To think I shouldn't be expected to go to BILs birthday dinner?!

ILs are celebrating BILs birthday at a rather nice restaurant. Under normal circumstances I would go. I'm not BILs biggest fan but I would always put on a smile and go as a family unit. However, I had a tooth extraction on Friday last week that had some complications. Long story short, its gotten infected and I have a face the size of a house. I can only see properly out of one eye, and the antibiotics I'm on are making me feel rotten. I'm in alot of pain and have no appetite. AIBU to think I shouldn't be expected to go to this family meal tonight? DH thinks I should still attend and is being quite stubborn about it.

No way! Your dh is a test fir making you go home. Stay home and dose up.

OutingMyDog Mon 24-Sep-18 17:49:20

I think it's fucking ridiculous to expect you to attend in those circumstances.

FFS sorry. Keypad problems blush

EthelThePiratesDaughter Mon 24-Sep-18 17:53:36

Fuck that for a game of soldiers. You're ill, you can't go.

CatboySpeed Mon 24-Sep-18 17:53:36

Seriously? Fuck that, stay at home. Of course you’re not being unreasonable. Your DH however....

Is your husband usually this insensitive and uncaring towards you? I’d ignore H and dose up on painkillers and enjoy a quiet evening in to myself. What exactly is your ‘d’h expecting you to do at a dinner where you can’t eat and are in pain?

I agree with @WorralLiberty. You should definitely jadfiewahnds

serbska Mon 24-Sep-18 17:55:49

Obviously you shouldn’t have to go!

MsHomeSlice Mon 24-Sep-18 17:56:08

i am guessing this means he's going to have to drive himself and not have a drink?

NailsNeedDoing Mon 24-Sep-18 17:57:06

Why does it matter to him so much? Is he hoping you'll drive so he can drink or something?

l0stmummy Mon 24-Sep-18 17:57:52

He thinks it would be rude as the tables already booked and we should show face hmm

MrsMozart Mon 24-Sep-18 17:58:22

Tell DH to naff off.

l0stmummy Mon 24-Sep-18 17:59:07

He isnt a drinker so I have no idea why he's being so stubborn

theworldistoosmall Mon 24-Sep-18 17:59:09

Are you normally told what to do and where to go? If you are then you have bigger problems than your current situation. But fuck that, no way would I go. If he wants to sulk, throw a tantrum or whatever, he would be told to grow the fuck up.

Sleepyandtired21 Mon 24-Sep-18 17:59:12

If he makes you go I think it’ll be v clear to the other people there that you aren’t at all well and shouldn’t really be there

MaggieMagpie357 Mon 24-Sep-18 17:59:48

You're ill! Would he still expect you to go along if you were puking your guts up? What a tosser. Stay home and feel better soon. Mouth infections are bloody horrible.

WhiteVixen Mon 24-Sep-18 18:00:02

Tell him to go and show his own face. You need to stay at home and rest.

Gazelda Mon 24-Sep-18 18:00:04

DH can still go.
But you should definitely not feel pressured to go. You're not well. You need a sofa, a blanket and some TV. Not a group of gawping family members watching you as you struggle to take even a sip of drink let alone eat any food with any dignity.

theworldistoosmall Mon 24-Sep-18 18:00:11

And so what if the table has been booked? That means nothing. Not like the seat has actually been paid for, and even then well shit happens.

HollowTalk Mon 24-Sep-18 18:00:44

There's nothing stopping him from going, is there? Was he hoping for a lift home? It's his family. You are ill. Don't leave the house. I hope you're better soon flowers

Chairs can easily be moved around it's not as if they will have prepaid like you do for a wedding. These things happen.
