AIBU?

To hate a much loved film with so much passion

I hate the fucking annoying, saccharine voiceover at the opening airport scene
I hate Emma Thompsons irritating character and hammy acting
I hate Hugh Grants insistence on playing himself
I hate how we're supposed to find Martines character so salt of the earth and endearing- shes fucking annoying
I hate the Liam Neeson storyline and his weird relationship with his weird woolly haired kid who should be getting a life
Im left unmoved by Laura Linney
I absolutely cannt stand Keira Knightleys faux coy girlish smile and that entire weird stalker relationship
I can just about stomach Mr Darcy and his Portuguese squeeze...JUST ABOUT
Bill Nighy - once you've seen the song performed once you're like...whatever...zzzzzz

I find the whole film absolutely sick making and toe curling and yet every Christmas DM forces us to watch it.

AIBU?

I hate it too. Yanbu and I love Colin Firth but even he can't redeem this movie!

What film is this? confused

It's utter bilge only 'much loved' by those with dire taste in films and/or a lobotomy.

Love Actually? Never seen it myself.

I think the idea of all the interlinking stories is clever. Sadly, I think they had to cut so much out to make it a sensible length that you lose that.

It is quite Christmassy to have on in the background whilst wrapping presents or writing cards or something, but I don't think I'd actively watch it.

Thanks, liz. OP, it sounds rank! YANBU. I can't stand the Shawshank Redemption: mawkish trash, don't know why everyone loves it. Ditto that Christmas one, "It's a Wonderful Life." Apparently, I have no heart.

What would you prefer to watch?

Oh.... I love that film.. I even had the piano music playing as I walked down the aisle on my wedding day. To be fair I do realise it's utter bilge.. but, I love the 'idea' of it. I love happy endings and cheese. I don't think I can handle 'real' life. In fact I've now banned myself from watching so much stuff on the TV (even the news) because a lot of stuff haunts and disturbs me far much more than it should.. do for me, cheesy and lame is the easiest sometimes for my health! I love good films too, but to me this is a perfect 'switch off' film that makes me smile (and cry!).

@StoatofDisarray
Well my mums other Xmas classic is sound of music which i can get onboard with despite the epic length.

My vote goes to the Snowmann personally.

If i refuse to watch Love Actually she turns to me with brimming eyes and says "but...its Christmas..."

I knew which film this was before I opened the thread, YANBU. It's tripe.

Can I nominate Titanic please? Really loathe that film, dont like "oh I'm just a normal girl, me" Kate Winslet, and the year they showed it as the big movie on Christmas Day I got right uppity!

YABVU and do not belong in civilised society. It's my favourite film of all time, uplifting, fun and makes you feel all warm and fuzzy

I LOVE IT!!! And I don't care who thinks I've had a lobotomy or whatever. It's not Christmas if I don't watch it more than once. That and Home Alone Grin

I opened the thread hoping it would be about Love Actually because I loathe and detest it too.
'I look quite pretty,' simpers Keira. Aaaarrrrggggghhh!

Never seen it. Not avoided it, just never seen it.

However, it's now moving into the territory of an 'Actively Avoid This For As Long As Poss. To See If I Can Be The Last Person Who Hasn't Seen It' Film Grin I'm doing the same with Sound of Music.

(does anyone else do this?)

I've found my people! I've always hated this film. Plus Keira knightly looks so painfully thin I can't actually believe she'd eat that banoffie pie.

@birchandrowan yes and take off tje fucking faux hipster paperboy cap ypu twat Keira!!!!!!! URGH!
Oh and Martin Freeman and his porn girlfriend - like haha we're in english and awkward isnt that funny. Errr, no, just boring.

There's only one part of the entire film i enjoy and it lasts 5 seconds. When the guy says "but i have a cute British accent" and his mate says "no you dont, Colin"

I can watch and enjoy just about any movie with a Christmas theme. Love Actually is unforgivably twee nonsense but I still love it.

Though it's not a patch on The Holy Christmas Trio: Home Alone, Muppet Christmas Carol, and the SUBLIME It's A Wonderful Life.

@Laiste YABU sound of music rocks.

Anyone agree?

I adore the part where the baronness is looking gorgeous in the terrace and says to the man: "never mind...i shall pack my little bag...and return to vienna tonight" with her eyes shinmering

I felt a bit like this the other night after finishing Dr Foster after everyone had raved about the 'edge of the seat tension' etc etc....

My choice of Christmas film is Home Alone. Never fails to make me belly laugh!
