@CrochetBug I hope your walk helps (helped, maybe, by now) :)

I think I've cracked the fdc! But I have misplaced my pattern so can't check how many stitches I needed 🙄

I'm spoilt for choice for things to do now though...do I carry on the blanket, or the bear, or start the cardi Confused

silly me for ever thinking one WIP was enough! 🙈

CrochetBug · 05/03/2021 16:46

Thanks for the good wishes. The walk went well although I bumped into a friend so am now waiting for the inevitable "omg... you were with a man!!! Who is he?nudge nudge wink wink" messages. Hmm Still, I actually left the house and the sky didn't fall in!

@lucysmam 1WIP is never enough! Although I think I only have 5 atm and one of those should be finished today.

No strike that. I also have about 3 half made amigurumi.

lazylinguist · 05/03/2021 16:56

Good to get some fresh air, @CrochetBug. Glad the sky didn't fall in! One of the benefits of having a large, energetic dog is that not leaving the house isn't really an option! Although it doesn't feel like a benefit when it's hammering with rain.

Additional benefit is that apparently ddog pulls me along a bit when I run. I somehow managed to beat my all time personal best for 5k today (even though I'm miles less fit than I was when I got that pb,and am only just getting back to running again). I was a bit gutted when dh said it was probably down to the dog,not me! Hmm Grin

@lazylinguist I tried the continental way as I watched a few videos and the maker did it that way. I can't do it it's so hard for me to control and too slow. Even though I am not the quickest at English style either.

spamm · 05/03/2021 17:37

I knit continental style. My grandma taught me to knit English style when I was very young and had chicken pox, to stop me scratching. And then in school in Switzerland, they made me change it completely and move over to continental style. I can do both, but I am much more comfortable with the continental style.

@lazylinguist I am in on the KAL - ordered my wool last night. I need to order an insert and zip next, but I have some time for that.

Are you all planning to do it on circular needles? I tend to use them for everything, but I have never tried to do cable knitting on circular needles. But I don't own any long straight 5mms, so I will probably give it a try.

@CrochetBug - well done on the walk. I go out every morning and i call it my fake commute, as I have been working from home since 12 March. It is so strange to go in the office the rare times that I have to.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 05/03/2021 17:40

@CrochetBug glad the walk helped some and the sky didn’t fall in.

@lazylinguist I’ve been grateful for the digs dragging me out but sticking to our local walks has taken its toll. It is a lot closer to being dragged out than something I’d enjoy. I’ve also not walked more than a few miles for so long now, my fitness is just appalling at the minute. Part of it is doing little walks with the puppy and part of it just being so bored of local walks. I’m itching to go for a walk at the coast as soon as we’re able to.

I’m still finishing my CAL. I’ve just started round 5 of the border but this blanket is so massive that’s it’s taking ages to do a single round. We’re decorating the living room at the moment, well DH is. Anyway, we have a large living room and he’s managed to do a final coat of primer on the under stairs cupboard, paint the under stairs cupboard, scrape the really crap paint from the walls, take out all the nails etc in the walls and pollyfilla them, scrub the walls with sugar soap, rinse them and remove the knackered skirting. He’s done all that and I’ve done rounds 3 and 4 of my border 😒

By the way, saying we have a large living room wasn’t meant to be a stealth boast! We have an old two up two down cottage, so the living room is the downstairs of the original house. This is the only house in our budget in that didn’t have hypodermic needles in the garden or a single boot print burnt in the far corner of the carpet (not near any access points)!

JPduck · 05/03/2021 18:04

Thanks @tizwozliz , I'll put putting that pattern on my to do list.😀

lazylinguist · 05/03/2021 18:29

Ok I've skimmed back through the end of the last thread to see who wanted to do the KAL. Let me know if I've missed anyone off the list! I think someone said they might do a crochet cushion cover alongside the KAL, but can't find who it was!

I think my mum is digging out yarn and needles to bring over on Sunday. If not I'm seeing her again on Tuesday so I'll be ready to start some time next week. Grin

QuiltedBear · 05/03/2021 18:54

Does anyone know if you can cancel/edit Wool Warehouse orders? I ordered some yarn earlier today for a new project, then realised that I was running low on yarn for my current WIP. I couldn’t see any way of cancelling the first order, so I had to make a new one. And then I just realised that I’d intended to get a different yarn for another new project as well! I’d really rather not pay a third delivery charge if possible - the three orders together sadly won’t qualify for free delivery but one fee is still better than three...

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 05/03/2021 19:06

You can't at the minute I'm afraid Quilted I think they would have used to do it but with Covid they're busy and understaffed and put a message up on social media a while ago saying they couldn't change orders after they'd been placed. There's some smaller sellers on eBay who offer free delivery though depending on what you're after that might be worth a look?

Glad you got out Crochet, I hope it's warmer where you are than here. We seem to be straight back into winter the last few days.

My DM and DGM taught me English style but I never really got any good at it and after I learned to crochet I tried knitting again and found a wierd continental flicking style that works for me and has stuck.

lucysmam · 05/03/2021 19:15

@QuiltedBear might your order be more than £15? Deramores were doing free delivery on orders over £15 if that might help (not sure if they still are though).

QuiltedBear · 05/03/2021 19:25

Ah, ok - thanks all! I shall chalk it up to experience and try to be more organised in future Smile

QuiltedBear · 05/03/2021 19:30

@lazylinguist - KAL sounds very enticing but I don’t think I should commit to yet another yarn purchase today! Blush

InTheNightWeWillWish · 05/03/2021 20:08

I played yarn chicken with round 5 of the CAL border... and I lost. This is a colour I was meant to be using in the border anyway but I don’t have enough to get round. Weirdly I put the same colour in for two choices I’ve still got 1.5 balls of that colour, despite being used twice.

Buntyforgirls · 05/03/2021 20:45

I am in for the -alternative- KAL.
I have chosen colours based on Attic 24s sweet pea CAL .
Can't wait to get started !

lucysmam · 05/03/2021 21:09

I've stumbled at the first hurdle on this cardi - I've done my 68 fdc, but there's no mention of a chain & turn before I do row 1. I'm guessing I just don't do it?

There's a chain 1 then turn at the end of each other row so it's made me question it Confused

CrochetBug · 05/03/2021 22:15

Id assume its a mistype tbh @lucysmam.

Nervousdave · 05/03/2021 22:26

Thank you!!

lucysmam · 05/03/2021 22:43

Thanks CrochetBug, I did wonder. Neither of the other sizes mention a turning chain until the end of row 2 either.

I'll go back to it tomorrow now & include the turning chains.

CrochetBug · 05/03/2021 22:45

Maybe there isn't meant to be one, but I'm not sure why not. Especially if they are on the other rows. If you've done it without and it works I'd leave it!

lucysmam · 05/03/2021 22:55

I think it's ok. Not that I have much experience of these things 🤷‍♀️ Maybe I'll message the creator of the pattern via Etsy before I go any further.

CrochetBug · 05/03/2021 23:07

Good idea. I've contacted the pattern creator a couple of times for things and they are always so helpful!

I'm onto the border of my shrug. I hate doing the edging, but it means it's nearly finished!
