awe of your skills.

@InTheNightWeWillWish - you CAL is looking so good, that is a wonderful blanket.

@CrochetBug - that jacket is so very cute. I love the colors and I agree, they look great on you.

I am sitting quietly knitting today. I got my vaccine yesterday and I am just very achy all over. I did not sleep great, so just taking it quietly. I also got a note that my KAL wool is on its way - so exciting!

lucysmam · 07/03/2021 19:43

I'm back to the row that was causing issues, Flavia, so if it doesn't go right first time I'll get dd1 to count.

Bunny baskets sound fun InTheNight; I'm considering a garland of crochet bunnies or chicks for Easter maybe. I think they'd be sweet on the fireplace.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 07/03/2021 19:45

@CrochetBug I’ve seen one from yarnspirations but good to know it’s essentially just a blanket folded in half.

@specialcase123 I’ve just ordered 3 big balls of the hobbycraft WI Aran. As crochetbug said it’s lovely and soft. Colours are really nice too and weren’t too far from the photo. I’ve not used them yet to know how well they make up but impressed so far.

@FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack thank you, I’ll check it out. I’ve found you can get mixed bags quite cheaply but when you want something specific, they’re really expensive. If shops were open this would be one of those take my project(s) to the shops do try out buttons before I bought them. Doesn’t Boris realise how essential buttons are to me finishing my projects?!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 07/03/2021 19:49

lucysmam I’m also making a bunny Garland! It’s going to be pompom madness here Grin I’m going to make the bunny baskets and some bunny mug cozies for the care home to include in their Easter raffle and the Garland for the care home to put up and decorate with. Well, that’s my plan but I’ve got to also finish my mum’s present (her birthday is Easter weekend) and I want to do some other bits. I may have overstretched myself as Easter is only a few weeks away 😬

Buntyforgirls · 07/03/2021 20:24

I absolutely love that @CrochetBug !

lucysmam · 07/03/2021 20:34

I'm not sure how well you can see with the flash rather than natural light but going back & doing the first two stitches of the cable in the front post is so much easier & it looks neater (to me) so I wondered what anyone else thinks before I get back to this row again?

Bottom is done from behind the first two fptc, bottom is done the same way as the first two (that seems confusing, hopefully someone will get what I mean!)

lucysmam · 07/03/2021 20:47

Actually, I might be frogging again. I think I've maybe mis-read the pattern...

I've done row 1, 2, 3, 4

Row 5 is a repeat of 3

Then it says 6 - 60 repeat rows 2 - 4.

Would you take that as 2, 3, 4, 2, 3 , 4

Or, like I did; 2, 3, 4, 3, 2 (I based this off row 5 repeating 3, and 6 repeating 2).

My poor brain today 🤣🙈

specialcase123 · 07/03/2021 20:48

Great to hear it’s worthwhile!!! Ive done a couple of small jumpers in Aran but now am trying one for my husband in DK so will see how we get on! I have only made little people jumpers so hope I don’t get bored with a big persons jumper!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 07/03/2021 20:57

flavia damn you! I mean, than you for the suggestion, I am now working out a project that means I can use wooden sheep buttons. Apparently DH thinks I’m unreasonable for suggesting I make him a jumper with sheep buttons Hmm

Bunny basket (and ears) so far. It’s not that sturdy so far, partly because I didn’t put cardboard between the bottom layers as I wanted it to be washable but the sides do seem to be getting sturdier as I go further up but I might add a cardboard disk to the bottom.

@FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack thanks for the tincan knits recommendation! I'm thinking about having my first try at lace looking at their gothic cowl...maybe Grin

lazylinguist · 07/03/2021 21:48

I like those scarf sleeve thingies too. I keep seeing knitted ones on Instagram (to buy rather than make). here

OP posts:
lucysmam · 07/03/2021 21:55

I bookmarked
this pattern for one of those scarf sweater thingys for future reference, a few days ago.

petridishmystery · 07/03/2021 22:16

There’s a loom knit version of the scarf sleeves too! I haven’t tried it yet

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 07/03/2021 22:28

You’re most welcome InTheNight glad to be spreading sheep shaped joy Halo

Ooh, do it MutteringDarkly, it’s gorgeous!

This one lucysmam - 2, 3, 4, 2, 3 , 4 but I’ll add the disclaimer that crochet is not my strong point.

Thanks spamm SmileI hope you feel better tomorrow! Gin

lazylinguist · 07/03/2021 22:44

My CAL blanket is nearly as tall as me now Grin. I'm 5'6" and it reaches from my feet to just above my mouth!

@inthenightwewillwish

I played with my button collection tonight. If any of these suit I can post Tuesday. They're possibly not exciting enough 😔 I have hundreds but it's getting matching ones! I think I've matched them to the right picture you posted.

Anyway it's no problem if they're no use, it gave me an excuse to play with my buttons collection.

My granny always had one when I was a kid in an old style roses chocolate tin, and a dear friend found me a roses tin to keep them in. One of the most touching things 🥰 ( they're all plastic tubs these days) .

Ah shite, I'll have to open the browser to attach the pic.

Loving everyone's masterpieces. Really amazing stuff.

@crochetbug your hair is marvellous

Myshitisreal · 08/03/2021 05:13

I found a matching last yellow one.
