There should have been a ch 2 at the end of the foundation row & ch1 at the end of row one. So I'll frog it to the end of the foundation row this afternoon, & start again.

She complimented my name too, which made me smile this morning :)

lazylinguist · 06/03/2021 09:12

Everyone sounds very busy with their WIPs and yarn ordering! I didn't get any crocheting done yesterday in the end. Really looking forward to the KAL and getting my wool for it.

I'm cautiously a bit excited today as I've got a full-time job to apply for. I haven't worked full-time since having dd 15 years ago Shock. Since we moved here nearly 7 years ago, only one suitable teaching job in my subject has come up and I didn't get it Sad. I'm a bit scared at the thought of going back full time!

@lazylinguist good luck with the application. I’m not a teacher so unfortunately I can’t offer any practical advice there but until the pandemic hit, I was looking (with no success) to change jobs so I understand how draining applying for jobs can be.

So I buggered up. I wanted to make my mum a throw for her birthday, she’s always knitting things for everyone else but not herself. I bought some wool in colours I thought she’d love and picked a pattern. Frogged the first pattern for not getting along with it. Picked a second pattern and started v2 and it started well but I’m just not loving it... In the meantime, I bought some lovely wool but didn’t have a pattern for it, or even a recipient in mind. Made the mistake of sharing my find with my mum, even sent her the link. I started doing corner to corner pattern with the wool and I love it. More importantly I think my mum would love it. I only bought 4x 100g balls so it might be a smaller throw but decided I’d give her that. Spoke to her this morning, she’s ordered the full set of nice wool and is knitting herself a massive blanket with it 🤦‍♀️Her birthday is in a few weeks so I need to decide if I’m going to still give her the smaller throw of a version she’s making herself, carry on with v2 of the blanket or find a pattern I do love for v3 of the blanket!

The orange-purple-green shells is v2 of the blanket. The pink-teal-green-orange-yellow is the nice wool that she’s making her own throw in.

Could you turn your smaller throw into a matching cushion for the blanket your mum is knitting?

InTheNightWeWillWish · 06/03/2021 10:03

tizwozliz thank you, that’s a great idea!

NiceCardigan · 06/03/2021 10:30

Good luck with the application @lazylinguist

tizwozliz · 06/03/2021 10:33

I ended up adding another colour, although not the one I'd originally intended. Yarn had been bought on the basis of using 3 colours plus white which is why I was reluctant to just use 2 colours plus white. Pleased with that decision now.

That is really beautiful, @tizwozliz. I absolutely love the colours!

I'm going to make an octopus in the same colours to go with it, which I'm itching to start but forcing myself to get this done first. The thing I like about this pattern is you don't have to decide on size before you start, just keep going until it's the right size. Not that I have any idea what the right size is for a pram blanket

lazylinguist · 06/03/2021 12:16

I think an octopus will look fab in those colours!
My KAL wool just arrived. Oof - it's a big ball!

@tizwozliz that's coming along so quick! It looks great! the colours look completely different in natural lighting!

I can't wait to see everyone's KAL's in progress! And to see all the different colours etc!

lucysmam · 06/03/2021 13:31

tizwoz I actually do like the extra colour in there. Your friend will love it :)

We're heading home; slower than getting into town 🙄 Neither of the girls wants to do anything this afternoon though so I'll get a good few hours of crochet in 😊

lucysmam · 06/03/2021 13:34

@FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack you mentioned on the other thread a set of hooks you bought from Amazon; any chance of a link for them please? I think I prefer the feel of them to the aluminium ones, and my thumb's less sore today.

tizwozliz · 06/03/2021 13:40

It's funny because last night under the lamp in the lounge the green and grey looked virtually the same colour. It's why I really miss being able to pick the yarn in person. The greenish yarn is actually a colour called glacier and I the online images looked more blue than it actually is

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 06/03/2021 14:00

lucysmam, Yep, I just checked my order history and this is them, but I only paid £7.99 for them in 2014! There're a lot of similar ones for less money though. I was using one last night and it was a bit wobbly in the handle but they've lasted this long so it's not too bad.

That is lovely tiz, I like it with the new colour.

Lazy good luck with the application!

InTheNight oh no, that's definitely something my DM would do too!

Now I have a finished object I wore it this morning taking the DC to the park, it was fairly windproof and nice and toasty. I like the dipped hem at the back, I hate having a cold backside and hips Grin

lucysmam · 06/03/2021 14:29

Thank you, I'll have a look and get some ordered this afternoon.

I'm just sitting down to frog the cardi back to the foundation row, then start again. All with the sound of bloomin' crickets chirruping away in the background 🙄

sophs29 · 06/03/2021 14:35

With my hooks I've just wrapped round some polymer clay (Fimo) until it felt 'right' and then baked them in the oven for a bit and now they're like ergonomic hooks but at a fraction of the price as I already had clay lying round the house one of my many hobbies Grin

tizwozliz · 06/03/2021 14:54

The Fusion hooks are the one's I first started out with, although one of mine had a little nick in the metal which made it useless, if I'd have noticed straight away I would have got them replaced but I'd had them quite a while by the time I wanted to use that size.

I'm slowly replacing them with Clover Amour now, as i know which sizes i want/need and the clover ones are nicer but I think the Fusion are a good beginner set. Some of the handles on mine have gone all sticky now, but think that may be because they were kept on the window sill.

lucysmam · 06/03/2021 15:28

sophs I think dd2 has some air drying clay I could probably pinch some of to try out. I'll have a look next time I head upstairs and try it on one of the sizes I have more than one of.

eitak22 · 06/03/2021 15:38

@lazylinguist good luck with application. I've got one for teaching I'm currently writing.

Not had a huge amount of time for crochet but currently making a v-stitch cowl in the same wool as my pocket shawl and since DH is gaming will get some time this afternoon.

lucysmam · 06/03/2021 17:15

Uff; the chain 2 isn't right at the end of the foundation row. I've just frogged right back again. Third time lucky 🤞

Oooo. Good luck @lazylinguist. How exciting! What do you teach?

@tizwozliz those colours look so different in the different light. Despite saying before that I liked it as it was, I've changed my mind.

@lucysmam have you solved the chain problem? Fingers crossed it was 3rd time lucky. So infuriating when you just can't solve the issue.

I've got so many hooks it's almost embarrassing. Some cheap aluminium ones, some fake clover amour and loads with beautiful handmade fimo handles. I'd love to say I made them but I didn't. Although I used to love fimo so I won't say never Grin

I ended up in counting corner earlier. Turns out my mistake was 4 rows previous Angry

lazylinguist · 06/03/2021 19:40

@lazylinguist good luck with application. I've got one for teaching I'm currently writing.

Good luck to you too!

@CrochetBug - I teach languages (French, German and Spanish). I've only recently learned Spanish and don't have any qualifications in it (I was supposed to be sitting an A Level last summer, but obviously it was cancelled and then cancelled again this summer!) and tye job is for French and Spanish, so they might not think I'm qualified enough in it. Depends what the competition is like! Plus I'm oldest and expensive. Grin

Btw I'm sure to be in counting corner soon too - I'm starting a bobble row in my extended CAL and I always manage to go wrong on those, for some reason!
